  1. Michael has zero chance of being taken in the rule 5. And if by some miracle he was it would be a non factor. He's more suspect than prospect
  2. I agree. He isnt a star but he's a cost controlled proven MLB starter at a position where there aren't many good players. Supply and demand would dictate he has value.
  3. Actually as a 3 time batting champ his expected downfall due to catching wasn't anything like what has happened. And yes most people knew he wouldn't catch the whole contract but maybe only the last couple years. The biggest factor in the contract was that he got bad concussions. That's it. Sometimes it's just not any body's fault.
  4. At this point I would hang onto Hicks until Buxton is ready. I'm hopeful that we will have better corner outfield choices meaning Hicks eventual best use is a trade chip as a centerfielder
  5. People have to remember that he was the best catcher in the game and maybe headed to HOF. It was a proper deal for that scenario. It wasn't reasonable to think he would fall off such a steep cliff
  6. He's not ready to hit major league pitching. That's fine - he's 21 and just needs some time. He's gonna be great but most likely when he's 23 or later.
  7. Just a note of clarification. They couldn't send him down without subjecting him to waivers. TD posters want to blame everyone under the sun for critical losses but if Santana had not been suspended, the Twins likely are several wins ahead.
  8. Huh? Actually probably the best thing for his development. He's 21, let's give the kid a chance to breathe.
  9. After he spit the bit the time before. Every other start isn't going to cut it.
  10. I love Duffy. His whole attitude is give me the ball. Gets behind in the count - give me the ball. Runners on-give me the ball. He's looking at the Catcher or checking the runner, that's it. Gibson and Pelfrey are wondering around, looking around, rubbing up the ball, letting out a big sigh. It's like they are afraid.
  11. I thought Perk looked sharp last night. Even the single was off the trademark and then he dominated. Let's hope he's back.
  12. I also agree that a lack of change up doesn't bode well for long term starting success and may make him better suited for the bullpen. However, the fact that he has about 3 different curveballs (speed wise) mitigates that to a certain degree. I think the Twins deserve some credit for recognizing that he could be an effective starter.
  13. I was going to start a new thread for this thought because it comes up frequently, but here goes. I don't think there is a logjam with regards to the pitching staff in 2016. With either a 12 or 13 man staff, you really need 15 good pitchers to make it through a season. I don't see 15 "good" pitchers out there right now on the Twins 40 man. No doubt we have more than 5 guys that have been starters but I don't think anybody should be hung up on that. Some guys go to the pen - we need the help. That's why I wouldn't care that much if Nolasco is not moved this off-season. If he would be one of our 15 best pitchers next year than getting rid of him actually weakens the staff. Certainly, he is a waste of money but if payroll is not an issue, than who cares. I am happy that we have enough competent pitchers that we actually have to figure out the best way to use them. Far cry from Cole DeVries and Pedro Hernandez.
  14. This. Good old fashioned curve balls are not that common anymore and that is probably giving people some trouble. Plus, he throws three variations of his curve which increases the effectiveness. Though not as good, he pitches similarly to Kluber.
  15. Can't have too many prospects at SS. Along with catchers and starting pitchers, they are the best trade currency there is.
  16. I have to respectfully disagree. Counting on a small number of relatively unproven players without back up options is how you end up with black holes. All of the options you listed are still unproven: some less than others but others with no basis for counting on them for the big club next season. I see no reason not to sign a veteran outfielder so long as they know that the kids are going to get the first chance.
  17. Correct. But he is still figuring things out so its possible that he will continue to improve as a left handed hitter and make for a fine defense-first right fielder or a valuable trade chip as a CF.
  18. Listening to TR on the radio, I think they are going to let him DH for an extended period of time before they put him behind the plate. Still doesn't mean he couldn't get a September call up.
  19. I have been away from Twins Daily for about a week. While I generally enjoy the site, I had to take a break because, as the Twins stumbled out of the break, the negativity and vitriol seemed to spike. I found myself feeling crappy after reading all the negative comments, many of which are repeated over and over again. I am not judging anybody or complaining. I just think keeping this in perspective would increase the overall enjoyment of the site and our favorite 9.
  20. I'm guessing that the torches and pitchforks will be out shortly....... This doesn't do a bunch for me but I guess it all depends on what they gave up.
  21. Regarding all the Nolasco talk, he is on the DL. I'm not sure they can trade him and even if they can, who is going to trade for a guy that is out the rest of the year.
