    I like the idea of having someone with an analytics background focusing solely on pitching. Certainly would be the biggest bang for the buck.

    Pitching out of the pen also seemed to be the cause of his increased injury rate. The Twins need starters badly; try him there first.

    I think one of the great misunderstandings of fandom is the idea that all prospects are the same or should develop on a certain path. Each guy is unique and really have to be considered individually.

    There are no secrets to building a winning team. All teams try to pursue all avenues to improve. It all boils down to execution, making good decisions and some luck.

    I'm surprised how many people are fine with him playing ss considering how frustrated we have been with our overall defense. The Twins have to start playing guys at their best positions which is 2nd for Jorge.

    Let Vargas be the full time DH and play first when Joe's sits against lefties. That said I still think it is more likely that Vargas and Park don't turn out than both of them do turn out which seems to be what people are worried about.

    Maybe I'm Rip Van Winkle but didn't the Twins win the World Series in 87 and 91 with MacPhail in charge? Whatever he did I would take it all over again.

    The most likely reason for him and others is that he isn't good enough. The hardest jump of all is to the big leagues and many players are weeded at at this level.

    I get your point but it still happens and he's not great against lefties. That makes his optimal window pretty small.

    Part of the problem here is you can't have a bullpen full of guys that can only be successful if used a certain way. Baseball games and seasons don't work that way. He's not good enough to close or setup so he's gonna have to pitch more than one inning fairly frequently.

    I don't agree with the notion that you punt on 2017. With improvement in pitching they can be 500 which puts you in contention for a wild card. Additionally it is good for young players to win and have their expectations grow. So you only make moves that make you better next year and beyond. That means you trade Dozier for the best youngish mlb pitcher available. Sign a good defensive ss to a two year deal and we are better right away and beyond.

    The Twins have to start playing people at their best positions if the defense is ever going to improve. Polanco needs to play second base and let a real ss play short.

    Ervin is back. The rest need to fight for their jobs. It's also why Dozier needs to be traded for the best starter available. What a mess.

    I've tried to be fair to the local 9 over the last 5 years. To see Cabrera circle the bases because of complete lack of effort / basic competence is too much. Buxton should be sitting right now and Molly is obviously not the guy to teach this crew of dipsheets.

    I'm now of the belief the only way out of this mess is to deal Dozier for the best starter you can get. Then sign a defense first ss and your defense and pitching are dramatically improved. Esco stays an excellent utility guy.
