A Perfect Free Agent Exists for the Twins
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You give a team 5 middle-of-the road starters and a slightly above average pen plus an above average offense you will have a fun team to watch and probably ateam that could compete at least for a wild card. Besides that, it seems likely the new CBO will expand the number of teams making the playoffs. Once there, it becomes whoever gets hot. After this season, I'd be happy to see fun games to watch again. Provided we get to see them play again this season.- 61 replies

A Perfect Free Agent Exists for the Twins
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree completely. Thats why its so important to develop pitchers from within. Hopefully, with the number of young guns coming up there will be 2 or 3 more guys that can fill out the rotation for years to come as more develop.- 61 replies

The Twins Probably Need an Outfielder. What's Available?
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Unless something in the CBO changes, there is nothing that says they have to spend it. -
They may have been tarred a feathered if they didn't sign Buxton and only signed Bundy.

I am old enough to have seen Tony O play out his entire career, and he was great. He could hit for power, average, was clutch, and before the knee injury could run. In the field he was also great. Good range, would get great jumps, I honestly don't remember him ever just dropping a ball, and he had a cannon of an arm. There is a reason he is in the Twins Hall, and because he is such a nice guy. Tony O, You are loved by so many in Twins territory!!

I really don't see a team willing to trade a quality MLB caliber starter straight up for Lewis at this time. He could be part of a package but even then there are probably only a few teams that would consider a trade. All the other teams know the Twins roster situation which would drive the price tag even higher for a quality pitcher. Unless there is a team with a serious need for an athletic unproven injury prone player with as of yet no real position, that has a pithing surplus (how many teams have that) The price would be quite high IMO.

Twins Future Position Analysis: First Base

I wonder how JD would feel about that. I like the idea though. Maybe some sort of a rotation of him and Sano to keep JD off his legs more?- 18 replies

Injuries Set Up Twins Pitching Splurge
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with a short term deal with some sort of mutual options that could protect both the Twins and Rodon. But then if you MUST build a strong pen and sign a good ss.- 30 replies

I'm old enough to remember the last stoppage. It wasn't good. Baseball suffered. It lost alot of its more casual fans. Thats when it no longer became the "national past time" IMO. Yet here we are again. billionaires vs Millionaires, greed more important than common sense. Neither side willing to acknowledge that all this money they are fighting over is slowly pricing more people out of their ballparks. The public pays millions in taxes to build them wonderful diamonds to play on, yet many of those same taxpayers can't even afford 1 ticket to get in. Some can't even afford the cost of cable to watch their favorite teams on TV. Shame on both sides. Get back to the table and act like adults. Figure it out. Quit acting like you're going to go broke or starve. Players, you are lucky enough to get payed more than the average worker to play a game that you love. Owners, you invested the into a team now put up or shut up or sell. I have no opinion which side is right. Just that BOTH sides are wrong for not being able to work out an agreement! You are ruining the game I love!

3 Routes for the Twins After the Lockout
Karbo replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have to agree with Whitey that we can't really assume anything about payroll. Rodon would be nice but only on a sort term contract with mutual options, maybe something similar to what we signed Morris to back in 91, so both the team and player have options. We have to remember we have Maeda coming back at some point late next year or in 23, and a stable of promising youngsters that got stalled out due to covid. I think the trade route makes the most sense. Add Pineda, maybe 1more in that level of FA starter, but build up the pen. Pick up a GOOD defensive ss that can hit above the mendoza line and I think this team could be competitive. That being said, of course they will have to get back to playing good, fundamentally sound, baseball. Something they seem to have forgotten how to do under Rocco. -
Former Twins Cooperstown Case: AJ Pierzynski
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think He's better than one and done, but I don't see him getting in. Maybe some kind of spot in the Twins hall howvever? -
I agree that trading Lewis at this point would be down right foolish. I think he should probably start down at AA for a month or 2, then see where he's at. Maybe bump him up to AAA or if he's really going (and has had a good showing in the spring) jump straight to the bigs.

Building the Twins All-Time Dream Team - Part 2
Karbo replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with those above. Having watched the Twins since day 1, I guess I have a bit of a jaded view. It is very interesting the way you broke it down by salary. Can't wait to see part 3 for your bench players. With that being said, no all time greatest Twins team can be complete without Harmon, regardless of cost. Afterall, he was truly the heart and soul of this team for over a decade!- 10 replies

Tony Oliva, Jim Kaat Elected to the Hall of Fame
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As a young boy a group of us were playing a pick-up game and all of a sudden Mr. Kaat was standing there, glove in hand, giving us all little tips. An off day for the Twins I guess and he must have been driving by and saw a bunch of youngsters just having fun enjoying the game they all loved, and took an hour or 2 out of his day to teach us little things like the proper way to slide(feet first pop up style), glove down infield positioning, etc... That was back in the early to mid 60s, though I can't remember the exact year. He became my favorite Twin of all time. I'm so glad he finally got voted in. -
Ranking the Top-5 Remaining Free Agent Shortstops
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I completely agree that would put us in a better spot. Maybe he would accept 23 or above. I see the Tigers as being more aggressive than the Twins at this point. I really haven't followed the Rangers much. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Twins sign him. I just don't see history on our side.- 34 replies

Speaking of "spin rate", reports say his spin rate dropped off quite a bit after the crack down on foreign substances last year. -

Like I said, just guessing. Why? based on what some of the other players have signed for and the fact that this franchise at this time isn't structured in a way that looks to be in a win now mode.- 34 replies

CBA Musings (12/2): What’s Happening and What’s Next?

The NY, California, Chicago, and maybe Texas team owners would love that. They could pocket billions. Local broadcast fees would have to be a part revenue sharing then.- 18 replies

I doubt Story will accept that low of an AAV. I'm guessing it will take closer to 25 AAV or over to get him to sign here- 34 replies
