If I was in charge I would give Miranda a crash course in the OF while he is still in St.Paul. Let him work out there for a week or 2. That should be long enough to figure out if there is any chance of him picking it up. If so he could probably get up to the big club very quick, If not you have lost nothing.

Has Luis Arraez Earned a Starting Role?
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have to agree that he should probably be a semi regular DH. I would bat him 4th behind Buck. Polo, and Correa. He may not hit for power, but he would drive in runs IMHO. -
Once again, Rocco gets an F for bullpen management. Can't blame the loss on that, but really, why would anyone put a rookie in for his debut against that team, on a night like that? Rocco, you should be ashamed of yourself!

Jhoan Duran is What the Twins Have Always Needed
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would normally be real cautious after only 2 outings and 3IP but this kid looks to be the real deal. High velo with good control and movement, a couple of off speed pitches to mess with a hitters timing, wow, what a weapon. I can see why he would make a dominate starter at some point and why the FO would want to keep him in the pen to reduce the strain on his arm. I just look forward to watching him pitch!- 8 replies

Urshela Ushers in New Hope at Third Base
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are several other people gone besides Donaldson. I don't recall any complaints abouy the clubhouse atmosphere the year before last and JD was here then, but the team was winning. Losing brings out the worse in people. Especially when new people are brought in to help and fail so bad like a few of the pitchers did last year. That had to drive some of the guys crazy. It did me and I wasn't even there!- 30 replies

Pitch Framing - Real or Fake Measurement
Karbo commented on terrydactyls's blog entry in A Look Back
You make a valid point. It is much easier to be good at framing pitches if your pitchers live on the edges of the plate. Another thing that affects the "framing" is what strike zone the ump is calling. As we all have seen, some umps call wider zones (in and outside) and some call taller zones (high and lower). Of course, some umps are all over the place with their calls. A good catcher (and hitter) adapts as best he can to what the ump is calling that day. IMO that is why the ABS that they are trying in the minors would be a good thing. -
How Confident Are We in the Twins Relievers?
Karbo replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its still early everyone! Though I agree Duffy is not a shut down closer type reliever. As usual we see Rocco out of some sense of loyalty, admirable as it may be, going with a guy he was with from the past seasons in Duffy. He also had Duffy up in the 9th inning in game 1 in case we tied the score. I haven't seen Pagan pitch in the last couple of years so I don't know how he has regressed, but he was really good a few years ago. I have reservations about Cotton and his control. IMO we should be looking at Alcala and Duran to close out and end games. At least for now. See how the young guys handle the stress. They both seem to have the stuff and the swagger. why not give them a little rope at least until they're close to hanging themselves?- 20 replies

Prospect Retrospective: Jhoan Duran
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looked real good in his debut. Could be a dominant closer with that kind of stuff if he can be as good as he was in his 1st outing. -
Wow, you would think by reading some of these comments that Rogers could single handidly win us a championship. Last time I checked the normal roster size is 26. The normal number of games to be played is 162. Thats alot of starts for pitchers to make. In the pre-trade rotation we had 2 guys that had little to next to no experience in the majors as the starters. 1 other guy that has hardly pitched in the last 2 years, and 1 guy that IMO has pretty much stunk for all but 1 of the last few years. That leaves 1 starter that has any kind of proven track record, and the number of innings pitched for him doesn't impress me either. We needed at least another starter that has some experience in the majors. I hate to lose Rogers too, but IMO, it sure isn't as bad as some of the other readers feel it is. I'd be willing to bet, even with adding this starter, we will still be needing to call on our minor league depth a few times before this season is over!

5 Bold Twins Predictions for 2022
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have been encouraged watching Kepler hit in ST. He seems to be staying on the ball a bit longer going up the middle and even the other way a little more. If he can just learn there is a whole other field on the other side of 2nd base, teams will have to start pitching and playing him a little differently.- 17 replies

Are they thinking 6 man rotation at least to start the season? Obviously, at least to begin with it will be bullpen by committee. There are teams that make it work, and Rocco comes from that environment, so maybe?

How Long of Leash Will Chris Archer Get?
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I personally worry more about Bundy than Archer. Also. I am a bit concerned with the way Rocco handles the pen. Who does he use as "piggyback" options? I saw a bit of some of the young guys in ST on TV and some looked good, but some looked like they should be sent back to AA to find out how to throw strikes!- 39 replies

Maybe not excited, but he can still play decent outfield, and Garlic really has not been hitting much in ST yet. Just saying, for league minimum salary he could be worth a look.- 34 replies

Coulombe Makes Opening Day Roster, Godoy DFAd
Karbo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rumor has it the Twins (along with a few other teams) are waiting for Upton to clear waivers. Once he clears they are only on the hook for the minimum salary. He could choose which of the interested teams he wishes to join. I would think of him as an upgrade over either Garlick or Rooker.- 34 replies

I agree that the Tw ins could have matched that package. My only conclusion is they didn't want to part with that much for a 1 year "rental" knowing they had Maeda coming back next year and hopefully the prospects ready. Who knows, they may also feel Archer will be good to go now? I don't know, and I'm pretty sure this FO will never let us know why.

Twins 2022 Position Analysis: Starting Pitcher
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have high hopes for this season, but not really for this particular rotation. I worry the most about Bundy. With that said, I also agree that we need to start getting to some of the pitching pipeline this FO has developed. Covid set us back, and last year it seems that most had arm troubles or were hurt some other way. Its time to s#%t or get off the pot with some of these guys. This is the year we should find out a lot more about them. At least some of them.- 28 replies

Offseason Status Update: Is That It?
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The start of a baseball season. So many high hopes, and unanswered questions. Green grass and (hopefully) sunshine. The unofficial start of summer. My favorite time of the year. My wish is that our boys can at least stay competitive this season and at best win the series. There's a lot of room in between that would make this season very enjoyable to watch for me!- 32 replies

Ryan Jeffers Will Justify Front Office's Belief
Karbo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think He can hit better than he did last year. I'm of the opinion that last year was some kind of a fluke the way it started out and snowballed from there for so many guys. 2019 was like a career year for many and karma got us last year. At least thats my story and I'm sticking to it. I hope. There is so much talk about pitch framing, the ABS will negate that soon if all goes as expected. -
Yes I do believe Buxton is every bit as good as Trout, EXCEPT, he can't stay healthy. Some is not his fault. He was a bit of a late bloomer, but the last couple years his offense has come around. If he can stay in the lineup for 140-150 games I think he may very well be in the MVP race, and if he hits like he did last year, it may be no contest. Buxton's defense in CF is better than Trouts, so lets just see his bat and health catch up!

Who Could Still Make the 40 Man Roster?

If they want to keep Faria on 40 man how about dropping Cotton? I've only seen him pitch once but he wasn't very impressive in that outing.- 63 replies

Although he may be a future #1, I kind of wonder if they are working out a piggyback type of rotation for now and whoever is up behind him is on track to pitch that day also?
