  1. I agree that the coaching staff is bad. They brought in Hamilton to be a designated pinch runner yet they start him in the OF then pull him early, taking away your best pinch runner. So put a catcher in to P.R.? Watch him get picked off when he seems to be daydreaming? And what is up with Celestino? He should be one of the best (Quickest) base runners, but he seems to be choking under pressure. Then add in the fact the pen was stressed due to the 21 inning double header, and they pull Gray when he was pitching well, so Jax could pitch to the lower half of the lineup? Why not let Gray at least begin the inning and save a few more pitches from the pen! Who knows, maybe he gets thru the inning, maybe not, but IMO it would have been the wise move, and one a good manager would make.
  2. Next year could be a major problem at catcher due to the possibility of expanding the size of the bases. If they expand by 3 inches, that will mean a 4-1/2 inch difference from 1st to 2nd. Think about how close these SB attempts have been. IMO teams will run wild on Jeffers. If Sanchez wants to stay here on a much more reasonable deal he may be better for this team! On a side note, the Twins may be wise to find some more base stealers!
  3. It looked like he intended to stop. Hie arms were out and he had slowed as he rounded 3rd. I thought the talking too was more about slowing instead of going hard.
  4. Look no further than the minors. How many times do you see a pitcher in the minors go more than 5, much less into the 7th? I've heard them say they want the guys to go max effort for as long as they can. That is relief pitcher thinking, and its taught them from the lower levels on up. How is a guy ever going to prove himself or improve if he doesn't get a chance to push through? Jim Kaat said he was thankful that his 1st manager left him in so he could figure out how to get through the later innings. Bert Blyleven has talked about hitting a point of the game where the arm gets a little tired and learning how to work through that. Learning should be an on going thing from the minors on up. Injuries? Doesn't seem to me going easy on the arms is working out so well either. Could it be that the repetitive conditioning isn't there?
  5. Another loss on the coaching staff! The coach sending Celestino with 0 outs after he had slowed down? Terrible decision. Put the blame where it is deserved.
  6. probably depends on how he does. If he does well I don't see any reason to send him back. If he gets shelled they probably will.
  7. Another questionable decision to bring in Megill, The yanks had a string of righty's coming up, so why not bring in the guy that has pretty much dominated righty's this year in Farner?
  8. I call Cave Mr. Hustle. No one can say he isn't giving his all every time he steps on the field!
  9. I think Duran should be the closer next year. Lopez can setup or close if Duran needs an off day. It seems to me his groundball/strikeout style fits more as a setup than closer. This year using Duran as the "stopper" makes sense as there isn't anyone else. I feel Lopez is in closer mode the rest of the year now. Hopefully next year will have a little mor talent out there.
  10. No I don't think so. Just the lead was large enough that it no longer was a save situation, and he could be saved for another day.
  11. Really when you look at things, the replacement players that have been called on have done a pretty good job. That seems to me to be the biggest difference between the Twins and the Sox. Next year could be a pretty good year looking at who the starters should be, With Mahle added to Gray, Ryan, Maeda, and hopefully Paddack, it looks like a pretty good rotation. Move Ober to the pen, and maybe add in someone else to take the place of Pagan and even the pen looks strong. Now if the hitters can get a little more consistent, this could be a real good team.
  12. I like that idea! Probably makes too much sense to actually happen, but it sure would be interesting!
  13. I sure hope they win a very winnable division. If they don't its time for a new manager!
  14. I just keep seeing so many starters only going 4-5 innings. I can understand not pushing in the lower ranks, but IMO once they hit AA they should be pushed to go at least 6. Its no wonder the starters today rarely see the 7th inning. The game has changed, but is it for the better? Especially now that the league put restrictions on the number of relievers carried in the pen.
  15. IMO its time to give closer duty to Duran. Let Lopez be the "stopper" and Duran the closer. I would think with Lopez being a starter most of his career he could even be a 2 inning "stopper" to ease the burden of all the innings required with this starting staff.
  16. He sure looks good in the minors. Lets hope he gets a chance with the Twins next year! It will be a big spring for him, and with some of the players going in the Classic, he should get a chance to show whether or not he's ready.
  17. I agree completely! IMO a benching or two might wake up the squad. I see it all the time from all the teams. Guys just jogging down to 1st, or guys standing there watching how far it goes. IMO they should bust it until it's gone. Of course todays millionaire players are babied and coddeled so much that can never happen!
  18. The guy can flat out hit. Love his 2 strike approach. I don't think he really hurts us defensively, and he will improve there also. But my vote still goes to Tony O for best rookie!
  19. I don't know what to make of Balozivic. He has looked awful this year. Is there something physically wrong? Martin should just ignore all the talk about hitting for more power. Be the player he is. I'll take a guy that hits .300 with no power as long as he can play defense.
  20. IMO, Rocco's future hinges on the last month of the season. If they can win the division they will probably keep him. If they lose it, he should be gone. It's been a terrible few months that aren't really all his fault, but the way he has handled the pitching staff has been hard to watch. He continued to march out Pagan no matter how bad things went. He gets his mind bent on all the stats, and doesn't seem to have a feel for the game. A lot of the problem has to be laid at the feet of the FO also. I'm not going to blame much onj injuries, because truth be told, all teams are dealing with them. The fact that the Twins had some bats in the minors that were able to step up and help is huge. Unfortunately, the arms weren't as ready to do the same.
  21. Anyone to replace Beckham is a positive. I see his role as late inning replacement or designated ghost runner.
