  1. It would be interesting to see where the Twins rank in innings pitched per start.
  2. The bullpen as it is could be real strength if used properly. I fear Rocco won't use them properly. 8 guys to cover 4 innings per game, and sometimes more. I would say that this pen would be really good to great if we had a couple of our starters go 6 or 7 innings per start on a fairly regular basis. I know 3 times thru a lineup, blah blah blah. IMO they have to give guys a chance . Gray and now Mahle are good pitchers so give them a little confidence and let them go!
  3. To expect to use 4 relievers per game is foolish. That's how a bullpen gets burned out. A 1 or 2 slot pitcher should average around 6IP per start. There has to be games to let some guys have consecutive days off. The way Rocco manages they are averaging less than 5IP per start. The only way this is sustainable is to have a couple of good 2 inning relievers, which as things sit now I don't see.
  4. On paper this looks like a good deal. Now lets see how things go the rest of the year. Can Rocco manage this pen?
  5. This should be great addition for the rotation, as long as Rocco doesn't turn him into another 5 inning starter!
  6. I think Duran should be the main closer. IMO Lopez as top setup/backup closer.
  7. Not a big fan of Fulmer but probably better than without him. Probably a step up from Duffy though. SGL wasn't exactly lighting it up since getting promoted either. Now, can Rocco figure out how to use this new staff? Will he turn Mahle into a 5 inning starter like he did Gray?
  8. Needed another catcher for depth. Didn't have to give up a real prospect for him. I'll give the FO a C+ for this trade.
  9. Until Jeffers gets back (mid to late Sept.) Catcher is a black hole. The cost should be minimal. We have little to no depth at catcher. Getting a backup would mean we have more depth for next year too.
  10. Great way to start the day! Now please get another bullpen arm and maybe a backup catcher? Another starter would be nice also, but I don't see that happening.
  11. It is a sad state of affairs when Bundy is one of the top pitchers for us! And Pagan? Just shows how bad the pitching has gotten. You can't expect to win often when you give a much flawed staff to a manager that doesn't seem to know how to handle even a good staff! I thought a few years ago we brought in Falvey to build a decent staff.
  12. I agree with Aris. The biggest problem now is the fact that our top prospects seem to get hurt all the time. I do fault the FO for ignoring the bullpen in the off season, though I'm guessing they were planning on some of the prospects (now injured) to help out there. Then factor in the way Rocco handles his staff, and they should have known they would need more help in the pen!
  13. A couple of no name relievers would probably be enough to win the division IMO. At this point I think that's probably the best we can hope for.
  14. Sanchez looked pretty good. A little shaky with his control. Cotton looked good. I would have liked to see Sanchez try to come back out for the 6th. Rocco just keeps grinding down this pen.
  15. I agree. That's why I don't feel the need for a starter is the top priority. Reliever(s) should be the target IMO. They are usually less expensive as far as prospects go too. That's not to say we need to get too crazy and just try for a couple of setup types. We have our closer already.
  16. You have to have reliable relievers. The way Rocco handles starters a trade for Rodon just doesn't make sense unless they pick up relief help. Add in they need a catcher and where on the priority list does a trade for a starter (with no control for next year) fit in?
  17. I sure wouldn't trade a bunch of promising prospects for a starter at this time, unless they can get a couple of relievers. Rocco will just pull the starter too early and let the pen choke away the game.
  18. It's crunch time for the FO. I read these rumors about trading for a starter, but at this point I don't see that as making a big difference. Rocco will pull them too early and the bullpen will blow it for them. We need relief help more than starters IMO. Yet there is no talk about that in rumor mills.
  19. I thought A.J. was right on with his observations. Pulling Gray was another example of Rocco not properly handling a pitching staff. Gordon should have been on 3rd, and Miranda was smart. IMHO, Rocco needs to pull his head out of his a#@ and let the starters go until they are showing signs of tiring. Our pen is the weakest part of our team, yet he keeps piling on the innings. Another inning from Gray last night would have spared an outing for the pen. Its time to let these guys go as deep as they possibly can. If the Twins don't win the division it's probably time for a new manager. The only way I can see them winning it is the FO needs to step up and get at least 2 bullpen arms, and maybe chat with Rocco about how he handles the pitching staff.
  20. I also noticed him grimmacing after a swing in the 1st.
  21. Before the Correa deal I would have said never, but even now I have to say very, very, doubtful. I agree Rocco's handling of the pitching staff would greatly harm Ohtani anyways. I wonder if that could harm the chances of signing FA pitchers?
  22. Miranda looks like the real deal. It looks to me like we have some pretty good youngsters proving they can hit. Another is Larnach, hopefully he keeps hitting when he comes back. So 3 rookies making themselves valuable major leaguers. Now we need pitching, and lots of it!
