Totally agree!

I think you hit on something here and possibly deserving of a separate thread! Maybe it'll take something as simple as bringing in Hunter as a coach to be the "toxic buster" in the clubhouse. These guys have to shake it off and mentally start anew. They are better than there performance and someone needs to take the lead. Who will it be? Or is there really anyone there that can do it?

Generally, I agree with this plan. it assumes that these young prospects have things to work on that can best be done at the minor league level. Give them the daily work without the pressure to win to hone their craft. If I may share an analogy that gives the basis for my opinion. When my son went to college for structural engineering he had to take calculus, but didn't have a strong background in algebra from HS. He passed the course with a "c" but said he just didn't get it, so he took the course over. The light went on and he ended up on the deans list. His father, OTOH, majoring in math, had calculus in HS and aced his first 3 calc semesters in college but didn't really get it either. He didn't repeat any classes to "get it", instead continue on the path toward his major. All subsequent courses proved difficult and lacked the mastery needed to fully comprehend this discipline. So, if going down to "get it" under less stress results in a better chance of mastery than I'm all for it. The ages of these kids are not such that forces the sink or swim mantra.

First, you did say that in your first response. Secondly, and more important, I agree that whoever is put in place should have the freedom to retain or replace anyone. Usually, that is a given.
-
I'm sorry, but that is a bit extreme. You're saying everyone is failing their job and its best to start from scratch. That's like having an ignition problem so you just replace the whole motor. Wholesale cleansings are seldom done and usually only after extreme incompetence demonstrated by everyone involved. There is value to have subordinates who are skill and knowledgeable in their positions to stay to help the primary decision-makers (read GM). In the traditional business structure the decisions come from the top and often the underlings are overruled. Throwing everyone out would set any business back for a time. IMO not a good idea. Now replacing the top tier is a different story.
-
Thrylos, are you inferring that their should be a wholesale clean out to the FO?
-
Markus, I agree. I think outside influence is important to any organization. However, when does one become an insider vs outsider. For example, and I don't know their history with Twins, but have Goin and Stiel been here so long that they can no longer provide a fresher view to the Twins?
-
Why? It's called culture and the comfort of familiarity.
-
One of the best I've ever read and I can't argue with your conclusions. It is times like these that the view far away from the action actually does provide a clearer picture. Well done and I look forward to the next installment.

Also look forward to these monthly honors. And I really like giving the player some "official" TD recognition. Wasn't Curtiss drafted in the top 10 rounds? Seth, with his good pitch mix, do you think he'll stay as reliever? How close then does he become to a top prospect for the Twins. I personally think that he "could" become an outstanding closer with his pitches, if they really are as good as claimed.

Thanks Jokin for setting me straight. Steve, I'm soooooooooooo embarrassed. Yes, it was a very well written article. What makes me so mad is I saw your name before I opened it and still got it wrong. Sorry for the mistake. Please don't tell my wife I'm getting forgetful.

Thanks again Seth for these summaries. These write-ups help ease the pain. Won't quibble much, however, I would've tab Sam Clay as the Pitcher for the day.

Thanks for an interesting article. While the proof is in the pudding, it at least looks like our pending defense at catcher has the potential to improve with the backup candidates, and maybe add some offense. It's interesting that a couple of our "cast-offs" are in the mix for roster positions on two playoff caliber teams. I hope they make it.

It is indeed an exciting time. Can't wait the real games to begin. Because of a family commitment I'm headed to AZ Easter week. Hope to catch the Royals & Indians game on 3/23. Should be fun to do a little scouting. First spring training trip. Next year it's got to be FL and the Twins. After all it's #1 on my bucket list.

IIRC last year's bullpen consisted of more than Perkins, Jepson, and Fein.- 93 replies

Article: Position Battle: The Bullpen
brvama replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I totally agree with that. it seems to me we are at that point of transition to a newer bullpen. I'm excited to see what some of these prospects have and who might they be. All along I've been waiting to see the spring bloom in 2017. I just hope there aren't major screw ups in 2016 that derails or delays that end. BTW, I do appreciate your analysis and all the others that contribute to the Twins discussion.- 93 replies

Article: What To Make Of All These Prospect Lists
brvama replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Excellent Seth! I, too, really enjoy reading these lists and articles about the players. This really is the means for those of us that don't have access or time to do our own scouting and research to make our own lists. It's fun to read the different comments. And as you said it gives us an excitement of the future of Twins baseball. It feeds our interest. Thanks to you and the others how take the time and effort to share with the rest of us.- 16 replies

Article: Position Battle: The Bullpen
brvama replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
. First let me state I share your concern about these three and I agree going forward it's important to improve the backend of the pen to be competitive. Now here's my "however." I think you brought your biases to your conclusion before your analysis. Here's how I read your analysis. 2015 was a great 2nd half for Jepson and won't be repeated this year. Fein and Perkins (2nd half) had career lows and thus are doomed to have poor years in 2016. (Though you do chronicle Perks fading trend in the second half of the recent seasons.) My point is that I find it difficult to dismiss their performance in 2016 based on your analysis. IMO I would expect a regression toward their norm. Now, is that norm acceptable for 2016 and beyond is debatable.- 93 replies

Article: Position Battle: 4th & 5th Starters
brvama replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I find it encouraging that the Twins have talent knocking on the door, versus recent years where improvement went from poor to not as poor. Berrios and Duffy will be pitching in the majors this year and that is a significant improvement of what has been available in past years. Plus more coming. Just because of that talent level I have to believe that will force the issue of replacing SP of meh performance. However, for Berrios to come up he will need to be put on the 40 man roster and someone will have to be DFAd. (That shouldn't be much of a problem tho). But there is also no big hurry, IMO, May would be soon enough for me. There is still some sorting out to be done this year on the full team to set up a potential excellent roster. We may very well look back and see how these things will sort out on their own. And I can envision bigger battles coming in subsequent years. There will be plenty to to talk about too.- 101 replies

Article: Position Battle: 4th & 5th Starters
brvama replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally, I hope Nolasco WINS the job this spring and pitches well. That opens up trading him or someone else a better possibilty. It's a lot easier to sell car that's running than one that's not. Injuries happen and there will be openings. Even on other clubs for the likes of Nolasco, or others. I'm also not opposed to Duffy working on that third pitch in AAA to start. It would certainly give him a brighter future. Berrios will be up early this year, so I can wait a bit. I'm not that wired about it. It would be good to have them both coming north, but a month or so should not impact this team much for their WS run after this year.- 101 replies

Article: Position Battle: Catcher
brvama replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Suzuki provided the Twins with what they needed at the time - stability at the catcher position while some other areas were addressed. One can certainly argue that there may have been better options out there. He did, however, provide an excellent first year. After focus on other positions in the journey of improvement of the Twins roster, it is the catcher's turn for scrutiny. (Certainly some will argue the timing of this attention legitimately.) I don't feel cheated for the time he's been here (nor am I ecstated). And I totally agree with Doc's take. -
All solid nominees and can't really argue against any from the article or posts. My 2-cents has Jay, Steward, then Gonsalves as MiLB POY. I just think Jays stuff will translate into an excellent year. What more can I add on Polanco? He's in a difficult situation. I hope he forces their hand.
