  1. Thanks, Seth for another interesting article. Looking forward to the rest.
  2. I think the FO needs to stay the course for a while longer, no matter how awful that might be. We need to see if some can change their direction. And we need to see if the replacements can be at least replacements to be called up. That will take a few more games than just 7. I also believe that Ryan should be willing to cut bait, starting with the bullpen because there good options available there. Losing game 2 at Chicago was really disheartening. I also think that shuffling some of the younger sister down to straighten them out should be done. And finally, it is absolutely imperative that Molitor eliminate the horrible play we've witnessed so far. For example, Santana's boot against KC was inexcusable and led to a huge inning. There many other examples from the whole team. I can tolerate a lot more if they are playing good baseball. Let's see what a couple more weeks brings us. No improvement and I think changes begin or should, at least the obvious ones.
  3. It's almost funny how so many are getting worked up about the opening day roster. Like it or not, as Nelson stated in his article, there were very good reasons why this roster came about. And reading the comments it is quite obvious those just doesn't like the FO and the decisions or course they have made. But UNTIL that changes expect to see a similar process. BTW, I learned many years ago with Vikings, that life is much, much more than this game. So i gave them up, but still am a fan of the Twins, even in the bad years. My blood pressure is now completely normal. So let's relax a bit and let the season start.
  4. This roster is not all that surprising, IMO. It is also an improvement over LY opening day roster. Yes, CF and the pen have issues, but there are options almost ready to take over. There are many reasons why one is selected and others are not. We also don't know all the info on the individual players to say this one or that one should make it. Herrmann place is a result of Pinto's injury. CF is waiting for a bit more seasoning form players that had short or no seasons last year. For those who think several of the prospect should start the season with Twins should realize that very few rookies make it out of spring traing on most clubs. Exceptions are the truly top end prospects, positions of extreme weakness (see Hicks) or possibly in the pen. It's not the April roster that I am interested in, it's the May, Jun, and Jul roster.
  5. I'm optimistic also, for a much better season and to verify the Twins are turning the corner. Yes there are some holes, like the outfield especially CF, but the stopgaps in place have better alternatives on the way. I believe several of those get their chance this year. A personal observation. It seems there is plenty of optimism here. Some view this year as the beginning of change while others seem to hold theirs in the coming talent. The latter do however have a large level of pessimism that will take too long. I am still somewhat patient. We shall see next fall.
  6. As always, great analysis, Parker. I'm ok with a solid (plus) glove at second, especially with the offense provided. Hopefully he can cut the miscues and then maybe the metrics and eye test and can find commonality.
  7. Seth I mostly agree this is the team going north to start the season. Unless Nunez falters badly from here I think they use the final option on Herrmann and he's the first utility type called up. I also think that Thielbar could be on a bubble or short leash with the arms available in AAA. Hicks needs to maintain his production or he's going back to the Red Wings and they bring Robinson to start the season as a fourth OF or platoon with Schafer. Then it'll be a battle between him and Rosario to be the first up.
  8. Spring certainly does bring optimism with anticipation of new life. It is coming across in the reports (thanks ya'll) and in the comments. We've been waiting for a turn around and the way things appear it's close, maybe this year. Feels like we're in turn 2 looking for some passing lanes on the back stretch. It's a long season, but it's spring - hope is alive and well. Something that has been missing recently. I think I'll enjoy this year of Twins baseball!
  9. What do you mean "for fat 1st baseman with no footwork?" That was how they I was taught and it work for us and I never had a problem stretching. I never anticipated with either foot on the bag. Only after the ball was in the air did one of my feet touch the bag. Like I said they may do it different today.
  10. Vance, looks like he's got the correct foot on the bag or are you being sarcastic? Maybe things are different today. I was taught, if the ball is on the OF side of the bag tag with the left foot and use the right foot on the home plate side. You don't get your feet tangled up and you're in a better position to catch the ball. It's called footwork.
  11. Another good article. Like Paul, I didn't realize the number of OFers was that many. Plus, several cetainly were not considered bona fide OFers. You better be careful here, cuz you are starting to paint an optimistic picture. Seriously, I agree with your conclusions and see that the Twins are at the crux of a contending team. It would not be impossible to see this team contend into the fall or even make the playoffs. Unlikely yes, impossible no.
  12. Excellent read! I really didn't realize how weak the pen was. I think you did a great and objective job in this analysis. Hopefully TR saw the same thing and that was the reason he added a couple of these relievers. It certainly seems a fixable element. With the heat coming our pen could flip its ranking in the near future. Looking forward to parts 2&3.
  13. I also went with Dozier, just because he brings us a breath of hope and change coming. If Joe has a very good year, he'll be out there, especially on a nationally basis. Next year Sano and Vargas could very well be the face in the camera. Even that gets me excited.
  14. Great story Seth! I really don't remember him, but do have a faint recollection of the "Klaw." Am anticipating Part 2. I do enjoy ready about the history of the Twins and baseball, such as the top 25 GMs feature. One thing I didn't know was that the Mudhens were a Twins AAA team. Of course, my knowledge of the minor leagues was nil until I started reading you. Thank you. That might be interesting also - a trip through our minor league system.
  15. I also believe Rosario starts in AAA. While his return from his suspension was not at all stellar, one might overlook that, somewhat, given his previous years' performance on top of his elite performance in the AFL against top prospects. Given the logjam, puching him to AAA certainly could be justified.
  16. Someone with talent and potential of Meyers needs to be given every chance to pass or fail as a starter. I'd love to see him make the club out of ST, but if not, send him to AAA to be the first called up. I want him in a starters role, which means he needs to be stretched out. i know that Santana started in the bullpen, but IIRC he didn't have major control issues. Walks are not good coming from the bullpen. I think I could handle a few walks as a starter for a while given his potential. Walks from a reliever are a disaster for the club AND pitcher.
  17. Forgot about Dunn's ability to take walks. Dunn also struck out often. Still, I'd start him in AA, In this case I like pushing him to see if he continues with the power, which has been awesome. Regarding the walks, It would be interesting, as mentioned above, if Walker was taking more pitches last year and also how many of his strike outs were swinging. All that said, my main point is that there are other teams that may be intrigued by his power and with the potential logjam in the OF, he could be a good piece in a trade. But first, I'd want to challenge him at AA. It certainly could backfire, but there is also the option of sending him back to Ft Myers. Been done before. But I'd been starting him in FSL too.
  18. I agree with putting him in AA. Not everyone is an all-around hitter. I could see him, as is, as a potential Adam Dunn type player that actually offers some speed and a position. Let's see how he does with better competition. Walker, and others, could force some major roster decisions in the near future if they continue their path. That said, I'm sure someone would be willing to take the strike outs with that power if the Twins don't.
  19. Thank you. I too share your anger, if I may say that, on both topics. What's really frustrating is that is very difficult for me to understand the rationale in all this. Any change as you suggest will not cause any hardship on MLB. In fact, it will increase their reach. Looking at the "beautiful" map I'm struck as to how someone in El Paso will attend more Rangers/Astro games b/c of the blackout. Or anyone in Gulfport, MS going to the Braves, Or Billings, MT to Seattle, Or Rapid City to the Twins. You get the picture. Many are outside of the regional area of teams and still blackouted. That thinking discourages a building of the fan base. Stupid! I sure hope they change this before I die.
  20. Outside of Tony O, Tovar was my favorite player. He was a very valuable part of the Twins during that time. Certainly a different time. He deserves the Twins HOF before Mack or Gladden and even Mudcat. Hoping next year is the charm.
  21. I have to chuckle at some of the comments about who deserves to start and who doesn't. Not all, but there is a strong element here that goes strictly on personal favorites and uses selected bias to prove their case. I'd like to get some advise on the stock markets from those that "know" for sure that May and Meyer will perform well this year and Nolasco and Pelfrey will suck. The Twins better hire that clairvoyant. And to think that a strong ST performance guarantees regular season success is laughable. One word answer to that premise - Hicks. Everyone, including myself have favorites, but let's be realistic. We don't have a clue how the season will play put for any individual, nor can we evaluate ST performances as indicators. I'm just happy that we start ST with viable options vs. the fillers we've had recently. Also, as several have said, by the end of the season May and Meyer will have been on the mound in Target Field.
  22. Spot on Nick! As I've stated previously, May has to be the favorite for #5, with Meyer in AAA as the first call up. I'd send Milone down also as the second sp in line.
