  1. I would like to see a trade for someone like Clipper of the A's or the Marlins Cishek. Would be a great set up man for Perk and a backup closer, if needed. As someone mentioned elsewhere, that would create a tough duo for the last 6 outs. Duesing and Fien then can be used for the 7th inning. Then add a Tomkin/Achter/Duffy into the mix and I would be satisfied with those moves. As far as Berrios, I'm not in favor of bringing him up yet. While he's pitching well, he's not dominating to warrant a move up, especially with others available. I'd rather have him continue to refine his skills so he can be ready to enter the SP fray next spring. Also, adding him this year will likely not give the Twins that great of boost having him in the BP. I believe others are just as capable. His strength is as a SP. In addition, before I'd add him to the roster I'd want to be pretty sure that he can stick, before using an option this year. I'd also stick Escobar at SS, bring up Polanco for the bat and PT play, along with Arcia. Danny S needs to go down to get back on track for a Sep call up. Any trades for C or SS need to be future inspired trades. IMHO.
  2. I think the point of the article is to point out how surprising performances are so far, not as a prediction of the second half. Just a little bit of trivia. At the AS break, it's good to reflect and enjoy a good first half of baseball.
  3. Another name I think we might be overlooking is Brandon Peterson. I'm not sure if the Twins would promote him from AA but he has be absolutely dominate. It might be a year early for him, but he has out-performed many of the notable prospects.
  4. Excellent run down on internal candidates, Seth. Of the choices, I like AJ and Tomkin for different reasons: Achter b/c of his performance and Tomkin for the reasons you stated. Duffy is intriguing. With his background could be a good addition to the BP on a push to the post-season. Plus his upper 90's FB would play well. Can't ignore Rogers either. There will need to be some roster moves to get some of these up. My gut tells me that may be limited until Aug-Sep. We'll see.
  5. Good points Doc. I generally agree with quantity, except when there is that exceptional talent. In the case of Javier, the Twins apparently think as a SS he has a lot of potential for them. Back to the Future would be nice. Guess we'll have to wait for 5-6 years. That said, I'm ok with this signing.
  6. Certainly he has the background. What I don't know is how much exposure he's had with actual scouting of these players. It seems to me that it'd be next to impossible to cover the US plus the international market. And unless things have changed w/in the last year, rating the international prospects is a difficult process, mostly b/c of the lack of info available. I guess I put less importance on internatiional ratings as real valuable information, unlike US prospect ratings, at this time. That will change, but for now, I have to trust a teams individual scouting. And the Twins have done a fair to good job on this in the last few years.
  7. According to Phil Miller of the Trib, both Hicks and Hunter are out at least thru Sunday -Hicks with his elbow, meaning a likely DL and Hunter serving his suspension. Likely that was the final straw to promote Buxton. Despite the circumstances, Buxton is here and I really think others will follow when ready or needed. IMO things are a-changing. While somewhat surprised of call up now, like everyone else I'm excited.
  8. Very good article. I was interested in Ryan's comments about his decision making on the roster, etc. I also like the bit of fire regarding media's dismissal of the Twins success. Again good write!
  9. Can't really quibble with the order and am definitely in agreement with Hildeenberger as the top reliever. Great article, Seth, as usual. Trevor's story certainly captured my attention, thanks.
  10. Obviously the Twins think a lot of Max to put him on the 40 man roster last year. My question for Seth or anyone is: how will the Twins handle him the next 2 yrs? There seems to be a lot of talent in the OF here or close. Is Kepler worth hanging onto or packaging for other parts? BTW, I'd love to keep him.
  11. I remember when there was considerable doubt the Plouffe would amount to anything. Sometimes we forget that SS are generally the best athlete below pro-ball. Anyway I'm thrilled to death with his progress and sometimes think of him as a Gaetti (sp?) or Koskie. I do believe his maturity has helped greatly. As far as I'm concerned the only way he is removed from that position is if Sano forces it. Until then I'd stay with Plouffe.
  12. This is likely the same discussion the FO is having right now, but with all the inside information. I'm sure they evaluate, at least weekly, players performance and how they can improve the Twins and the player. That said, IMO, #2 is the best for now, with a short leash on May. There is nothing wrong with sending him back to work on any weaknesses under less pressure situation. Its done all the time and certainly should help his long term development, if there iare areas to improve. Likely all this will sort out in the wash of time.
  13. First, excellent article. Also some good comments with which I agree. Seems like there is a cautious, but hopeful, outlook by many, such as: Exactly. I especially agree with last half of that statement. This very well looks like the beginning of the new Twins. Aren't there yet, but I am seeing progress in the right direction. The first week several of us called for patience. We have since been rewarded with good baseball and excellent results. I am hoping that that we continue to see good baseball as this team transitions into the team that many of us are eagerly awaiting.
  14. It's really hard to know what is the psychic of someone like Meyer, but I do agree that he should get a test at the MLB level. It may not be boredom but it very well could be the need for a new challenge. Often people with good talent need the challenge to find that talent.
  15. Also to be considered is setting up next year. IF I were the GM and Buxton looked ready to compete at the MLB level, giving him some good experience prior to Sep would/should help him and the team in2016. I have to believe that is part of the equation. .
  16. The roster spot is the easy part. Likely the one he's replacing. The difficult part will be knowing when he's ready for MLB baseball. My heart wants him up quickly - my head says when he's ready to succeed. Still, I believe we'll see him before Sep.
  17. That is true, but I always root for those guys. Most of the time it's the intangibles for these players to achieve the ML. Trey could very well have those. Here's hoping. I also want to thank you for your articles and insight on players like Trey. I really enjoy coming here to read the contributions of all the posters on the different players. It's like we are in a "fantasy FO" reviewing all the players. It's fun!
  18. I'm wondering if Gibson isn't the one for a short stint in AAA?
  19. Very interesting family. What's your opinion of Trey's upside? Sounds like a future coach after playing days stop.
  20. Seth, that's exactly what I was thinking as I read this great story. Cam is a guy that we can forget about the age. Here's hoping for his success. It will be fun to follow him.
