  1. So, my fellow closet GM's, what do we do with Berrios' contract? Do we buy out his arbitration years with the hope (and prayer) that the contract will cover his post (free agent) arbitration years? And whom might be around as a starting rotation next year?
  2. "Over the past seven games, the Twins pitching staff as a whole has combined for a 1.98 ERA." Thank you for that stat-- and that includes one (or two?) stinkers by Pineda.
  3. Great summary! I'm hoping Larnach and Rooker heat up, but I wasn't expecting big-league contribution from them this year. How long is Pineda's leash? And who at AAA (or even AA) might be available to fill his rotation spot?
  4. Any thoughts on what's up / wrong with DeJong? Does he need to suffer a "strained right calf" to sort things out?
  5. Ted wrote: "The floor is a pretty good bat". I disagree. The floor is 2018. The floor is zero due to perpetual injuries. The floor is an out-of-shape unmotivated Sano.
  6. I hate to pour cold water on this but: A first place team playing another great team and it only draws 12,000 fans. This is what led to Cleveland's garage sale. When we (myself included) complain about cheap ownership, last night's attendance should be kept in mind.
  7. And we return to the frequent discussion of how to value prospects. Potential? Current performance? Nearness to the Bigs? Does one prefer a five-tool prospect in A or a three-tool (say, hit, power, field) in AAA? Does a team's "window" fit into it? Team needs?
  8. One hypothesis for the seeming contradiction. Perhaps, like me, viewers are more willing to "pile on" when the team loses, but, again like me, just wants to shut up when the Twins win a game against a great team by, say 1-0. Just as a hypothetical...
  9. "Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to Twins' October baseball. As you know, given the bizarre schedule plus snow, the Twins will be playing four games today and another six tomorrow. "
  10. Seth wrote: "Graterol was good. Duran was good. Balazovic was the most dominant" But the teams continue to lose.
  11. Hi Seth; I have questions as opposed to opinions: 1. You wrote: "The Twins wanted to call up Zack Littell last weekend but because the season was not yet ten days old, they were unable to." Might I ask why? Is it an IL thing? 2. "Following the game, he (DeYong)was returned to Rochester since he would be unable to pitch for the Twins for several days. Is this because he threw 46 pitches? 3. I know you are being thorough, but Adams 6.49 ERA, Duffy at 4.56, Guilmet at 9.27 doesn't instill confidence. Seth, do think any of these could actually add value to the Twins? 4. I'd love to hear your opinion on Magill and / or Reed. Are they an improvement? Finally, when the populous of earth decides to make me Emperor, I'll make you head of the Twins. What would you recommend about pitching? 4.
  12. Thoughts on the Miracles Box Score: https://www.milb.com/gameday/blue-jays-vs-miracle/2019/04/10/572771#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=572771 I posted an arrogant post a few weeks ago claiming that the '19 Miracles would become the '23 Twins. Well, as the box score attests, there are three pitchers with ERAs of zero. But the bad news is that the bats have been (Small Sample Size acknowledged), well, silent. Seven of the starting nine's batting averages: .167, .190, .185, .071, .133, .222, .077. Again, I acknowledge the small sample size. And, if one or two hitters had sub .200 batting averages I would be more patient. But I don't know what to make of SEVEN bad starts. And, small sample sizes should provide wide variance, but they should be symmetric. So, every .071 BA should be offset with an OPS of 2.000 (All Hail La Tortuga!).
  13. I am worried about starting pitching in general and (our) Gibson in particular. And as for the Indians being 7-3, they've played or will play the White Sox, Blue Jays, Royals and Tigers. In fact, their schedule looks incredibly soft until mid-May. I know this is factually untrue, but comparing schedules, it looks like the Indians always play KC, Detroit, White Sox and Orioles, while the Twins only play again Philly, Yankees and Houston.
  14. Hey Jimbo- "Berrios himself works hard as a sled dog". Only in Minnesota...
  15. Agree that there was a B lineup out there. It’s something I would expect to see if the team was playing 20 games ina row, but Monday is an off day. No excuse for not putting out the best lineup. Baldelli’s “fairness” makes it feel like he’s coaching little league. 44% of the lineup had averages below the Mendoza line.
  16. The only quibble I had was that Gibson wasn't on some kind of pitch count after his delayed spring training. They did it earlier in the week, pulling the starter after 4. And, tomorrow is a day off so the bullpen could have been used more. But, the box score line of the (albeit short) year so far has to be: W. Astudillo3B-LF 5 2 3 1 0 0 .667 .636 1.000 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Zero walks, zero K's. I'm not sure how many pitches he actually saw! But, even more importantly, the 3B-LF part.
  17. Hey Doc B- As Tyler Jay isn't taking up a 40-man spot, I don't think this is a last chance. The Twins can keep him around for as long as they want and hope their lottery ticket eventually pays off.
  18. Darn! The Twins have too many options at catchers. What a horrible problem. I agree that things will work themselves out and I would guess that Castro will be traded at the deadline.
  19. The most important name in this article? Stu Cliburn. The Twins will need a few starting pitchers in 2020. Let's hope Cliburn can mold at least two of them from this rotation. Aside from that, this will be a pretty decent IL replacement list.
  20. Ladies and Gentlemen-- may we introduce the 2023 Minnesota Twins! What a loaded lineup.
