  1. The first player I'd sell would be Dozier. I'd be more interested in keeping Santana. He's our best piece, but I think you keep him for that reason. I really like Ervin and can't imagine our pitching staff without him...can you imagine the carnage going into next year with Berrios, Gibson, Santiago, Hughes and Mejia? The Twins don't sign good free agent pitchers typically, so they'd likely try to convince us that this was OK and the nightmare would continue. Keep Santana. Trade Dozier and get someone to slot in behind Santana in the rotation.
  2. In 2012 we heard fans say "Don't worry, just wait a coupla years and we'll be good in 2014". In 2013 we said "Stockpile talent, it's 2015 or bust"! In 2014 we started working on our "2016 World Championship" t-shirts...I don't like 2-year plans. When you plan for longer than 2 years down the road, there are just so many wildcard factors that come into play. Injuries, guys don't pan out, current players who are part of that plan leave in free agency, etc. It's kinda like life. The future doesn't exist, the past is just a memory. If you use the present to dwell on either one, you're wasting the only true reality you have. Enough of this "in 2 years we'll be good" crap. I just want the front office to make the best possible moves to make the Twins the best possible team as soon as possible. If that means trading Dozier for a guy who can pitch, that's fine. If we trade Santana for a guy who can make contact with 2-strikes, that's great. But don't give me some single-A prospect with a high upside who might show up in 5 years. Get someone that can help this team make actual progress - pronto. If the Twins sell, I want young players with at least a bit of MLB experience or those who are knocking on the door.
  3. Interesting. At least we got something for Hicks, I guess. Didn't we trade a backup catcher to AZ a couple years ago? I think they like our backup catchers. I'm more interested in "The Twins are fielding calls for Ervin Santana, Garcia (LOL?) and Brian Dozier"....are they about to blow this thing up after the wretched Dodgers series? As much as I hate to wave the white flag, maybe it's a good idea? I was solidly in the "BUY" camp last week but after the past week I'm thinking selling might be okay too. Oh goodness.
  4. I do not think we should assume Garver is going to provide a spark for this team. He has not proven himself and I do not think his presence on the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club will affect the team's place in the standings as much as you think it will. That is what I meant, and I think you probably knew that.
  5. Adrianza's batting like .280 or something. At this point he's looking like a fine choice for the everyday SS role. I feel bad for Polanco, he was so good at the start of the season. I admittedly thought he was the long-term answer and even thought he had a better future than guys like Kepler or perhaps even Buxton had he kept things up. Don't know what happened to him but it's been hard to watch. Escobar is a great utility guy but when he gets pressed into full-time duty for weeks on end he begins to struggle. Weird situation for sure. Great thoughts, good post. Same goes for the original post by Seth! Good stuff from everyone here.
  6. Garver seems like a good player, but I think it's too early to assume we're sitting on Barry Bonds down there in AAA. Byron Buxton was supposed to be Andrew McCutcheon, and it took him 2 years to start hitting MLB pitches. A guy like Garver isn't going to save this team nor do I think he'd have even a minor impact. Just my opinion....in your scenario, who does he replace and what role does he have on the team?
  7. I went to bed with the Twins up 5-1 last night and didn't feel very good about their chances. I'm sure many of you felt the same. What a gut punch for a team that seems to not be able to pull themselves off the mat right now. Another strikeout with a man on third and less than 2 outs in an important spot in the game. The theme of the series, happened in all 3 games. Nothing less than a sweep of the Padres and winning 2-out-of-3 in Oakland can save any hope of a wildcard berth at this point. The bungled Garcia trade is looking worse and worse every day. Can't wait for a win. Been way too long.
  8. Yes, Granite did come through there. Then Mauer walked to load them up again and Escobar grounded out. Just so many wasted opportunities to get crooked numbers. Dozier has been absolutely awful this series at the plate. He struck out with the bases loaded and less-than-2-outs in both games.
  9. Let me be clear: I think Molitor should have been fired last year. I don't think he's a good manager. The only reason I can see Falvine keeping him on is if the team makes the playoffs. Even if this team finishes a couple games above .500 he should go, IMO.
  10. Another lineup gaffe for Molitor. If this team doesn't make the playoffs, he's gotta be gone. How many bases-loaded pop-outs and strikeouts last night? Twins have been squandering opportunities by the boatload recently. For example, Polanco walks and Castro singles. Two on, nobody out! Gotta score here. But Berrios can't get the bunt down (strikes out) and Dozier strikes out. On Monday night Kepler pinch hit with the bases loaded and one out, and struk out. I watched the first few innings and was really put off watching Maeda. Gotta be the slowest worker in the game. A minute between pitches is absolutely unacceptable. Down 4.5 games now. Under .500. Twins need to go on a serious run, pronto. We're talking winning 8-out-of-10. Maybe that'll start tonight? Go Santana!
  11. Brutal loss. Eddie Rosario had this team on his on his back the whole game, props to a great performance there. I believe Grossman was safe at home on that challenge. Great slide. That extra run would have been huge...did the catcher's glove string tag Grossman? I don't get the reasoning behind the out call there. Nice outfield assist by Grossman too, whudathunk it. Colon. No mas, por favor. I'd rather have Gibby in there. Seems like demoting Gibby after his best outing of the year was a little harsh. The guy's getting hot, I don't like that corresponding move. Buxton's back tonight. Giddyap. Mauer got a hit and walked off the lefty. Maybe Molitor should start playing him more since - ya know - the games are becoming very important. Back to .500 and possibly heading under. KC and Cleveland both hot, and starting to separate. With every loss the Twins' "big trade" looks more and more like it came a week too late.
  12. I am very happy about this trade! I am very worried that Hector "The Looming Spector" Santiago will sneak back in and spoil the party. What are we going to do about that guy? Seems like stashing him on the DL long-term would be a good idea. And heck, maybe we can outright the guy to AAA and just let someone else claim him. Anyone know what the Twins can do with Hector the ERA Collector?
  13. What's been worrying me is that everyone seems to have forgotten about Hector "The Looming Spector" Santiago. He's almost off the DL. Are Hector and his dastardly deeds going to sneak into the rotation and sabotage the Twins chances? What will we do with this guy?
  14. That circus play (Kepler to Dozier to EMPTY SPACE to Mejia to EMPTY SPACE) was just awful. Escobar's homer was crushed. His defensive range isn't that great but his bat is necessary and he should be batting 2nd every day. He's played his way into the every day roster...doesn't he do that every year? Sano needs to stop trying to hit HRs and go back to hitting singles the other way. When he's in a strikeout funk it's really bad. Polanco has absolutely gone down in flames over the past 2 months. At this point he's looking at Adrianza and Escobar ahead of him on the depth chart. Good riddance, Breslow. Remember when the Twins were absolutely unbeatable on the road? They need to fall back on that trend, pronto. I'll be watching the games against LAD for sure. This series could be the make-or-break series for the season.
  15. I think the Braves leaked the rumor in order to get more irons in the fire for Garcia from other teams. "Alright everyone, we have a bid for Garcia! Going once, going twice...." Not too happy with the local reporting on what's been going on with this trade. All the Strib/PPress reporters jumped to tweet, retweet, and speculate on this trade. But now that it's off, they have gone quiet and almost pretending nothing ever happened.
  16. Kinda bummed. Would love to see the Twins pull a rabbit out of their hat and surprise us all with Sonny Gray! Abracadabra!
  17. I agree. If I were a betting man, I'd say this is dead in the water. Darn.
  18. Not so fast gang. Reports are that the deal may fall through. "The Braves are reportedly talking to other teams about Jaime Garcia; Twins deal not complete."
  19. Hughes, yes. He's done for the year and might even call it a career. As for Santiago, the Twins seem to have some bizarre fantasy that he's still got something left. I'd take Gibson in a heartbeat over Santiago in every capacity at this point (which says more about my feelings on Santiago than Gibson I might add).
  20. Furiously checking LEN III's twitter account this morning as well as mlbtraderumors.com - still no word as of 7:45am local on the Garcia deal. LEN III did tweet that the Twins are still 'monitoring' the Sonny Gray situation as well. What if we got Garcia AND Gray? Oh me oh my.
  21. Woohoo! This shows the Twins think the Central is winnable division and that they're interested in going for a playoff run. If you're complaining, go suck a lemon! Let's all enjoy this competitive move! Go Twins!
  22. The Twins are a half game out. They've been hanging in all season. They don't need much to hang in there, one would thing a solid acquisition along with another small deal would get them into the playoffs. Why would anyone want to sell? Twins fans have got to stop having such a low opinion of themselves and this team. Stop being a self-loathing Minnesotan and friggin' GO FOR IT! We can do this guys!
