  1. If you brought a white flag, we'll know you're a Twins fan!
  2. I feel Gibson's received a free pass for almost his entire Twins career because of guys like Mike Pelfrey, Kevin Correia, etc. Fans and management have been so desperate for a homegrown young pitcher to succeed, and Gibson was in the right place at the right time to have a career year in 2015. He's been extremely fortunate to be a member of the worst staff in baseball for the past 4 years. His shortcomings have been glossed over without criticism by management for years. Honestly, can you think of any other staff that would take him? He's the type of guy that might win 6-8 games per year in Korea or Japan. Maybe.
  3. Mauer's got some pretty good defense there at first base. He's made lots of plays on these short-hop throws from the infielders this year.
  4. I was thinking the same! I was scratching my head on how Grossman didn't advance, but before I could think about it, Rosie hit a blast! Way to pick up a teammate there. Now it's time for the 'pen to take care of the rest. Let's end this streak!
  5. True. But he also swings and misses at pitches right down the middle, so it evens out. I can't imagine how he avoids Rochester on Monday, at this point.
  6. 2 men on, nobody out. The Twins need just 1 run to tie it up. What are the odds they make it happen?
  7. Twins get a couple! 3-2! Time to PILE ON (I know, I know, who am I kidding). Still....C'mon gang!
  8. Yeah, I like that he's experimenting with lineups. Batting Polanco 4th, Kepler 3rd, etc. I think the on-field talent (or lackthereof) make his decisions look worse than they actually are. I don't like that Molitor has the personality of a box of Triscuits.
  9. I agree with you folks re: Falvey. This is his team now - he's supposed to be the next Theo Eptstein and we can't expect him to fix this train wreck over night. I'm MUCH happier that he's in charge right now. He's watching what's going on, and we'll see some interesting moves at the deadline. Ryan (who I do respect) was out of his depth with this mess. I think Molitor has to go for this team to make a turnaround. The Pohlads' insistence that Molitor stick around was a horrible handcuff for this new regime.
  10. Agreed. The pitching staff (warts and all) has been giving this team a chance to win every game. We know they're not going to keep this up. We expected lots of tinkering this year on this staff and we're likely to get our money's worth. But up until this point, it seems like it's the offense that's been getting lucky. Being handed 5-run first innings. Getting a pitcher to walk 6 guys in a row. Scoring on balks and errors, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it! But geez. I love Twins baseball but these last coupla years have been rough!
  11. We all want Bux to succeed, no question. And this really hurts. Like the first commenter said, there are hundreds of rookies and 2nd-year players out there...and every single one of them is outplaying Buxton. Every. Single. One. I think we'd all be okay right now if Bux was hitting .219. We'd at least be able to say "okay, it's still early". But aside from some pitchers, he's the worst hitter in baseball right now. By a long shot. He's getting to the point where he's setting records in futility, and I'm not sure how you can keep running him out there. I'm going to say it: time for Rochester. I know we all don't want to do that, but it's time, folks. It's okay to let a guy "find himself" if he has a map. Buxton's lost and at this point he's got to start over. Complete hitting rehab. 2017 is another lost season, I'm afraid. Let another outfielder come up and see what he can do. Why waste valuable development time for another player?
  12. Agreed. If Duffy's taken over 7th inning duties, Belisle/Pressley are there to handle the 8th, and Haley's the mop-up guy, then what is Tonkin's role? I can see keeping Breslow only because he's a veteran lefty, and they can often bring value in a mid-season trade. It might help to have a backup for Rogers in that role also, in case something happens to him.
  13. mazeville's right - Twins fans were absolutely promised much, much more than what we are seeing. I don't think we're being unreasonable to expect more. It would be one thing if Buxton was 2-for-30 at this point in the year. But he's 2-for-30 with 17 strikeouts. There's a difference between an 0-4 day and an 0-4 day with 4 K's.
  14. If you strike out 75% of the time you come to the plate, it doesn't matter how well you're fielding. You're out of a job and out of the league. I think all of our expectations are very, very low right now. What we're afraid of is that Buxton isn't worthy of wearing a uniform at this point.
  15. To understand the problem with "being patient" with Buxton, you just have to look at the game right now. Twins down 2-0, but are putting together a 1-out rally late in the game. They've got 2 men on and could string a couple hits together and win this thing. Problem is, Buxton's coming up soon. Do his teammates feel extra pressure when you're batting in front of an 8th grader? Probably. Do the Tigers know the 8th grader is a guaranteed K right now? Probably. This is a big problem, one that MLB teams don't have to face at this level of the game.
  16. This game reminds me of the beginning of last year, when a 2-0 deficit might as well have been 10-0.
  17. 1. Polanco is legit. He might be "The Guy" (see item #4) 2. Sano is the monster we thought he was 3. Starting pitching was great in the first week last year too. I'm encouraged, but still not convinced that Santiago, Hughes, Gibson, and whoever's in the 5-hole will keep this up. 4. Buxton isn't the next Mike Trout, and we'll be lucky if he's the next Otis Nixon. With guys like Kepler, Rosario, and Sano...why do we keep the spotlight on Buxton to be "The Guy"? Polanco is just 23 years old, same as Bux. His future looks brighter than Buxton's right now and he just might be our #3 hitter by the end of 2017. Maybe we should stop worrying about whether or not Buxton figures it out, and just enjoy watching Jorge Polanco make the All-Star team. 5. The Twins are 5-1. Hell yeah!
  18. I think many are frustrated right now because we know Twins pitching. And we know that having the worst batter on the team in the #3 spot will come back to haunt this team. Right now the Twins are giving up an out, right in the middle of the order. Every time Buxton's due up in an inning, the Twins have just 2 outs to work with instead of 3. Twins fans who watched this team lose 103 games last year aren't keen on that. And with the 4-0 start, most of us are waiting for the other shoe to drop....anxious and wringing our hands about the negatives. The commenter above makes a good point though. The bottom of the order has been getting on base, too. So no matter where Buxton hits in the lineup, he's going to be hitting with men on base and in pressure situations. The new Twins regime has dubbed 2017 the year that we get these guys experience. I think the Twins are going to just keep rolling Buxton out there, and they probably should. Buxton CAN hit the ball. It's all mental for this kid right now.
  19. With a 3-1 lead in the 8th, you can't take out Buxton due to his defensive value.
