  1. Still we have nothing to play for might as well give as many MLB starts to Gonsalves as possible, especially with Odorizzi struggling to pitch 5 innings per start with a 4.50ish ERA.
  2. At the same time it opens questions on speed of promotions for Gonsalves and Thorpe. Given the Twins aren’t even to compete this year why isn’t Gonsalves up with the Twins already? He has pitched well enough to be up by now and with Odorizzi’s struggles I think it’s time for some new blood in the rotation. As for Thorpe while his overall numbers might not seem exceptional his improvement should have been enough to at least promote him to Rochester by now. That’s what miffs me.
  3. I don’t get how Kohl Stewart got the call up when better pitchers where available. I mean to start with you have Fernando Romero, yes he has been up however he has preformed better in Rochester than Stewart. Stephen Gonsalves while just pitching last night has been a much better stats and has been better than Stewart for some time yet hasn’t even been in the conversation for a call up. And then there is Lewis Thorpe. Yes he is in AA but he is the hottest starter in the minors who is on the 40 man, and unlike Stewart has 130+ k’s in 108 innings, a normal 1.25 WHIP, and an opponents batting average against of .251, also Thorpe has to be near the end of his season with his 108 innings, my guess is Thorpe’s innings cap is around 120 innings so he probably has at best 2 starts left why not start him and since his rest might be short put him on a 60-70 pitch count. I’m just miffed the trio of better starters (Romero, Gonsalves, and Thorpe) were overlooked.
  4. Nice start for Tyler Wells. He has really impressed this year. It’s a pity Chattanooga’s offense couldn’t back him up. So granted this is a SSS but in 2 games (1 start) Wells owns a 0.90 ERA, and a 0.90 WHIP in Chattanooga along with 14 K’s in 10 innings. Add to that he has been healthy all year. I am liking Wells more and more...
  5. I wonder who’s next? Personally I kinda hope it is Ervin Santana. Not that I have anything against him, but with this obvious rebuild going on now would be the time to trade Santana and then call up Stephen Gonsalves and roll with Gonsalves for the rest of the year and see what we got (that is unless we trade Jake Odorizzi) in Gonsalves.
  6. With all the money coming off the books it would be wise to extend Berrios before he becomes too expensive to resign. I think an 8 yr $120 million contract ($15 mill per season). That would secure Berrios long term at a reasonable yearly rate.
  7. I really think it’s time to promote Thorpe to AAA. I mean for the most part of June, all of July, and into August Thorpe has pitched exceptionally well. I mean in his last 10 starts (thanks to milb.com) Thorpe has an ERA of 2.09, and his ERA in the second half of the season (again credit milb.com for the stats) is 1.99(!). Also to judge Thorpe’s improvement consider he now has more innings pitched than hits allowed, and has dropped around 100 points off his batting average against (he had an opponents batting average against over .350 earlier this season and now it is .251). I think now would be as good time as any to see what Thorpe can do (even if it is a start or two given his innings count this year) in AAA and start him in AAA next year.
  8. Well Romero, Gonsalves, and Littell should for sure be called up to the Twins. Rooker and Thorpe makes sense to be at least promoted to AAA given their recent stretches of good play. By doing that it could put Rooker and Thorpe in a better position to be called up to the Twins next year.
  9. Nice start for Mejia. I have to admit with the AAA and AA starting pitching talent waiting in the wings I kinda wrote off Mejia. However if he can have a solid season this year he’ll be a shoo-in as a part of next years rotation IMO.
  10. I would think if Royce keeps improving as he is he will be a September call-up in 2019 with the opportunity to win the starting SS position by 2020. I think Lewis starts the year in AA since he has proven to have mastered A+ ball. And I feel while he’ll have an adjustment period to deal with by mid July he’ll be promoted to Rochester and will do enough to warrent a “sneak peak” by September. Of course if he were to get injured that would set his timetable back some.
  11. Nice 1st appearance for Wells. If he keeps this up I think he might be a Corey Kluber or even Jake Arietta type of pitching prospect. It may seem crazy, but if Wells pitches good enough to get from AA to AAA by about mid season or so next year he could conceivably be a September call up next year. As for Enlow, I’m not too impressed. I certainly hope he improves his K rate as it looks a shade of Kohl Stewart as of now. I guess as of now Enlow is slightly overrated just as Stewart was when they were in A ball. Hopefully by next year Enlow can improve and improve his K numbers while pitching for Ft Myers.
  12. I don’t know. But Buxton has to dedicate himself in the off season to improve his hitting. I’m sure with a little help he could find someone who could work with him in the off season to improve his swing and help gain his confidence.
  13. Nice start for Jhoan Duran! 7 no hit innings with 8k’s and 1 walk, that’s pretty awesome. Hopefully he’ll develop well and be a bigger prospect for us in the coming years along with Graterol and Enlow.
  14. But if we see Gonsalves and Gordon take some lumps this year (like Romero and Littell have done) we could at least have some hope they will respond better in 2019.
  15. I could just be a pessimist but as of now I don’t even see how 2019 will be any better than this year. I mean it’s the feeling we will be worse on paper next year than we are this year. Of course a lot could (and should) change in the off season, but I feel it is harder to watch the team when on paper they look bad. Also if we are selling why hasn’t anyone of note from the minors been called up? Sure we have seen Romero, and Littell briefly but that’s about it. If the Twins want to give hope going forward how about bringing up others like Gonsalves, Gordon, and LaMonte Wade to at least give the fan base some buzz.
  16. Instead of starting Mejia why don’t we use him as a middle reliever and bring up Gonsalves. If we are selling there is no reason not to get Gonsalves’ feet wet in the majors (more so than as a September call up). I mean he has 2 straight starts with few walks and a higher strike/B.B. splits, plus opponents still are hitting under .200 against him. If we are giving up we might as well see our highly touted prospects in AA and AAA here now.
  17. Also in the Prospect summery Seth says Lewis Thorpe had 66 RBIs in last nights game. I think that too was a typo.
  18. At this point you can’t trade Gibson (I can’t believe I said that). He is finally coming into his own, and here’s the crazy thing he’s getting better results by using the pitches major league scouts raved about while he pitched in the minors. Gibson’s change in strategy (less sinkers, more breaking balls) are leading to Gibson being harder to hit off and upping his strike outs.
  19. Another great start for Thorpe! I have to wonder if it’s time to promote Thorpe to AAA? I mean if you look at some of the raw data it looks underwhelming, a 3.61 ERA, and giving up 98 hits in 97.1 innings (with 12 homers). But if you look past May, Thorpe’s numbers improve dramatically. His ERA in the month of July is 2.05, and his WHIP in his last 10 starts is 0.93. Something tells me it’s all coming together for Thorpe, and for the season thus far he has struck out 118 in 97.1 innings with only 25 walks. I think now might be a good time to move him up as it gets his feet wet in AAA and possibly makes him more available for our rotation next year (especially if May, Gonsalves, and Littell can’t hold down the 5th spot in the rotation next year). Bailey wasn’t pulled due to injury, right? I mean as of late he’s been one of the better surprises in our minor league system so it would stink if he got injured.
  20. Is there any cause for concern with Romero? His strike outs are down and he’s had 2 subpar starts in a row. He’s at 110 or so innings now so my concern is he’s breaking down just like last year.
  21. Plus I think Wells has a more potent pitching arsenal. Slegers if I am correct is more of a fastball/change up type of pitcher.
  22. It looks like Wells should be promoted to Chattanooga now. I mean unless he’s the minor leaguer the Twins are looking to trade sending him to Chattanooga now to end the year there would be smart as it gives him some time in the latter part of the minor league season to adjust to AA ball. I believe Wells could be a true diamond in the rough, a not so highly touted pitching prospect who becomes at least a solid pitcher in the bigs.
  23. Nice start for Gonsalves. I am though not sold on him. Unless he can consistently cut the number of walks down I don’t have a lot of hope for him as a starter. Of course I hope I am proven wrong but I just am not as excited about Gonsalves like I wa 2 yrs ago.
  24. I reading the article on Ober I get the sense he is really comparable to Tyler Wells. Both are 6’8”, have easy repeatable deliveries which leads to great control given their size, and have literally the same pitching arsenal with the same results.
