Not sold on Kirilloff, but Rortovedt was the guy I liked at 56 for a long time.

So BA has us taking Dakota Hudson (says we're also in on Dunn); Mayo and Callis both mocked Kirilloff to us; and KLaw has us taking Manning- really an outlier.

I'd make the counter argument that it's the Twins drafting- they have done really, really bad at second round picks over the past 15 years.

I think all of these guys would be fine- Except I'm not a big fan of Rutherford- he's already 19 and he developed physically earlier than his competition and has shown much of a year-over-year improvement.

My top 10: 1. Berrios 2. Kepler 3. Polanco 4. Jay 5. Gordon 6. Chargois 7. Gonsalves 8. LaMonte Wade (I love me some Wade, but this says more about the lack of faith I have in the players after #7 in the org) 8. Luis Arreaz 9. Kohl Stewart 10. Mitch Garver

Article: The Benefits Of Badness
d-mac replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Basic organizational economics says they should lower prices. The variable cost of putting additional butts in the seats is pretty small. Operating a sports stadium is almost entirely fixed cost. Plus with those additional butts in the seats there is the knock-on revenue of concessions and merchandise that won't be sold without people to buy them. In other words- since the number of seats at a stadium is fixed, the revenue maximizing point should be trying to sell as many seats as possible. -

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: The Board
d-mac replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Jeremy, Has Cal Quatrill been discussed as an option for the Twins? Also, have you heard anything related to catchers later in the draft? Okey, Rortvedt, Cumberland, Logan Ice, Will Smith, Jeremy Martinez? I also see on MLB Pipeline that Ulysses Cantu and Nick Quintana are viewed as possible options behind the plate. Have you heard anything on that front?- 20 replies

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: Alex Kirilloff
d-mac replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm kinda with the rest of you on him- I won't hate the pick, the Twins could do worse- he would not be my first choice, I just think his swing is too long and loopy, he's going to have contact issues. Not something the Twins need more of.- 14 replies

Article: Will The Real Eduardo Nunez Please Stand Up?
d-mac replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I haven't read all the comments yet, but I think Eduardo's true hitting ability is more like last year's. He has an .852 BABIP on liners (career .693) and .366 on grounders (career .288) this year. Plus more than doubled his career HR/FB ratio. That is despite not really changing the make-up of his balls-in-play profile, only a small increase in hard hit %, and the second lowest BB/K ratio of his career. The only slight change I see is that more of his line-drives and grounders are going to CF that had been previously pulled. But that doesn't explain the enough of the jump in BABIP nor the increase in HR/FB ratio. -

I'd still rather have Hudson. The knock on him was his control as an undergrad. But he has really cut his walks in the Cape Cod and during his junior season. The SEC is one of- if not the top college baseball conference, the MAC, not so much. So the competition he is facing is much better. Plus, Lauer has almost 2.5x as many walks in the Cape Cod league in 3 fewer innings than Hudson, plus nearly identical BB/9 during his junior season to Hudson while facing far inferior competition. The stats don't back the eye test here.- 20 replies

Are you his agent? A college bat with no defensive position that most mocks have going in the mid-20's. Sounds like we could get him for under slot at 15.- 20 replies

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: The Board
d-mac replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dunn is a reliever- IRC, one that wasn't regarded as a potential starter until this year- unlike Jay, who was always seen as a potential starter throughout his college career- plus his numbers are nowhere near dominate like Jay was in college. I typically don't like college players with late helium in a weak draft. I would not be as frustrated with Manning- I am just not a fan of taking prep arms in the first round that get by by blowing high schoolers away with high heat and haven't develop secondary pitches, player development will have to develop two additional pitches and teach him how to pitch. He's not going to be able to attack pro hitters the same way. I have my questions with the Twins' player development being able to do all that. It's just not a risk I see that's worth taking in the first round.- 20 replies

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: The Board
d-mac replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If it were up to me running the draft, I'd go Collins (give him a chance to stick behind the plate), or go under slot with Will Craig. The Twins need guys with good plate discipline with the ability to hit for average. There are very few of them in the system. As far as pitching goes- I like Garrett, Hudson, and Anderson in that order. If the Twins draft any pitcher other than those 3 I will be very disappointed- There just isn't enough upside in this draft to justify the risk of taking any other pitchers (assuming Puk, Groome, and Pint go in the top 10) in the 1st round. I'll be very angry if they take another reliever in the first round. I also don't like most of the top high school bats this year. I'd be ok with Kirilloff, I cold weather high school bats- but I just think Kirilloff's swing is too long and he'll have a hard time squaring up the high heat- A common issue with many of the Twins' hitters.- 20 replies

I didn't realize Anderson was only just promoted. i thought he went up in early may for some reason. However, for Chargois there is no excuse why he's not on the MLB roster. He's one of the best 7 relief arms in the org, and his numbers say he's ready. There shouldn't be anybody blocking him, we've all seen the bullpen's ERA.

I mean Chargois' FIP in AAA is 0.16 and has a WHIP of 0.90. How can the Twins justify him being in the minors over their current bullpen options?

The top three are filthy. Why Chargois and Theofanopoulos haven't been promoted is beyond me. Even Anderson should probably be in Chattanooga. Get these college relievers up quicker. Why waste their bullets on competition that is clearly no match for them?

Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview: Prep Arms
d-mac replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins are going to go high school pitcher- I think it should be Garrett or Anderson. I would not be happy with anybody else on this list. If they aren't available when the Twins pick I'd go bat- prep or college (unless if Hudson is available). I'm not a fan of taking pitching in the first rounds of weak drafts. Too much risk for limited upside.
