Great game by Garver, and great job by Odorizzi holding it together throwing to such a bum. I look forward to Magic Fingers Wilson being back in there tomorrow.
They have picked up 2.5 games on Cleveland this series. The lead is back to single digits. At a minimum, I don't expect any early trades. They would still have to be within 6-8 games by 7/31 to not sell. I felt 8-3 on this home stand was the minimum not to begin blowing things up at the ASB. So far so good.
The pitchers can suck it up. Berrios didn't exactly seem adversely effected yesterday. Besides, hopefully they can see that losing 3-2 games is in part because you send people up to bat who have zero chance of doing anything. The FO can make it clear by releasing him already.
The Garver thing is on Molitor but at some point it's also on Falvine. Much like Gardy with Punto, if your kid's diabetic, and you know they can't resist cake, but you keep buying cake, at some point it's on you.
Sure. If someone calls and offers you a top 10 prospect from their system, fine. But that's unlikely. Far more important to shop the 6-7 guys who aren't under team control for next year or have options we won't pick up.
We can't trade everyone. We already have 6 or more tradeable pieces. How much less will he be worth 1 year from now. Keep him and look towards 2019. Not dump everyone and look towards 2021. If we trade everyone people suggest we'd be dumping 7 or 8 guys, getting 12 + prospects back in return and then having to release guys in the minors we might still like.
When is the last time a Twins catcher started a day game after a night game? Was Garver hurt? Running Wilson out there day after day is so ridiculous. Continuing to put out line-ups with Wilson, Grossman, etc. in the lineup when there are better alternatives is like a giant middle finger to the fans who have to watch this offense.
Correct me if I'm wrong but his FA is based on service time not time on the 40 man roster. Yes, if they call him up now and he stays up the rest of the season they would lose a year. But Polanco is coming back. So using Gordon for 3 weeks or a month will not lose a year of control. It will just burn an option which should not be an issue.
Mackey and Judd were discussing the other day and basically said Buxton's struggles are in part because cares too much is over-thinking at the plate and Sano's because he doesn't care enough and just wants to weigh 300 pounds and spend his career swinging for the left field fences. I think that is the difference.
Put Reed on the DL. Something is broken, either mentally or physically. Hildy should be the 8th inning guy period. And get Grossman tf off this team already and get Wade or Gordon up here.
The offense is still putrid. Get Dozier tf out of the lead-off spot. On the all too frequent days Grossman plays, at least bat him lead-off. Try Adrianza there. Or get Gordon up here. I'm not sure what to do with Kepler. Maybe try him in the 2 spot. Get Dozier down to 5-6.
Eddie is the man. How is Reed's ERA only 3.03? He's given up HR's in his last 15 appearances. At least that's how it seems. Joe Vavra got bailed out on that brutal send of Adrianza in the 8th. The guy was fielding the ball about 20 yards away and you send him? And how do you not PH for Garver for Wilson afterwards?
Grossman is not a good 4th OF'er and his 2017 #'s .246/.721 are close to his career average. But I wouldn't call that a league average hitter. It's pretty obvious that 2016 was the aberration for Grossman, not 2018.
