  1. Strange not to PH for Kepler. Also, I know it's not typically done, but since we have 3 catchers, maybe put Castro in for the 9th given that Garver had just batted and Parker throws a splitter?
  2. Eew. I was about to mock y'all for over-reacting to a minor-league deal.
  3. Cutting $50 million off the payroll when the division is right there for the taking is shameful.
  4. It would be ironic if we got older twice in a row. Gardy will start looking like a young, fresh face.
  5. He was only going to catch one pitch. The batter agreed not to swing at it and they promised it would be a ball. He was never going to risk taking a foul ball of the mask.
  6. Someone remind me again of his "issues"? I don't see the Pohlad's signing off on that. If there's one thing the Twins have avoided the last 35 years, it's negative off-field issues for the most part.
  7. I'd say TK, but I'm pretty sure he'd take Falvey's analytics report and shove it somewhere inappropriate.
  8. Ah. That shows how vital his role was. I believe he was in charge of designing the new facility in Fort Meyers. He must have left when that was done.
  9. The last true player manager IIRC was Pete Rose. He was too busy gambling on the game to option himself. But seriously, Mauer has options left. However, I think that goes away after so many years. Su unless we are going to pay him $23 million, he'd have to clear waivers each time. And I think there are rules requiring you to report. If you were really going to game it, you'd just DL him with some injury each time he wasn't going to play for awhile.
  10. The Twins are the king of offering people they fire another role. Bill Smith is the only one I know who took it. I think he might even still be in that role?
  11. Thanks for a great career Joe. It's been fun following you since high school. We'll never see another career quite like it again.
  12. You're not going to get anything great for him. How many lottery tickets do we need? I would rather evaluate if he's a fall-back option for 2019. He certainly loves hitting at Target Field for some reason.
  13. Hildy is cooked. I guess it's Reed, May or Rogers until Matty B. returns.
  14. Paul Molitor frantically looks at a calendar to see when new closer Matt Belisle is eligible to return from the DL.
  15. I like Hildy, but he's been broken for a while now. DL him already. Reed or someone else should have been used there.
  16. If they need his veteran presence that bad, he can be the #3 bullpen assistant.
  17. Call up Austin. Between him and Adrianza they can get by. Grossman's a disaster in the OF anyway.
  18. Gross mismanagement by Molitor when Grossman went out. How do you not put Mauer in there instead of Morrison? Cost them 2 outs in the 8th. Or give up the DH and put Kepler in RF. Or both.
  19. Regarding being "in" it, Cleveland does not impress me, so anything is possible. But you also have to factor in the bigger picture. They had zero chance of advancing against NYY/Bos/Hou if they did make it. Zero. That's not normally the case in MLB play-offs, but it would have been this year. Also, I'm not sure how much they actually hurt themselves. Escobar was replaced by Sano. Lynn by Santana. Pressly by May. Duke by Moya. Dozier is the only spot that really stings. If they somehow end up finishing within 4 games of Cleveland, we can wonder what might have been. But we didn't just make ourselves 10 games worse.
  20. I saw someone on Twitter alleging that "sources" told him Mauer is going to retire. No idea if it has any validity. But it's possible he told the Twins this already and that played into who they targeted the last two days.
  21. But then where would Grossman fit in? We simply must keep him around....
  22. This is such lame logic. The Astros will be good for a long time. The Yankees and Red Sox will always be good. By this logic, we should trade everyone a curl up in a ball in the fetal position.
