  1. At the end of the day I’d rather have a player who outperforms their advanced stats in a positive way than the inverse. I’m still haunted by Ricky Nolasco’s low FIP numbers as he tossed beach balls to batters.
  2. I guess we're going to find out if bringing essentially the same team back is enough to overcome the 18 game postseason losing streak.
  3. I’ve been curious what they will do in regards to years of control in the next CBA. Will they would grandfather players already in this broken system? I wholeheartedly agree there will be a complete overhaul of the system we know right now. We’ve had years of data showing that GMs no longer want to pay older players, so we need to create a new system to get money to players earlier in their career. If the players will be grandfathered in, wouldn’t it make sense to call up every player you’d like to have 6, wink wink, nearly 7 full seasons of control over?
  4. Worthwhile to add here. To add further context, he’s doing a top 20 Twins prospects list running the week of 2/8 and will go into greater detail about Larnach.
  5. "Further, both Royce Lewis and all of Minnesota Twins Territory all know that the shortstop position will be Royce’s for the taking for 2022 and beyond and there should be no shortstop controversy this time next winter." Jorge Polanco says hello. Who has said Lewis is better defensively than Polanco at SS?
  6. I’m not surprised Lewis is this low. KLaw for the last couple of seasons doesn’t think Lewis will stick at short, and he’s been vocal about his leg kick/bad mechanics not working out at the higher levels.
  7. K Law thinks it's Kirilloff. He's ranked #7 in his top 100 prospect rankings. https://theathletic.com/2338178/2021/01/28/keith-law-top-100-prospects-2021/
  8. Join my Robinhood group with my link and we both get a free stock!!1!1
  9. Big HOF, small HOF, I don’t care. The voting process is a way for sports writers to put themselves on a pedestal and think they’re doing important work. Look at Tom Verducci. Dude literally made a promo video like he was signing a peace treaty for the world.
  10. GameStop opens today at $352. What the actual F is going on? AMC had an interesting day yesterday too... Hoovering around $5 a share then jumping up to $20 for some apparent reason.
  11. Yep, that’s what hurts the most in hindsight. Ramos always felt like a trade piece to acquire that mythical ace to push them over the top in the playoffs.
  12. I read Gleeman's article on the Athletic, where he mentioned Happ changed his pitch mix in 2020 to throw more sliders and generated good results. 18.7% of his pitches were sliders, generating a whiff on 31.7% of swings, along with the best spin rate (2,260 RPM) and most horizontal movement (2.5 inches) of his career. Sounds like a Wes Johnson special to me. Let's hope this works out as well as the Rich Hill signing last year. https://theathletic.com/2335396/2021/01/21/j-a-happ-twins-free-agency-needs/
  13. I had my hopes set on signing Kluber for his upside. I have no interest in anyone else on the list. Might as well bring back Odorizzi now.
  14. It’s possible that there’s a bidding war for his services. I doubt anyone is going to back up the Brinks truck and dump out obscene money for multiple years. The Twins have as good of a chance as any to win an incentive-laden one year contract bid. I’m more interested in Kluber now that he’s hitting upper 80s in mid January. No other free agent pitcher besides Kluber and Bauer have Cy Young Award upside.
  15. 5 out of the top 25 have signed, and no one in Fangraphs' top 10 has signed. Spring training full workouts begin in ~40 days. I would love to see a rapid amount of leaguewide signings we can't even keep up with it. Most of my angst in previous years is caused by the way the offseason is set up. When you have 4 months to accomplish something, and 3/4ths of the teams show zero urgency until a week or two before spring training, it makes for a frustrating experience. My proposal for creating more urgency and more fun for the fans is implementing scheduled free agency periods. At the very beginning of the offseason, teams have 2 weeks to sign free agents. After that,, free agency is locked. The rule 5 draft, minor league draft, etc. is the only activity in January. And a second free agency window is opened 2 weeks before spring training. If a top free agent held out, the clock is ticking to make a decision.
  16. This offseason has been predictably ice cold with the exception of 3 teams - White Sox, Padres, and Mets. We’re 3 months into the offseason and maybe 10 out of the top 50 free agents are signed. We’ve seen zero indication of a flurry of signings anytime soon. This is going to be just like 2018 with pissed off free agents sitting at home when spring training starts.
  17. AT&T TV is still hanging in there? Wow, they are among the worst of the streaming options IMO. Last time I checked them out they were called DirecTV Now and it was awful. It could only stream on Roku devices and the UI was tough to navigate. I’m sure things have changed in 3-4 years other than a new product name.
  18. A nice surprise is seeing 12 batters projected with a >100 OPS+. A lineup full of league average or better hitters is going to be fun to see!
  19. Definitely just a salary dump. A pretty bad look for an iconic baseball franchise, if you ask me.
  20. I’m intrigued if the terms are 2 years or less. He’s no sure thing, but I like that he’s made significant strides defensively and broke out offensively in 2019. I say 2 years or less because the 2021/22 free agent class at SS is loaded. Lindor, Corey Seager, Correa, Baez, and Story are all set to test free agency.
  21. Even in that scenario, that’s poor asset management. Lindor would need to be an MVP to have a chance at coming out ahead of that deal.
  22. I would like to subscribe to your pipe dream of somehow trading for Lindor without including Kirilloff, Lewis, Arraez, or anyone else that’s currently on the MLB team.
  23. I’m not a believer in Lewis, and I still wouldn’t trade him for 1 year of Lindor. Not when there’s a 0.000000000000000000001% chance of signing him to a short, medium, or long term contract.
