  1. I agree the tweet is overblown. He was immature to tweet back "So do I!!!!!!!!!!!!!" in response to the Dodgers fan, and us fans are immature for reading into a tweet in the first place.
  2. The perceptions of these two players from a fan's point of view couldn't be further apart. Perkins has always embraced the state, fans, and opportunity to play for this team. He also gives back to the community and an overall good person. Nolasco, OTOH, doesn't seem like he's ever embraced being a Minnesota Twin. Even when he started here he made the mistake of tweeting that he'd rather be with the Dodgers hasn't done anything on the field to justify the contract, and most everything in the news from him is a complaint about something. If the roles were reversed, the fans wouldn't like Perkins either, and Nolasco would be loved. Why would we cheer for Nolasco when it's clear he doesn't want to be here?
  3. Eventually we as fans need to let Buxton spread his wings and fly here.. I'd pencil him in as the opening day CF in the #9 hole and see what happens. If he's putting up 2013 Aaron Hicks-like numbers through the first month and change, then it'd be time to re-evaluate and mess with the 40 man to get Sweeney added.
  4. I'm all for Arcia making a push to get more playing time. Other than last year's epic failure, he showed that he can mash RH pitching. As long as he doesn't regress to his boneheaded ways in the OF, I'll be rooting for him to get some time in the lineup.
  5. Hard pass on Plouffe. Like you said, I think the Twins fold their hand and trade Plouffe. Which IMO is the right thing to do. They had a good run with Plouffe, and retained him through his age 30 season. Nothing wrong with moving on from him next season, or in July if Polanco tears up AAA pitching. Gibson I agree should be extended. He's improved every year on this team, and should have plenty of gas left in the tank to make a 4/30.5 contract worthwhile. After everyone you mentioned on the list, it's clear that there's very few on the priority list to sign. Gibson and Sano should be the highest priorities going forward, and the rest will quietly exit this team (Suzuki, Jepsen, Perkins, Plouffe) when their contracts are over.
  6. Yep Sano could be the first player to get a $200+ million contract from the Twins. He'd be worth it. Hopefully there's a way to afford him when the time comes.
  7. I figured Sano would be #1 on this list for sure... Jepsen's a hard pass for me as an extension candidate, and I'd focus all my efforts on Sano's next contract. 7/42.5 sounds like a good start.. But what would it look like if the Twins shoot for the stars and buys out multiple FA years? Would $30 million for each of his FA years be enough to keep him on board?
  8. There wasn't anything promising about LOLasco last night. Which is too bad. With Brett Anderson going down with injury for the Dodgers, I think it's safe to say we all wish Nolasco could be traded there for a bucket of sunflower seeds.
  9. Thanks for all of your hard work on the Buxton deal. To show our appreciation, we all pitched in and got you this $20 Caribou Coffee gift card! Don't spend it all at once!
  10. 1 - Yep. That would be breaking news if Polanco ends up at 3B. They talked about him getting playing time there last year, and never happened. Not sure if that's going to change, or if they're going to keep trying him at SS in AAA. I however, would like that to happen so he can play the position in the unfortunate case that Plouffe lands on the 15 day DL. 2 - The reasons you brought up are the exact reasons why I would trade Polanco, as those are good selling points (significantly cheaper, more years of control) compared to Dozier. 3- I don't know who has the higher value between Dozier and Polanco. Frankly it depends on the trade the Twins are trying to make. If the Twins are trading Dozier, it's likely that they're receiving prospects (probably highly regarded young prospects in A or AA) If the Twins are trading Polanco, it's likely they're receiving a player that's already in the MLB.
  11. If anything, sell high on Polanco this year. He still has 1 (maybe 2?) option years left, and there's still the belief glimmer of hope that he could stick at SS in the future. From everything I've read about him that's not going to happen, and he'll end up at 2B. Why not consider trading Polanco before the dust settles on his inevitable position he'll play in the majors, and before he runs out of option years?
  12. In regards to Perkins, he's signed through his age 34 season, with a club option of $6.5 mill for his age 35 season (2018). Even if Burdi, Chargois, or someone else takes over the closer role, Perkins is still a valuable piece for any bullpen. He could be an ideal set-up man towards the end of his career. He's very loyal to the team, and I would imagine he'd take another home town discount to remain with this team. That being said, I'd tear up the club option, and extend him until his age 36 season (2019) for around $5 million a year.
  13. Once Berrios is up, IMO it's going to be appointment TV on days that he pitches. I agree that he should receive the Kris Bryant treatment, as he'll only miss 2 starts in April to receive that extra year of control. Anything more than the 13 days, then we reserve the right to be as negative as possible.
  14. You're correct. No one besides maybe Berrios or Duffey would accept an extension similar to Perez. That's a dirt cheap contract to begin with 5 years $7 mill. Would you sign Buxton or Sano to an Evan Longoria type extension? He originally signed for 6 years $17.5 mill with 3 option years after that. All 3 option years were accepted, so the deal turned out to be 9 years, $44 mill. IMO I would absolutely sign both to a deal like that. Who knows what their arbitration numbers could be once they get to that point.
  15. http://images.sportsworldreport.com/data/images/full/7063/mlb-memes.jpg?w=640 FREEDOM!!!!!
  16. I'll be excited to see Kepler play FT with the Twins by June/July. I'm in agreement with several on here saying that he'll eventually replace Rosario in the lineup. I think that's going to be an upgrade either way, as Kepler will have a better chance of a higher OBP. Do you guys think he can be a 20+ HR hitter one day? Or is he comparable to a guy like Christian Yelich for the Marlins? Where he'll be a 10-15 HR guy, but a solid all-around player?
  17. Whether it's fair or not, I'm just not a fan of Tonkin. Don't think he's anything more than a 6th-7th inning guy in low leverage situations. But you are right, he's going to get his real shot because he's out of options.
  18. Not sure why there needs to be a comp to prove the players have value.... Even if there was a comp, there's a 99.9% chance it's not accurate. I'm not sure what your point is in the 2nd paragraph.... Most teams trade prospects before they reach the failure point. Like Steve said, most every trade in the MLB is a proven player for prospects.... Your solution in the 3rd paragraph is to hoard all prospects until they no longer prove useful? Even if there's not an available slot to put them on the MLB team for 2-3 years? That also makes very little sense. The perceived value of these prospects are different for each GM. Steve's point is all 3 he mentioned are consensus top 10 prospects in a very good farm system. There's going to be some demand for the players. How much? Hard to say when we're not involved in the trade discussions.
  19. 5 very worthy storylines to follow this month. I'm most looking forward to Buxton forcing the issue to be the opening day CF, and Park's transition to the MLB. I'm in agreement with you Nick that Berrios is most likely starting in AAA for a couple of weeks to get that extra year of control. I think another storyline to follow is which one of these flame throwing relievers is going to force the issue? Like I've posted many many times this off-season, I wanted a proven FA reliever to join the team. Since that didn't happen, I will embrace the youth movement. No more Tonkin's, Kintzler's, Buddy Bosher's out there. Let's see one of the young guys step up and make the team out of ST.
  20. I'd like to see more than 1 HR from Gordon, since that's approaching Ben Revere territory, but really I'm not too concerned about it. I'm hoping that Gordon continues to develop, and can be a lead off hitter for the Twins in the future. That would be extremely valuable to have a table setter at the top of the order for Sano to drive in.
  21. Both Miggy and Pujols weren't even close to Sano's weight in their 3B or OF days... Heck, Pujols isn't as big as Sano even today.... The pictures don't lie.... Here's Pujols his rookie year http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/G_s81JXi7Vk9z._3RH9SmQ--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTI0MA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/YahooSports/1307346769.jpg And Miguel Cabrera during his 3B and OF days http://img.fanbase.com/media.fanbase.com/8/38072/c69820af4cdf3e66e4f5018314c3edede990b71a.jpg?x=300&y=450&sig=47d2537b92d3d171ecca28f1c0d06561
  22. Yeah I'm not sure what kind of return that group of guys can bring back. I agree with you that Plouffe brings back little in return, along with your assessment of Walker/Arcia not bringing back anything special. What I agree with Steve about is the idea of selling Polanco this season before he runs out of options. The mindset from the Twins and bloggers of Twins baseball is Polanco has question marks of whether he can stick at SS or not. Is that a league wide assumption that he can't stick at SS, or is it just us? Wouldn't it be nice to sell him to another team with the glimmer of hope that he could stick at SS, instead of 1-2 years later when it's more definitive that he can't play SS, thus his trade value dropping lower than today?
  23. This situation is way too cloudy for the next 2+ years with Dozier entrenched at 2B, and Escobar + others coming to the rescue in the next 2-3 years. I think this situation could end a couple of ways for the Twins. If the team is contending for a playoff spot in July, IMO Polanco should be trade bait to acquire a player who can help the MLB club this year. If the team is struggling and the outlook for a playoff spot isn't great, IMO Dozier should be traded and the team can plug Polanco in at 2B to let him grow. For the time being, it's nice to have depth, but at the same time it's also wasting a potential trade chip for 2-3 years while he waits for his chance at the MLB level.
  24. I had no idea Stewart is going through these issues. I'm no expert on diabetes but yes, that is a concern going forward. At 21 I hope he can still develop into an MLB pitcher, but it wouldn't surprise me if 5-10 years down the line there's a thread on this site titled "Remember Kohl Stewart? What's he up to these days?"
