  1. That would be the ideal scenario for me. I'd rather have more competition from the younger guys for fewer spots in the bullpen, instead of hoping multiple younger guys can step up and take the available openings in the pen. That way if one of the minor leaguers has a lost year like Arcia did last year, or injury strikes, The Twins aren't left without a backup plan.
  2. Maybe Santana gets the Koufax rule and is voted in for his dominant stretch in his career. Who knows. Koufax probably got voted in for being a legend, "The Left Arm of God". Does Santana have a legendary status outside of Minnesota fans to get the same respect to be voted in?
  3. Sandy Koufax was a generational talent that set records in nearly every category of that era. And still among the all-time greats in strikeouts, winning percentage, ERA, etc. How exactly does this relate back to Santana? What statistic does he have that comes close to Koufax?
  4. Um, what? Can we return to a time after 1950 please with examples? You're right, any GM is going to want a truly elite player for a shorter amount of time. They're not the ones voting for the HOF, so not sure what that has to do with it. Johnny Bench played 15 seasons primarily as a C.... Joe still has 8.
  5. 2009 was a huge outlier from the rest of Mauer's career. If he had a longer stretch of dominance at C I could agree with you, but when it's all said and done he'll have those 8 great years of C, and 6-7 years of below average 1B production under his belt. Yes I would absolutely leave Santana out of the Hall of Fame too.. He was on pace to be one, but injuries derailed his career. Both players are very good, and will be remembered by Twins fans for their great run here, but neither had the longevity to be locks for the HOF.
  6. Sounds like you believe Mauer is a lock to be a HOFer. What's going to be the defining stat that will entice 75% of voters to say yes? Because I don't see one....
  7. Kinda reminds me of the Torii Hunter negotiations back in the day.. offering him 3 years $45 million, and the Angels offered 5 years, 90. They sure made it known that they tried to keep him with that whopper of an offer!
  8. My fear before any of these young arms are deemed to be ready, who are the Twins going to trust in the mean time? Other than Taylor Rogers, the closest ETA is in June/July... And I would imagine the ETA for Burdi, Chargois, and the likes is all dependent on their performance. If there's a lost season for one of them like Arcia just went through, there's not a lot of MLB-ready depth waiting in the wings...
  9. If Polanco has the arm to play SS I would imagine he could play some 3B too. That would be a logical solution to make up for the Twins' lack of depth at 3B in the upper minors. I would certainly be more excited to see him as the utility IF player instead of Nunez...
  10. Yeah, looking at the full picture I can see why the Twins were bullish on not trading Plouffe... The cupboards are pretty bare in the higher levels of the minors. If Sano or Plouffe were to get injured, there's an enormous delta between them and the replacement players.
  11. Hit the nail right on the head zenser. He will be remembered as a very good baseball player, but he has no chance at the Hall of Fame. Other than his batting average and on-base percentage, there isn't a single career stat that will entice voters to consider him for Cooperstown.
  12. I'm cringing already on behalf of our fly ball pitchers like E.Santana and Hughes the way our projected OF is looking like. Buxton can cover a lot of ground out there, but I don't think he's capable of covering over half of the OF, which is what he'd need if Arcia and Sano are playing next to him. Or in the case that Buxton starts in AAA, Rosario's going to need to play out of his mind defensively next to Santana and Sano/Arcia. As much as I'd like to think our offense will improve with this cast of characters, I'm also envisioning a lot of Texas leaguers dropping for hits...
  13. Yep, agreed with Mike and Levi. If they were to start the season with the best talent, Kepler would be up either as the 4th OF or starting in a corner OF spot. But I fear this is the depth chart the way the Twins see it: - Rosario - Sano - Buxton - Arcia - Danny Santana - Kepler Barring injury to 2 or more of the 5 OF's above Kepler, I don't think we're going to see him in the majors until September call-ups again.
  14. Pictured: Chief's reaction after the line, "Let's start the winning in 2016." http://a.fod4.com/images/user_photos/1176298/tumblr_lfm14iw7tJ1qz82gvo1_500_width_600x.jpeg
  15. Maybe this will be the year we see Polanco have more than a cup of coffee in the majors... I hope so at least. How many option years does he have left? It would be a shame to use them all before we even know what he can do at the MLB level....
  16. There was an interesting mailbag question in last week's Gleeman & The Geek podcast.. Over/under 150 plate appearances for Kepler this year? I'm going with the under.
  17. Seth, I noticed that a majority of the players you featured are lower round players (8th round being the highest I see) and a couple of international signings for a decent amount of change $1.5 million. Is that a trend with other teams that they don't invest high draft picks on 1st baseman types?
  18. I can't speak for all, but I am concerned of a step backwards for Duffey. He has the SSS of 10 MLB starts, and pitched a career high amount of 180+ innings. The Twins wouldn't have been in the playoff race until 3 games remaining without his contributions, so I hope I am wrong.
  19. I think there's going to be a lot of friendly banter and ranting on this site in regards to when Berrios should be making his debut. It's going to be a lot of fun to finally see him make the Twins roster, whether that's in mid-to-late April (the camp I'm in) or later in the season. I'm also excited to see Buxton's potential breakthrough in 2016. He showed some positive improvements in his game in September, and I hope he runs away with the CF job right out of ST.
  20. Leidner waits until the bowl game to have his best game of the season, maybe his career. I'd still like for Croft or Green to win the job next year. Who knows, maybe Claeys or Weber the QB coach can help him progress further than Limegrove or Kill ever did.
  21. I'm not sure exactly how my family got this opportunity as I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time. We were able to get a full tour of the Metrodome, checking out the locker rooms, the bullpen, dugout... I'm sure my mother has a picture of myself and my older brother on the bullpen phone. The best part was after the tour, we went into a room to have a private meeting with Kirby Puckett. Keep in mind my age at the time, but my memory was he treated us like we were life long friends. He was cracking jokes, and willing to sign anything that was presented. He must have signed around 40 items, including several baseball cards, bats, and magazines he was featured on. My favorite item he signed, and is still framed proudly in my bedroom today, is an authentic Kirby Puckett jersey. He signed the jersey and put a personal note to me as well during his time when we met. It's a conversation piece that everyone brings up when they see the framed jersey in my place to today.
  22. I'd much rather see Milone traded to another team, and let the upside of May play out in the rotation. We know what Milone is, a back of the rotation starter. And if the Twins were to make the playoffs, he's not going to be included in the playoff rotation. As Nick mentioned, he doesn't offer much as a relief pitcher, so what are the Twins going to do with him if they were to make the playoffs in 2016? The title of this article is "Let's stop discounting Milone" but why are we discounting May's SSS of 25 starts?
  23. So a management strategy of top revenue teams is to play younger, better players?? I think you may be reading into something that's not present in Dave's post.
  24. Agreed. He flew up the system last season and looked pretty awesome in a SSS of 10 MLB starts. I can see him regressing if that curve ball of his isn't as sharp as last season.
