  1. I have a bad feeling the Twins got too greedy here, and we'll be kicking ourselves 6 months, 1 year, or 1.5 years down the road for not taking a trade including a top prospect in the game.
  2. I don't see who Bautista would be blocking from this roster. Park is unproven, Vargas had 2 hot weeks then fell off a cliff. There are zero backup OFs I want to hold on to.
  3. Whether the Twins sign Joey Bats, Trumbo, or whoever, can there at least be some activity this off-season? The fact that a 59 win team is doing very little to change the roster is mind boggling to me.
  4. One of these years I'm going to make this event... Too many weddings to attend, not enough PTO days.
  5. Ryan Mills = Derrick Williams. Supposed to be the "safe" pick at their respective draft slot, and both were utter disappointments.
  6. Couldn't agree more with this. I'm sure the new regime has done things behind the scenes to improve the organization a bit. They haven't done much of anything with the things us fans are concerned about: roster construction, managerial staff, etc. I'm also vastly disappointed that we can only discuss 1 major league signing so far.
  7. I agree with DocBauer, and believe they still need a backup SS, 4th OF, and a back end bullpen arm or 2. Feliz and Greg Holland are high on my priority list to sign. Erick Aybar isn't an exciting move, but could serve the role as backup SS. If not, trade for Zack Cosart. Remove D Santana from the 40 man to make this move. Escobar reverts to a utility role. A 1 year rental 4th OF would serve the team well as Palka/Granite get every day ABs in AAA. Just to throw out a name, Angel Pagan. Remove Grossman from the 40 man to make this move.
  8. Not only are we going to build a wall around Minnesota, Chief, we're going to South Carolina, and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York.... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House! YEAH!!! http://i1.wp.com/www.powerlineblog.com/ed-assets/2015/08/HOWARD-DEAN-facebook.jpg?fit=1200%2C1200
  9. I'm going to have to listen to this press conference.... Just reading the quotes on Twitter. Clearly he didn't know about Brewster coming in here before claiming Rose Bowls and National Championships were a given for the program. Holy buckets.
  10. There's only one Tim Brewster... He was "tremendous", and light years ahead of his time. I would have preferred a more tenured, prestigious coach like Les Miles to give the program some credibility given the serious issues currently surrounding the program... I hope this flavor of the month turns out to be the right move for them.
  11. Fleck, when described in the paper as a "fiery, energetic coach" reminds me of someone else.... http://xandolabs.com/research/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Time-Brewster-.jpg Get that chili hot boys.... GET THAT CHILI HOT!
  12. I'm very intrigued with this news.... Les Miles is reportedly flying up to Minnesota to interview for the Gopher job.
  13. Palmeiro falling off was a result of the old, curmudgeon HOF voters who are no longer on the voting committee. This year with the new staff of voters, PED era players are getting their fair shot. I'm 100% on board to elect Bonds, Clemens, and others from that era.
  14. Yep, I 'member.... He was one of the original Twins killers. 22-6 career record against them (!) with a 3.09 ERA in 230 IP. In fact, his record against the Twins is the best in his career, with the exception of a couple SSS where he only started against an NL team 1-4 times.
  15. Agreed. I've got to imagine it's multi-layered in the decision to fire him. The fact that he tweeted out his love and support for the 10 players/entire team played a factor. As Ben said, there's a good argument to get rid of him specifically for the on-field coaching too. And finally, the recruiting. His incoming class looks bad, really bad. Quite frankly you need to have some charm and charisma in order to recruit kids to come to the school. Based off of Claeys' interviews, he doesn't appear to have any of that. Good coach, bad recruiter.
  16. Nothing that I've read so far mentions that Coyle made this decision because of the sexual assault case. I think you could make a case that performance had something to do with the firing as well....
  17. Over 2,400 comments on the Star Tribune article I linked yesterday.... Shocked that so many people are outraged at the decision to fire Claeys.
  18. I'm happy they got rid of some of the old, curmudgeon HOF voters and are reconsidering players from the late 90's/early 00's.
  19. I hope to live long enough to see the demise of the NCAA.
  20. Until the NCAA seizes to exist I suppose. Which I hope is sooner rather than later.
  21. Yep, no doubt. But every university wants a chip, chair, and a chance at the BIG corporate money from these bowl games.
  22. I don't think Les Miles would come near this program TBH unless they give him a godfather offer of $7+ million... P.J. Fleck would be the first call to make. Tuned in and out of their game yesterday, and he looks like a motivating coach to play for. Charlie Strong maybe? Perhaps the lights were too bright to handle down here at UT. Even an outside the box hire like NDSU's head coach.
  23. Wow, so long Tracy Claeys. Promptly fired this afternoon. The three names mentioned in the Star Tribune article I linked: "Speculation is sure to start immediately on who will replace Claeys, with Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck, former LSU coach Les Miles and Boise State coach Bryan Harsin (a Coyle hire when he worked at Boise State) among the names expected to get tossed around."
