  1. None of these come close to being the best but were still significant IMHO. Chili Davis (1991-92) -- huge numbers in the first half of the 91 season. Kenny Rogers (2003) -- was with the Twins for only one year but was a key part of that year's rotation Brian Harper (1990-93) -- everybody knows about him, right? Batted over .300 and had 269 RBIs in his 4 years with the team. Plus he had some memorable plays at home during the 91 WS. Henry Blanco (2004) -- don't laugh too hard. He took over as starting catcher after Joe Mauer got hurt early in the season and did a pretty nice job for someone who was signed to be the backup catcher. Morris won a WS game 7 -- he's got to be the best signing. Cruz comes in second.
  2. I just can't help but reiterate that the Twins are simply a better team with Gonzalez in the line-up. The playoff experience he, Cruz and Romo bring to the table will hopefully rub off on the younger players and pay off.
  3. Elite? Not quite. Significantly better than what the Twins started the season with? Absolutely (thank you Romo, Duffman, Littel, and to a lesser extent May) Capable of performing consistently in high pressure play off games? Wellllllll........
  4. I think the last week has shown that with Gonzalez in the line up the Twins are a different i.e. much better, team than they are when he isn't. And Arraez is simply amazingly -- BA is now .354.
  5. Things are always darkest when the lights go out or when Kohl Stewart comes in to pitch in a relatively close game. As I understand it, Sano, Cave, and Kepler should all be available this weekend to one extent or another, and the big guns in the BP are rested and raring to go. Arraez and Garver continue to hit and Cruz looks like he shook off whatever was bothering him. These are good things. Berrios and/or Odorizzi will come through big which means the Twins win at least one game. We all know that for some reason the Twins are a much better team on the road than not. Keep the faith Twins Land!!!
  6. Team up Smeltzer with Dobnak, and Thorpe with Littell since all of them, while not spectacular, have shown they are, as they say, "serviceable". You then have Stashak/Romero/Graterol/Stewart standing by if any of those four falter. Big opportunity for the young guys to grow up fast and shine.
  7. The last three Twins victories have been by one run (4-3, 6-5, 2-1). On the one hand you could complain that it's not like the thumpings they were handing out in April, May, and June. On the other hand you could say it's rather encouraging, knowaddamean?
  8. I kinda liked the way the umpire gave a rather ho hum, "You're out" sign and walked away as if he was heading to a bar to get a beer. Which is probably what he was going to do.
  9. Meanwhile in Cleveland, the ChiSox are putting the kabosh on the Indians. 6-1 Sox in top of the 6th, 3 runs in, two men on, no outs.
  10. So if the Twins one of the first two in Boston, does Graterol get the start on Wednesday? Or does Roco play it "safe" by using Smeltzer or Thorpe? Or all of the above?
  11. The MLB.com story on Gibson said he's lost 10 pounds over the last month or so. Given that and how weak he said he felt on Friday, getting through 5 innings for him was a major case of sucking it up for the team.
  12. Our home town heroes are guaranteed to win the division by going 31-2 for the rest of the season. With Buxton apparently coming back on Tuesday, that should be doable, right?
  13. I heard Francona made Allen and Santana send written apologies to the Yankees for hitting HRs against a position player. Or maybe not.
  14. Meanwhile in New York, ahead 14-4 Cleveland hits two home runs and scores 5 runs in the 8th against a position player. I suppose somewhere there's an unwritten rule about that not being allowed.
  15. The Indians scored 7 runs in their last three games and won two of them because they gave up 2 runs. The Twins scored 19 runs in their last three games and won one of them because they gave up 26 runs. In sincerely hope this pattern does not continue.
  16. I have some good news and I have some bad news. What's the good news? The Twins scored 46 runs in six games against the Yankees and the Braves. Wow, that's fantastic! What's the bad news? The Yankees and the Braves scored 56.
