  1. Not a "favorite" memory but one nonetheless, was the fact that in the 1991 World Series Mack was doing so horribly, in Game 5 Kelly actually started Chili Davis in RF (shudder).
  2. Uh, wasn't there a guy named Alex Rodriguez? In 11 play off games alone, 3 HR, 10 RBIs, .390 avg = 44 HR, 147 RBIs in 162 games.
  3. Jim Merritt for Leo Cardenas in 1968 was a significant move as was Versalles/Grant for Perranoski/Miller/Roseboro in 1967. Both of those trades set up the 69 and 70 division winners.
  4. Re: Versalles in 1965. I recall that at the time being a semi-baseball crazed 10 year I read a story during spring training that Sam Mele fining him something like $50 for loafing. Versalles didn't like it and dared him to fine him $100, so Mele did. Then he dared to fine him $150, so Mele did that too. And then he has a MVP season. Motivation or something.
  5. Just for comparison's sake 1967 Dean Chance 20-14, Jim Kaat 16-13 Jim Merritt 13-7 Dave Boswell 14-12 1969 Jim Perry 20-6 Dave Boswell 20-12 Jim Kaat 14-13 1970 Jim Perry 24-12 Jim Kaat 14-10 Some teenager named Bert 10-9
  6. I'd prefer adding two teams (one in Charlotte and one in ?), have 2-8 team divisions in each league, have two best of 7 league championship series, and then have the World Series.
  7. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Looking at the relative amount of improvement or lack there of, I'm guessing that without a big trade to get an established starter for the Twins, we're back to the days of brawling with the ChiSox over the division title with Cleveland on the outside looking in.
  9. A nice stocking stuffer, but I still want to see the 2020 SUV in the driveway Christmas morning.
  10. Signing Gregorius would be great even if he never played since the Twins wouldn't have to watch him play for another team and single-handedly destroy them every other game.
  11. One other depressing note. The Yankee dominated with Stanton and Judge contributing nothing but 1 RBI in game 1 (Stanton) and a good catch in game 3 (Judge). Imagine the carnage if they had contributed more.
  12. Take it back to the second game of the ALCS with the Angels in 2002 and the Twins have lost 23 out of 25 playoff games (including the 2017 WC game). Isn't that just about statistically impossible?
  13. I personally liked the time Tori Hunter got hit by a pitch and then picked up the ball and threw it back at the pitcher as hard as he could. Classic.
  14. Twins beat up Severino and win game 3, Berrios pitches like he is capable of pitching and wins game 4, and then I guess Smeltzer starts game 5 in NY and then......? A fan can dream, can't he?
  15. It would've been nice to see Buxton's name on the list, but I guess we'll just have to wait until next year when the Twins defend their WS title.
  16. Watch the video of Castro's (the Tigers', not ours) RBI single and pay attention to Miller's throw to home--it would appear he has quite the arm.
  17. Thorpe may not have the best "stuff", but he does appear to have the attitude to succeed.
  18. There was also a 0-6 road trip to Detroit and Boston the second half of August where they got outscored 49-15. They then dropped 2 of 3 to the Tigers at home -- I was absolutely dying that week.
