  1. and just cause Dozier thinks this team is a playoff contender doesnt mean it actually is. We arent going to trade for anything of consequence by the trade deadline.
  2. since 2014, only three AL starters have more fWAR than Quintana. Three.
  3. Ervin Santana is a weak #2/strong #3. Santana hasnt had an fWAR over 3.2 since 2008 and only one fWAR over 2.9 since 2008. I doubt he get over 3.0 this year. Quintana's last 4 fWAR going into this season was 3.5, 5.1, 4.8, 4.8.
  4. Quintana. Tied with Lester for 8th most SP fWAR in MLB last 5 seasons and 4th in AL last 5 seasons(2014-present). #3 pitcher
  5. Cubs have a lot of young talent. They can easily afford what they gave up (only two actually good prospects) and not even sweat it. I think Cease will be a very good MLB pitcher some day though. Hate to see WSox get him. Nice job by the Cubs.
  6. Yeah, I didn't want him there. Don't really care that Plouffe is gone, I just prefer to have quality defenisve players and I don't see that in Sano. He does make occasional very good plays, like most MLBers do, (and sometimes our announcers make it seem like the plays he makes are greater than they actually are), but it's about the body of work. I have no crow to eat. He's not a quality defensive 3B. Just cause he hasn't been a full-fledged disaster this year doesn't change that. His bat has been top notch and it certainly helps take away some of the loss we get from him defensively. Sorry this conversation has gotten derailed. Back to Nick Gordon being on the table in a trade. Yes.
  7. I guess it depends on what one defines as adequate. Last in DRS, second to last in range, and a negative UZR.
  8. We have two players who should be off limits for high-quality longtime controlled starting pitching. Our future DH (Sano) and Berrios.
  9. or we could search for a legimate MLB starting caliber corner OF instead of picking between two guys who are pretty much 4th OF talent.
  10. This team has always looked for undervalued guys. Strategy is hardly new to us. Players having off years making them cheaper to get in the hopes they bounce back. This is SOP. They arent going to spend what it takes to get an ace on the open market.
  11. in regards to whether or not he'd be an underdog in almost any playoff series I wonder. I guess it would depend on who else made the playoffs. Not all of the top pitchers make the playoffs and he has been top 8 ALSP for the previous 3 seasons. In an event, even here, I read he is a 'solid #3' on a championship team. Guy has been a top 8 AL SP for awhile and yet solid #3? How stacked IS that team?
  12. Some are asking when Quintana became an Ace. In the last 4 seasons prior to this year, his fWAR was 3.5, 5.1, 4.8, 4.8. Barring injury, this will be his 5th year in a row at 200 or more IP, and his 4th year in a row with a fWAR at 4.0 or higher. He hasnt been below top 8 in AL SP fWAR in the last three full seasons.
  13. I would look at Straily's career FIP, and his most recent ones, and then take into account he pitches in the NL. Then I would pass on trading any quality for him.
  14. I think it's because he's not a MLB caliber pitcher. One nice 1/3 of a season to start his career, then baseball figured him out.
  15. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/tiny-altuve-standing-next-to-huge-judge-gets-meme-treatment/ar-BBDDgDA Judge: "Felt a raindrop. I think it's raining." Altuve: "I don't feel anything." Judge: "It's still falling. Should reach you any minute." A pitch at Jose Altuve's face is still a strike for Aaron Judge Judge: What are you doing after the game? Altuve: My mom is picking me up and we're going to Chuckie Cheese".
  16. Did you see the picture of Altuve standing next to Judge? Some hilarious comments made.
  17. no, he absolutely messed up too, but Sano's mistake is on Sano and no one else. You don't set yourself up to get thrown out at 3rd so a guy can get to 2nd.
  18. So, wait a minute, Richard is blaming Sano's mistake on Kepler?
  19. So does baseball-reference...because the info is given by the teams...
