  1. The prevailing theory nowadays is develop position players, buy pitching.
  2. Lance Lynn had a FIP close to 5.00. In the NL. After not pitching in the majors in 2016. Hard pass.
  3. Even though I'm not from Minnesota, so the idea of him being one of us is lost on me personally, he was a great player who I enjoyed watching a lot. This is a very good article. Thanks.
  4. I hope Mauer gets another contract. His defense and his OBP are valuable. Obviously he'd need to take a decent pay cut, butt he still has good value.
  5. In 2015, the Twins were tied for 11th in % of revenue put into player salary, putting 49% of revenue back into player salary. http://i.imgur.com/yPYrkOg.jpg We're usually around that. In the dome, at times, we got quite a bit higher. Salaries for players past their initial controllable years are well past the point of getting ridiculous though.
  6. Sell high on Gibson? How would that be possible based on his performance this season? Or last season for that matter (since both seasons practically mirrored each other).
  7. The best center fielder in baseball is TROUT. Also the best overall player. Buxton was, however, very much the best defensive outfielder this year and yeah, we should lock him up sooner rather than latter. I'd be happy if they waited another season though, to see if the 2nd half hitting sticks and he doesn't destroy himself playing recklessly.
  8. Well, you probably don't know even close to everyone who knows baseball nor have you likely had discussions with anyone in baseball in regards to that. If so, please share. I'm sure many would love to hear how those conversations went. Lots of studies have shown how bad it is to purposely give away outs. With the pitcher in the NL it makes slightly more sense in certain situations, but teams get 24-27 outs in most games and giving them away has been shown to decrease the odds of scoring, not increase it. So I imagine that managers who embrace newer info out there, only call for it in selected situations. Some older school managers might find it makes sense whenever because that's how the game has been played for so long. Bunting for hits is a different conversation.
  9. To be more competent they had to be competent first :-) The overall pitching staff was 11th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and WAR. The rotation was 10th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and WAR and 12th in IP. The bullpen was 11th out of 15 AL teams in FIP and 13th in WAR.
  10. I edited part of the quote to just show what I was responding to. In otheer words Yes, a manager has won MGR of the Year and been fired.
  11. I think many wanted Paul gone before this game for a myriad of reasons they thought were good reasons. I think he's done a good job and should be brought back.
  12. that was THIS guy in regards to yet another Buxton fantabulous catch;-)
  13. Rosario's decision to throw the ball the 3B was smart. He was close and Judge would have been out with a decent throw.
