  1. No need to apologize for getting on a moral high horse. Your post doesnt put you on a moral high horse at all. People have a right to discuss whether or not players are deserving on an award. NO ONE SEEMS TO BE UPSET Dozier won (and there of tons of congratulations). Some are just wondering if he was the best choice, and I dont know wondering that means that peole want him gone for new shiny propsects. Some fans are putting their fandom aside and asking if he was deserving in the same way some people are wondering why Hosmer even warrants a top 3 spot much less winning the thing. Its a baseball discussion about the merits of an award.
  2. Exactly how I feel. And Hosmer won, so Dozier winning it isn't even the worst selection.
  3. Yeah, AJ Hinch definitely had a full roster of quality players, but that's a result of the GM's work.
  4. I agree with Jeff Sullivan (who picked Molitor before the finalists were annoounced) in that I think Molitor will win. Go Paul!
  5. If our plan is to count on the starters we have and then add to the BACK part of the rotation, that is a bad plan. Cause we have enough back end starters, in fact, that's mostly what we have.
  6. The Astros were 6th in MLB for pitching fWAR at a robust 20.8 fWAR. They were also 2nd in K/9 IP, 6th in FIP and 3rd in xFIP. I want that kind of mediocre pitching for the Twins, cause that's championship caliber pitching.
  7. From the original post, perhaps the biggest myth written in it is the paragraph that basically says Kyle Gibson has finally figured it out. As far as Buxton goes, hopefully he'll stop slamming into walls. A healthy Buxton who plays aggressive yet smart is more valuable than a Buxton who makes a great catch and then has to sit out weeks because he tried to run through a wall.
  8. So, no chance for Royce Lewis to take the top spot? Interesting.
  9. Since this is just about defense, there are concerns at 3B and 2B more than SS. Our team was 24th in DRS at 3B. No significant difference between the defense provided by Escobar and Sano. Both bad. Our team was 22nd in DRS at 2B. Dozier has no business as a GG finalist. Our SS position was at 17th in DRS. Polanco was better at SS than Dozier was at 2B. Thank goodness for 4th ranked 1B and 4th ranked OF in DRS.
  10. In the last two months, Santana's ERA and FIP were better than Gibson's. They gave up the same amount of HR, though Gibson had 10 less innings. In August, Gibson's HR/FB rate was 14.3%, Santana's was 8.7% In September/October, Gibson's HR/FB rate was 18.5%, Santana's was 7.5% Yeah, Santana's early start was unsustainable, everything pointed that out, but he was still better than Gibson in the last two months.
  11. You assume we would have drafted Gray, Bregman and Rodon or that it would have mattered if we had drafted Gray or Rodon (meaning could we develop them?) Anyway, we've drafted pretty high most of this decade. In the last 6 drafts we've drafted, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 15th. This isn't high enough?. Yeah, it wasn't three #1 in a row like the Astros had but only one of those will amount to anything for them anyway (yeah, he's awesome). Going into this season we had the worst record in baseball this decade, I believe. If not, very close. We've had opportunity. Twins don't draft top notch starting pitchers and/or we can't develop them(unless we're including the rule 5 draft then we did it once). Either way, at some point, it turns into an organizational failure which I believe was the case. That is one of a few reasons why I'm glad the new guys are on board.
  12. Cubs still won their division and made in the the NLCS. Very good year for them. Losing Fowler was big and a falloff from the pitching staff was an issue for them too.
  13. He was? Based on what? I'd say Santana was. Anyway in Gibson's last three starts, he had one quality start, gave up 11 ER in only 16 2/3 IP to include his last start where he gave up 3 ER, threw 87 pitches, and didn't make it out of the 4th. And in 3 of the 11 starts he had in the last 2 months, he didn't make it out of the 5th three times. This is the guy you think should have started our playoff game (not a game 163)? Yeah, no.
  14. Assuming he stays healthy and stays in playing shape (assuming one thinks he's in playing shape now).
  15. Sano has half the PAs Rendon has. Rendon gets him in BA and OBP and strikes out WAAAAAAAAY less. Rendon has less strikeouts in his career than Sano did in his first half season in the majors. Rendon is also way better of a defender. Sano has Rendon on power.
  16. All I was saying is that his ERA wasn't below 4.00 simply because of the defense. He was legitimately good.
  17. Hosmer has NEVER been a real quality defensive 1B. Ever. Where he got that rep is beyond me. Has never deserved a GG. Ever.
  18. Mauer not only led AL 1Bs in UZR, he led MLB 1Bs in UZR. 3rd in DRS for AL 1Bs. 3rd in the AL for RZR. Can't even be a finalist? Then there's the idea that Hosmer is in thee top 3. WOW!
