  1. 'Revised Zone Rating (RZR) measures, “the proportion of balls hit into a fielder’s zone that he successfully converted into an out. RZR measures a player’s range, taking three things into account: the amount of Balls In Zone (BIZ) a player receives, a player’s total Plays Made, and a player’s total amount of Out Of Zone Plays Made (OOZ). It is, essentially, a simplified version of UZR. So it measures the range as opposed to the stat that is called range factor. Range factor is calculated by dividing putouts and assists by the number of innings or games played at a given defense position. For me, it seems there's a difference between speed and quickness.
  2. Whenever I watch Hardy seems he has great range and an accurate arm. In the year he played for us, RZR (range) listed him 2nd.
  3. I think Dozier floats between a 3-4 WAR player for a few years. That's a valuable player.
  4. Sorry, but I barely know you and I'd take your word over Heyman if the two of you disagreed. I don't doubt the possibility he's right in this situation, but his word brings no value to me. We can add Harold Reynolds to that :-)
  5. I agree both are untouchable, but are you saying you think Buxton could be better than Trout? Cause a guy like Trout comes along once in a generation and I'd rather not put those kind of expectations on our guy. I think some (not you necessarily) under-estimate how excellent Trout is. I'd be unbelievably happy if Buxton was a healthy Eric Davis.
  6. Amaro wants a top notch prospect AND for the team getting Hamels to pay his whole contract. That's the problem. If it took just one really good prospect and Philly ate a good chunk of Hamels contract, he'd be traded already.
  7. 24 year old Scherzer had a 3.0 WAR his first, and only, full year starting in Arizona. During his brief time in Arizona, he sported a 3.73 FIP and a 3.86 ERA and more Ks than IP. I don't think it was a stretch to think he might be extremely good. I don't think he was over-hyped.
  8. I think a #3 pitcher isn't just slightly above average. Most relievers are pitchers who aren't good enough to start. They have to be included into the mix. A typical #3 pitcher is a quality pitcher.
  9. I think his point was at 25, we are already due to get his whole prime. Some would argue the prime is even earlier and we wasted last year. I still think he doesn't make the team out of ST. I think service time WILL factor into it, whether it should or not. And I think they have excuses they can use to try and justify it.
  10. yeah, I read the other posts, and I've read a lot of things concerning the length of game and how that extra 15, 20 minutes is such a problem and how the new Commish wants to shorten it. My point was, I have no issues with the game being longer. If I'm at a game, I ESPECIALLY like that the game takes longer. I enjoy the experience. But I'm not part of the ADD crowd or people who need to rush through things to get to other things. I can just sit back, relax, and take it all in. I hate two hour baseball games though, especially if I paid to go.
  11. From what I see, they are currently the best team in the division. They should win it. 100 wins is a lot, but yeah, it wouldn't surprise me.
  12. Exactly. He had a FIP of 3.80, but an ERA of 4.47. Not surprisingly, Gibson was hurt pretty badly by the 'defense' we had out there. Too bad that wasn't addressed this offseason.
  13. Kiley never said they shouldn't try him as a starter. He, and many other scouts, just think eventually he'll be a closer. I don;t know why this evaluation upsets so many people. These guys get paid for their opinions because they're good at it, not because they are perfect at it.
  14. Seems the point he was making about Wimmers is that it's about time to see what he has. And my point is, it's about time to see what Meyer has. Past time on both, really. The fact that Meyer JUST turned 25 doesn't change that.
  15. yup, I was the one who asked the question in the chat :-) Additionally on page one of this thread, I pointed out his breakdown of Meyer where he said most scouts consider him a future closer and Kiley said #3/#4 starter or closer.
  16. I am way more excited to see Berrios suit up as a Twin than I am about Meyer. I Meyer the next Morrow, only taller?
  17. was he working all the pitches in his current repertoire during those years? Would he fall back on his better pitchers to avoid the walks, instead of continuing to work them?
  18. They may wonder whether or not it's a good idea to assume a guy, who is already 25, will improve his control enough. I don't know. As Kiley said, many scouts see him as a closer, there's likely a reason for that. I hope thy are wrong.
  19. Maybe it's the ability to control these pitches consistently they see as a problem. I don't know. I sometimes thing we 'want' our guys to be better than many scouts think they will be. Not that the scouts are infallible by any means ut I think sometimes fans quickly dismiss scouts thoughts if they knock a guy we are hoping will be very good.
  20. unfortunately, it seems a good chunk of scouts think otherwise. I hope you are right. In Nov 2014, Baseball America also had him behind Stewart and Berrios. That's where I'd put him too.
  21. Kiley McDaniel has him as our #6 prospect and says he sees him as a '#3/4 starter or closer. 'Most scouts think he ends up as a shutdown closer, but the Twins are trying to make him a starter and there’s still a chance Meyer gets there. If he can tone everything down to where it’s repeatable, the upside is probably a #3 starter but this seems destined for the bullpen at some point.' http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-the-prospects-minnesota-twins/
