  1. I can see the rationale, but I thought we were past every see this guy again.
  2. He cheated before, and very badly at that. https://timedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/ap143517767316.jpg
  3. I was shocked for half a second then I thought of him twice using a substance on his neck and twice getting kicked out of games. Good riddance and I hope there is something in his contract that will relieve the Twins of any financial hardship on this sh*t! Onward with the players we have. The postseason was always a bit of pipe dream because of our suspect pitching and this doesn't change that, it only alters it somewhat.
  4. The teams with the best record against over .500 teams happen to also be the teams to beat in the playoffs: 1) Dodgers, .583 2) Yankees, .580 3) Astros, .576 4) Braves, .557 5) A's, .551
  5. Jeez, I just noticed that they seem to have the same birthday. I mean what are the odds of that? 1 in 365 or something?
  6. Seth, Nick Gordon's Range of Field this year at SS is 3.35 (according to Baseball Reference.) That seems very low to me. Is "Range of Field" a reliable indicator of ... um ... a player's defensive range? Two years ago at A+ ball his RF was 4.65.
  7. It is a common sense unwritten rule. You're up 8 in the 9th and the count is 3-0. You don't swing. Cave swung. The next better Kepler got beaned in the gentlest of possible ways. Kepler didn't get mad. Baldelli didn't get mad. It's baseball. This is how baseball is played. It's a great unwritten rule.
  8. The situation at first base seems perfect. Cron will be back next year, and Rooker will be ready to be called up next year. To have an excellent player briefly standing in the way of a potentially excellent player is what defines long term success.
  9. This almost deserves a separate post, but I want to keep it on the Twins and the All-Star team so more people are likely to read it ... this is old news to some, new to others I hope: All-Star Rosters Need to be Expanded: It's Logical! 1) In 1958, each league had 8 teams and 25 men made the All-Star team, which meant 3.1 players per team, on average, were All-Stars. 3) In 2019, each league has 15 teams, and yes the roster has expanded to 34 players; however, this means only 2.26 players from each team, on average, go. Dear Commissoner, 1) Buy a calculator. 2) Bring the rosters up to the speed they were at in 1958. If you do so, the American League roster will contain 47 players (13 players more than at present!).
  10. One huge problem with employing the word "millennial" to describe Twins players of a certain age: 18 on the 40 man roster are from outside the United States. Thus, 45% of the players do not fit the millennial category at all, which, even for US-born humans, is a rather broad or generalized description of a group.
  11. Dear Cody, Rod Carew himself probably wouldn't know exactly what to make of OPS+. I understand OPS perfectly well, and I understand that OPS+ is calculated for ballparks, BUT ... what exactly is a poor OPS+, an average OPS+, an above-average OPS+, and an excellent OPS+? What does 100 mean? Thank you on behalf of those who do not know.
  12. Using the old-fashioned "eye test," Kepler's low BABIP is obvious. He pulls everything, and grounds out a lot, and pops out a lot. If he learns to hit the ball where it's pitched, rather than pulling he will yet blossom into a top-notch hitter. Alas, we have only seen hints of that yet.
  13. Too early to tell, but my money is on Polanco. He can stroke it from both sides of the plate. He's a fairly good SS. He will, in my opinion, win a batting title this year or another year. Only one player has that swing! And he's not cocky, but concentrates all his energy in what he's doing. Perhaps out new Rod Carew.
  14. A fireman who goes to the scene then wets his pants is not the answer but it does mean his intentions were good.
  15. Steve, where did you play town ball? It is impressive that you played until you were 30, it shows how much you love the game. I would much rather play than watch, but ...
  16. I presume it is because the title appears to be a statement of fact, which it is not.
