  1. I think we can do both want big free agent signings and call the Donaldson signing a gaffe if things continue the way they are going!
  2. There is something seriously wrong with Astudillo's mlb.com page. Besides the .318 lifetime batting average it says that he played for Atlanta! And ... he has had 155 career at bats. That earns a solid WTF?
  3. I'm not sure how he be "satisfied" with this decision. The A goes has a weak Spring Training, the job appeared to have been his, at least out of the gate. Suddenly it's not. (I think, if I were him, I'd be pretty dissatisfied.)
  4. You are incorrect, sir. Baseball Reference shows that he has a .294 career batting average, and an ON BASE AVERAGE OF .319.
  5. Hughes. Third basement. Great spring training. Not even a passable player. Third basement. (It just reminds me of that. No straight comparison. Don't know anything about Garlick. We'll see. Think it must be devastating for Rooker, though.)
  6. Interesting article and interesting comments. As a casual fan, I will wait and see how Dobnak performs in 2021. He pretty much bummed me out last year. He lost his spot in the rotation. Is the new pitch a winner? I'll wait and see. Because I'm a casual fan.
  7. My feeling is that Cruz won't "slow down" so much as a wrist injury will put him on the shelf one day and he'll never be healthy enough to be full-Nelson again.
  8. If I stop the noise that has accumulated over Buxton's career, and say start now, I'd say he should definitely bat lead off. And ... why did he stop stealing bases in the last year and a half? He wears a wacky oven mitt (which I think should be regulated; I suppose this year they'll even be longer, thus more absurd). But that's beside the point. The point was. ... What was the point? That Buxton is the logical leadoff man, while Arraez gets on bases he runs slow and he has wonky knees.
  9. Interesting link. I'm shocked that SS ranks second after RF among position players. (In the AL, that is.)
  10. Every player on a great doesn't need to be great. A stellar defender in right field is a valuable asset. If Kepler is a 2 WAR player this year (and if the Twins are a great team), then play him. But please, please, please bat him low in the lineup! (And go ahead and platoon him if necessary).
  11. A very well written article! I like the idea quite a bit, but then I began to wonder (as others have) that if Polanco isn't good enough to play SS for the Twins why would the Reds consider him good enough to play for them? Sort of the lynchpin on the whole deal falls apart right there.
  12. Insurance, in general, is "privatized socialism." (A term that I have unofficially coined), in that we all protected from catastrophic loss, while built-in profits go to the insurance companies. A strange arrangement, to say the least.
  13. Given that the Twins knew of Donaldson's calf injuries prior to signing him, I wonder if an insurance policy was built into his contract that pays for whatever percentage of a given season he misses? I doubt it, but it would have seemed prudent, given his age and injury history.
  14. I would bet that the Twins have no more and no fewer injuries than any other MLB team. I looked on the internet but couldn't find any team comparisons. E.g. It would helpful to compare "time spent on the IL" per team over the last 10 years. If anybody out there can help I would greatly appreciate it! (Maybe others would too.)
  15. I'm so disappointed in Sano. He's had two plus years in the presence of Nelson Cruz and he still swings for the moon with his eyes half closed. It's inexplicable that this is his age-28 season and he hasn't learned. On the other hand, every other year for him has been at least decent. 2015 OPS .916 2017 OPS .859 2019 OPS .923. So, according to my mythological math-making, he is due for a great season in 2021!
  16. Hindsight and all that, but Trea Turner and Matt Chapman were taken after Gordon in the draft that year.
  17. I think the whole thing with Dozier was that he came out of nowhere to become a very good major league player. The comparison with Gordon is odd in that Gordon is a #1 pick with a pedigree who was expected to star years ago but hasn't. The next Dozier will be someone like Arraez who wasn't predicted to become who he has become. Who is that player? I don't know.
  18. Masks required? Florida? I'd like to take a sample of how many mask wearers there are?
