  1. There is sure a lot of hypocrisy from Pro Athletes. Just a few months ago the NBA came down hard on the Houston Rockets GM for expressing support for Hong Kong protesters against the brutality of the Communist Chinese Regime crackdown in their town. LeBron James explained poorly why the NBA needed to appease China (real reason: for the profits they receive from the regime that sends a million Muslim Uighurs to concentration camps). Now all these leagues paint Black Lives Matter on the courts, fields etc. Selective wokeness. Let me just watch the game. Don’t pressure all your teammates into joining your cause. Do it on your own time like Curt Schilling and Drew Brees (and they get lambasted for comments on their own time). Play ball and let the legal system give a fair trial for the accused without people in the streets with torches calling (figuratively) to string up the offending cops or they’ll burn down the town. The parallels to To Kill a Mockingbird are chilling. The failure to see all the irony is overwhelming.
  2. I meant - WITH injuries. Nevertheless, I am perplexed at the lack of using any prospects. Last year, they went the Arraez
  3. Either injuries, here are some interesting things to ponder: 1. The Twins pick up Vargas on waivers rather than bring Nick Gordon (Royce Lewis or someone else) from CHS/St. Paul. 2. The Twins bring up Lamont Wade Jr rather than elevate Kiriloff, Larnach or Rooker. 3. (Less interesting) They pick up a veteran lefty rather than elevate another fro the CHS stable.
  4. Playoff rotation: 1. Maeda 2. Dobber 3. Berrios 4. Odo If the Twins use a 5th spot or if any of those listed pitchers falters, it will be a battle between Hill, Pineda, Smeltzer and Thorpe (in that descending order). There were reports that Berrios was tipping off batters on his change-up. If he corrects that, I expect improvement.
  5. They already slimmed them down. I say go back to the original two fat guys shaking hands across the River (no elbow bumps). This is not a Chief Wahoo thing that needs to be remedied. Bring back Skeetah for the race too. Get rid of Gracie the mutant goose
  6. The Twins are very deep - position players, as well as starting and relief pitching. Barring injuries, multiple bad performances, or a Covid problem, the Twins should go with the great team they have. Someone is considering replacing Cave with a prospect - have you been watching Cave so far in 2020?????
  7. Then again, ask yourself. How many persons close to you have tested positive for the virus. I know two who have tested negative. One of those was ME prior to elective surgery. The nurse at the office that tested me said they had two positive tests out of 600 people they tested (601 including me I guess). Nevertheless, MLB should have used the bubble method in 3 or 4 areas with two close ballparks (Chicago, NYC, Baltimore-Washington, Bay Area, L.A.).
  8. Then again, some players are injury-prone. Maybe in the end, Buxton will become the next Cal Ripken Jr type Iron Man. However, it is more likely that he is among those players who are perpetually injury prone. We’ve seen this movie before. He also plays outfield, a position where the Twins have a bevy of talent ready or almost ready to start. If he makes it through this short season as a star, then he should be NOT be untouchable and an offseason trade should be considered while his value is high. Nobody gets ripped much for suggesting Eddie Rosario should be traded. Buxton’s injury history is a legitimate reason for hiS name to be entered into the “trade an outfielder sometime” conversation.
  9. The Twins have assembled a great squad for this year. Absent injury or poor performance (by a player who cannot be replaced adequately on the depth chart), the Twins should avoid making trades.
  10. Good job Twins. But - Let’s hope there is no diversity of success on the field this year. Let’s hope our players are universally excellent and healthy. I am so pumped for baseball - let me out of the Covid Cage - Play Ball
  11. I still think Smeltzer looks like one of the Hanson Brothers from Slapshot.
  12. Buxton fragility is driving me CRAZY. He’s going to lose speed too as he ages. Twins should consider other options longterm in CF.
  13. Some sports stars have made the transition to Hollywood. It looks like Buxton will be replacing Samuel L Jackson as “Mr Glass” in a series of “Unbreakable” sequels entitled “Very Breakable”.

Who is our Joe Kapp? Josh Donaldson is a Joe Kapp type player, hard working leader. But he has been too much of a top of line star up till now. So, who is the everyday, gritty player/leader with a personality? Sergio Romo would be my nominee even though his position is not as much of a leadership position as Quarterback.

In 1970, the Vikings had a 40 man roster and played 60 minute games - their motto that year was "40 for 60 in 70", Since the M:B teams have a 60 man roster for the upcoming 60 day season in 2020, I suggest that the Twins adopt a motto for this year - "60 for 60 in 20". If you say, that doesn't include playoff games, I would counter that the 1970 Vikes didn't consider overtime.
  16. Signing Smoak would have left Sano on 3B, so the Twins would not have signed Donaldson. That might have worked out better in the long run since the Donaldson contract may be a liability in its latter years. Moreover, because of the virus, we get Josh for fewer games this year, when he is likely to be more productive. We could have left Sano at 3B for one more season and then moved him to 1B or DH in 2021.

  18. Every year the Twins have a player who didn’t plan ahead to obtain a Visa to play in the USA. With the short season and expanded rosters, I sure hope the Twins have been proactive in making sure that all potential players on the 30 and 60 man roster are ready to be here at the start of July Training or soon thereafter.
  19. Forget announcers, what will it take to have a woman PLAY in MLB Baseball. There are certain biological differences regarding strength and speed that some claim keep women from competing with the guys.Still, there have been many successful ball players who did not possess impressive physiques (starting with Wee Willie Keeler then later Tony Gwynn, Pete Vukovich, Bartlolo Colon ...). So here is my suggestion. Parents, take your daughters into the backyard to learn and master a nasty lknuckleball. Also work on their hitting - hand/eye coordination. Women have been shown to have better reaction times to men (that’s why some have been successful drag racers). This could help the right woman become a Major League caliber hitter. Once the right “first woman” is ready, there will be only one last thing to do. Have her talk to Tom Hanks before her first MLB game (just in case she didn’t know already).
  20. As long as the Twins never bring back the dance off, I’ll be back watching.
  21. Before people forget Calvin’s statue, I wondered if he really was that short. I’m not heartbroken over its removal, but the Twins should not ignore the history of the team in Washington. The Senators were mostly known for losing. Still, Bucky Harris, Goose Goslin, Sam Rice and “The Big Train” Walter Johnson won a suspenseful 1924 World Series with a 7th game rivaling anything in the Classic 1991 World Series. Check out the silent film news reel. The Griffith family, warts and all, was a big part of this history of our favorite baseball team - In DC and here. Somewhere, in a prominent display case in Target Field, the Senator’s history should be properly honored - mostly honoring it’s players, but a photograph of longtime owner Clark Griffith and his young son Calvin should be included.
  22. My favorite Post-Kirby Twins Centerfielder. Still would love to see Byron Buxton stay healthy and take that position away from Denard. I wouldn’t be surprised if Denard Span agreed with me. He’s that kind of a classy guy.
  23. I am into politics, a veritable news junkie, but I didn't have a clue that was a Blue Lives Matter mask. As much as it can be fun to level potshots at millionaire baseball players, I think we cut Max some slack on this one. Gutentag (is that how you spell it?)
