  1. I say NO to Kimbrel, especially a three year contract. He's 30 and likely moving to downside of his career. He's likely going to be shaking off some rust too. This team should look internally.
  2. I'm hopeful that the Twins can find something in their minor league system to bolster their bullpen. They need one more stud. Maybe Romero or Graterol can be that stud. I'm having having visions of Matt Capps in my nightmares,
  3. Many here wanted the Twins to take High School 2-way prospect Hunter Greene. Greene is on the DL (I won't change the word) and needs Tommy John Surgery. Hope Royce Lewis is the real deal.
  4. It has probably already been covered - But my question is whether Joe Cronin (promoted from Low A to High A) is somehow related to the Hall of Famer Joe Cronin? The older Joe Cronin played many years for our favorite organization when it was in Washington D.C.??? That Joe Cronin went on to be President of the American League until 1973 when he was succeeded by Lee MacPhail (father of former Twins GM Andy).
  5. The good teams find ways to come back to win more games than one would expect. The Twins seem to be doing that so far. Cleveland doesn’t look like a power team. I see them winning the division with 86 to 90 wins.
  6. Better to wait a day and hang out with the real fans at the second game. It’s better than joining the people who go to the opener and then ignore baseball the rest of the year.
  7. Frankly, I avoid the opener. It’s a day for amateur baseball fans. My tradition is to go to the second game (sometimes the third game). I’ll be there in the cold with the true, crazy fans willing to brave the elements. 35 degrees at game time.
  8. Maybe it's too counterintuitive, but Target Field seems to be built to reward pitch to contact pitchers who let good defensive outfielders chase down fly balls in the outfield and let good defenders make plays on ground balls in the infield. Yet in today's strike-out or "launch angle"/home run style of play, that type of thinking must be obsolete. I must also be a dinosaur when I think "just bunt around the shift" (especially lefties who have the entire left side of the infield open!) Stupid me.
  9. How is the competition for the first base job and backup looking right now between Cron, Austin and Camptown Races?
  10. Wow - the Ten Forgotten Free Agents says Carlos Gomez is available. Bring back Go go, but don't put him in the pen.
  11. If Gonsalves can add justs a little velocity (going from 89 mph to 91-92), he could be a factor. Otherwise, he is just another slo-mo lefty like Tommy Millone or at best Bruce Chen.
  12. They moved Romero to the pen and picked up Blake Parker. They have a number of extra arms ready to come to MLB if needed and worthy (Gonsalves, Stewart for example). This is NOT the year to go get a Fernando Rodney or Matt Belisle - type.. Let's see what this staff can do. We can bolster the pen and other parts of the team if the team proves itself worthy during the season. Add at the deadline if appropriate; otherwise run with what we have!
  13. The two HRs today for Astudillo is one more than Miguel Sano hit in 45 at bats during winter ball in the DR
  14. It's a Spring Training competition between Cron and Austin with Duda as a dark horse. But they may only be contending for the title of place-holder this year until someone else (Sano, Kepler . . . ) is placed at !B
  15. The Twins only need one of the current Top Three OF NOT to produce to open up a place for Kiriloff. Or maybe Kiriloff suddenly hits a wall at a higher level of the minors. The best cases senario is for the Twins to have the "problem" of all four plus a few others (Wade?) producing and creating depth and trade opportunities. The same goes for Royce Lewis and Wander Javier, except there is also an option of moving Sano (if he removces his question mark) to 1B and have either Lewis, Javier or Polanco play 3B.
  16. Big Problem with No DH - When the good pitcher must bat early in a game to continue pitching, but buzzkills that inning with runners on base. Biggest problems with the DH - reduces strategy, especially in later innings. And extends many innings when no runners are on base (causing games to be longer). Solution? The Strategic DH Rule- 1. Each team, prior to the game, DESIGNATES one bench player to be its DH. 2. The DH can be used in the ninth batter spot once during in the first 6 innings. The batter in that spot (presumably the pitcher) will be allowed to remain in the game. 3. Nine at-bats after the DH has been used in those first 6 innings, or if the DH has not taken that at-bat within the first six innings - then the DH may be used in the 8th inning and beyond like any other bench player (in the field, as a pinch hitter/runner, etc.) (Why no use in the 7th inning? In order to encourage managers to delay use of the DH until the optimal time offensively in the first 6 innings - it would be boring if analytics somehow encouraged managers to use the Strategic DH always at the first opportunity) - This rule adds strategy to the game regarding when and how to use the DH. It reduces the number of rally-killing at-bats by pitchers It provides a place for the late in career Jim Thome types that fans would love to see bat once or twice in a game. Before you hate on this, think of how to tweak it. It's all about reducing boring pitcher at-bats in early innings, while increasing managerial strategy (hopefully in an way that is analytics-proof)..
  17. Let's get rid of the following phrases and words: Doink, middle in, good piece of hitting, trying to do too much . . .
  18. A.J. Piezynski! I know he's an analyst on FS1 Games already. Maybe he would want to do a few games or many games for his former team. Paraphrasing Ozzie Guillen:: When he's another team's color commentator, you hate him - When he's our team's color commentator, you hate him less!!!!!!
