  1. while personally I prefer the DH... I know a lot of fans that don't. I think the premise is largely accurate, but I could also see there being unhappy fans... I for one, still don't like interleague play. That isn't a show stopper for me and baseball, but I do think there's value to having slightly different rules across the leagues.
  2. This is what I don't understand... why not just continue with Park rules? Players are used to playing in those circumstances... They do it every year... the only difference is needing to do it slightly more.
  3. I really wonder if given the extremes of the situation that it would be smart to do a one time revenue sharing pool and just split everything in that capacity. I know the owners wouldn't like it, especially the bigger markets with revenue to lose, but this could be the difference between baseball and no baseball, and potentially a way to reach new audiences... I would think at the end of the day that having a season this summer (especially when they aren't sharing with anyone else) should be a huge priority... and given everyone being shut in, far more likely to be on TV... which I'd argue has some long term strategic impact. Right now, I suspect people who wouldn't normally watch baseball would be quite willing to watch it.
  4. I like the Jeter pick... In general anyone on the White Sox... In football, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.
  5. I think park rules would be fine on DH... has baseball announced a univeral DH? That said, I think what will upset fans more than anything is if these changes are permanent
  6. I suppose they'd never get it done right.. might be one of those competitive balance things to keep it interesting??? I don't know. My only hope is that this is just a 2020 thing.
  7. If it's one time thing, I woudln't be too concerned about the structural alignment. That has more to do with controlling costs and travel time so as to maximize games played... guessing you're going to see a lot of double headers.
  8. heh... Cuellar teaching Johann his changeup was definitely worth it.
  9. I think Santana's biggest problem is going to be sheer volume of quality names on the ballot presently. This is an interesting case... I do tend to agree that there are a LOT of players who had HOF caliber seasons for a short span... not sure they belong.
  10. I cannot help but notice it's all younger players... not sure I'd call it "unlucky" at this point... more like a skill or skills not quite being utilized.
  11. I'm saying that no one would do what is currently being done over the flu if it were to outbreak... Use some common sense, but if that's the litmus, then you may as well shut down all schools, all professional sports... well everything... forever... just hole up in your cave, because outbreaks like this happen every single year multiple times. No one knows where it ends.. yeah, I get that. We do have pretty good data now on how contagious it is and how dangerous it actually is... and it's nor more dangerous than the flu. We aren't even talking measles or something like that.
  12. you know, this virus has lower mortality rates in first world nations than the flu. No one would do this for the flu. Not saying don't be careful, but the level of panic here is not warranted.
  13. yeah, if all he said was "maybe" I think there's way too much tone being read into it...
  14. I would certainly extend Buxton, but given his ability to stay on the field, I'm guessing the gap between what a healthy Buxton should make and what the team will offer is likely going to end that conversation. I would not extend Rosario, as I think year to year is the right option for him. I would look at a couple of our relievers such as May and Duffey. I'd consider Littell next year, though I could see some wisdom in doing it this year if they think last year was for real.
  15. Yes... and that's a good thing... I'd add that by yes I imply that a prospect needs to force his way on to the roster, which is the way it should be on a winning team. Larnach and Lewis need time. They aren't even on the 40 man yet, so there's no reason to rush them given the situation on the MLB roster... but guys like Poppen, Dobnak, Arraez, and Smeltzer all got chances. Each one of them earned those chances. We lost a lot of service time rushing guys (Buxton in particular comes to mind). If this team wants to have sustainable success, we need to get beyond that.
  16. every team needs a player like Marwin on the roster... A guy who can play multiple positions well and essentially provide a league average bat is far more valuable than whatever WAR metric they accumulate.
  17. yeah, at this point at the very least they should be in the ALCS... another sweep would make me start thinking they've taken on the Vikings' curse... But to Chief point, success = WS or bust.
  18. The Twins should be swapping a young arm for an established arm. They should not be swapping young arms for position players. They need more arms, not less.
  19. I don't think I'd rank them at the top personally. Lineup might be the best in baseball. Last year we were really nervous about the pen, and while it looks like we may have found some good ones, the fickle nature of relievers tells me that this could come back. And we should be nervous about the rotation...
  20. Thank you!!!!! I think Rosario gets penalized by defensive metrics as he's on the field when Buxton and Kepler are there too… Someone gets hurt in that scenario, and unfairly so. If you want some proof of that, just look at how much better Rosario was in 2018 when Buxton was hurt/in the minors. Rosario is not a gold glover, but he has good range and speed and a cannon for an arm. That's more than you'll get out of Cave... and as soon as you plug Cave into that spot, suddenly his defensive metrics drop because defensive metrics aren't all that good. Is Cave potentially a replacement for Rosario? Possibly... especially if he continues to take steps forward in 2020. But as it is, he's an excellent 4th OF right now, and since our best OF spends lots of time on the IL, it's good to have a guy like Cave sitting around.
  21. I'll give a brief summary of what I said on the same topic in the baseball forum... Baseball has a competitive balance problem... and a big one. This doesn't fix that. And until players realize that the 350M contracts need to come to an end and that 3 teams cannot print money anymore, baseball's problems won't be going away.
  22. I'm not sure this qualifies as Maeda speaking publicly. His agent is doing so, that's for sure. That's also his agents job. He voiced his concerns to his agent (which he should) who passed it on to LA.
