  1. spring stats don't matter much, but they most certainly do for people on the bubble trying to make the team. I don't see a grand conspiracy here. AK didn't look good and he's going to need to improve. His competition looked a lot better. He'll be here soon enough, but I wouldn't lose much sleep about him starting in AAA until he gets the ship going in the right direction.
  2. I missed something, wasn't the 4th option already decided or did I misread something?
  3. I think they do it if they can. Like others, I'll be a bit surprised, but given the nature of contracts it's quite possible his agent is telling him to be smart here given how much he's been hurt. I think you can safely say that a Buxton contract won't hamstring the team quite like Mauer did or like Donaldson could be... so yeah, do it.
  4. I think you park him in AAA. Like someone else said, Cruz doesn't play here forever. I wouldn't be against shopping Cave, but there's some surplus value there that teams like us cannot afford to lose. I'd also add that Rooker has a K issue for his entire minor league career. He does show the ability to adjust over a prolonged period of time, but I suspect that his first full time stint in the majors will likely be rough. I'm perfectly fine letting him sit in AAA where he work on things like laying off pitches.
  5. that's fair, but I don't think 2020 answered the questions we had about him when we acquired him given that it was a shortened season.
  6. fans should be cranky about 0-18... it's embarrassing. Admittedly this FO only holds 1/3 of those losses, but at some point, this is a monkey that needs to be off our back, and sadly, just one win will do it. My big concern though is that this team doesn't have that ace pitcher to go up against the other team's ace, making that first game very difficult to pull off... and of course once that loss sets in, all the old narratives come back no matter how hard the FO tries to bring in people to get rid of them. as for make or break, I doubt it, but another 0fer showing should require some accountability across the org. Playoffs may be a crap shoot, but we're well beyond crap shoot numbers. 0-18 speaks to something, and it's not good.
  7. win for both sides.. not sure 2020 answered the questions about Maeda's longetivity given that it was a shortened season... No complaints on our end thus far, but like the OP said, let's wait 3 years.
  8. 87 was a different era though... That's probably my big complaint in comparing Tortuga to guys on the 87 Twins. The question I'd ask is whether or not he compares favorably to players on WS teams over the last 5-10 years.
  9. I guess where I stand is that while I understand that he can hit anything he swings at, he has to learn to not swing at stuff that he cannot hit well. That will do more to keep him in the big leagues than any of the personal stuff about him that myself and everyone else greatly enjoys. Like a few others here, as the occasional depth piece, why not? But getting a large number of at bats for a contending team is not a good thing unless he managed to catch some lightening. His defense is already suspect, and his bat isn't good enough to make up for that... so other than the occasional spot start or pinch hitting opportunities, I hope we don't see a ton of him unless he finds that lightening.
  10. So Colome provides evidence of the God particle of modern stats? I like the signing. Cannot complain on the contract/price... would like another starter though.
  11. I'd have thought they would have adjusted in season... it's not like that 80% rate would have been evident at some point... I haven't seen the pitch, but is this pitch one where hitters are looking for it and still cannot hit it?
  12. only ones I'm not keen on keeping would be Odorizzi, Adrianza, and Avila. The rest I'd want back if possible. Marwin wasn't great for us, but his flexibility is quite valuable and he's young enough that he could be a good bounce back candidate.
  13. I suspect Rosario is non-tendered or traded as there are potential replacements in house. I like him as a player, but he's a bit too boom or bust on a team that has way too many boom/bust type players. Rodgers probably stays as he's a bounce back candidate... even at that cost.
  14. while I'm high on Rooker, I don't think his 19 MLB at bats outweighs his minor league career. If you're concerned about streaky hitters, replacing a guy like Sano with Rooker will likely not yield better results. I'd rather get a bit more data on Rooker before I rely on him... As for Sano, I think we're going to have to do some moving around, like it or not. I'm not sure a lineup stacked with boom or bust types is going to get us much more than the elusive play off win, much less a world series. So for the right offer, I'd probably move him... it would have to be a good offer though.
  15. I understand a trend, but balls and strikes is one technology can fix and one that quite frankly will end the frustration that a lot of fans have. It's a game integrity issue. Perhaps it changes the outcome, perhaps not. We don't know, but the idea that it shoudln't be fixed is preposterous in my opinion.
  16. If he wants to come back, he should stay. He's not the problem on this team. I'm fine going a year to year until he shows he's done.
  17. Cruz should absolutely return... he DHs until he proves he cannot. Sano can stay on first.
  18. for the right price sure... not sure his contract situation... and 4 games is a bit of a small sample. Like others, I doubt we see much in terms of block buster trades... Bundy has too many question marks to fetch an exorbitant price, but if the price was right, I'd get him.
  19. definitely a baseball diamond on the tv... if video isn't allowed, that's a violation.. whether they were cheating or not.
  20. it certainly worked out for Houston. Hopefully it does for us too and at the end of the day we can say that this was a trade that ultimately benefited both teams... I guess the real question is whether or not Pressley would have helped us advance in 2019... I don't think we beat the Yankees with him, but I do wonder if we had a better seed and didnt' have to play them due to a better seed.
  21. We're 9-2 and already have a decent lead after playing one of our harder stretches... I'm liking the way this season is shaping up... Hopefully, we can get Buxton, Sano, Garver, and Donaldson on track...
