  1. No. That's the only answer to this premise. He's the best CF in baseball. His bat is still good at a DH, but you lose a crap ton of value with him not in the field. The team needs to figure out how to keep him healthy, and that is not going to be done by wrapping him in bubble wrap.
  2. It's worth noting that Donaldson is not the only member of last year's team missing this season.
  3. the deal didn't look that bad in my opinion without the ptbnl. I didn't realize there's one there, but I like it more now that I see that. We're kind of top heavy in the farm right now, so a non roster player with some talent in the lower minors would be really nice.
  4. It's interesting that the FO went with two bats that had success in the past. I'm guessing they saw something they thought was fixable. I hope that's the case, because that's the only way this trade works. No question Donaldson/Garver were better (when healthy). I realize health matters, which is important, but simply getting a healthy, higher floor, isn't going to make up the win totals we need to make a solid post season run.
  5. Some of the "ifs" will pan out. Some won't unfortunately. That's how it works. I tend to agree. Way too much uncertainty. That's what bothers me about the new CBA. For teams like the Twins, the only way they can win it is with the "ifs" all lining up.
  6. One thing that is clear is that this FO is going to hang on to players past their prime while they still have value. You saw that with Cruz. We got to witness it again with Donaldson and Garver. Ultimately, I'm not sure how much I like what they've done so far. This is not looking good from where I stand. Perhaps they go out and get Story and then get one of the A's pitchers, who knows. But even then, their depth is looking shaky with a lot of counting on guys like Jeffers and Miranda.
  7. From the looks of it, we're a lot worse right now than we were last year. Not good for a team that supposedly has a window. I get that they aren't done... but I'd like to see the rest I guess. They must really believe in Miranda. I get that Donaldson had trouble staying on the field, which is a big part of why he's gone, but so far this we're looking weaker.
  8. while I agree with that, I haven't forgotten 1994. Neither have the owners... and I suspect the same thing would have happened this year as well. But yes, you're correct, it's a lockout, not a strike and people should use the correct terminology.
  9. while I don't think everything analytics brought to baseball has been good for the sport, I'd rather be on the lead of that change effort than chasing it like the Twins did.
  10. My bad, I misunderstood you. Me personally, no. I don't think Cousins is the answer (at least for the price). If he wants to stay and takes a salary between 15-20M, I'd probably keep him and use the difference to get help on the OL, since he's definitely dependent on good pass blocking. But beyond that, no. I want a ring more than a division title personally (yes, I realize that one makes it easier to get the other). Cousins can get you that if he's got top notch supporting cast, but that something he's never had here and it's something pretty hard to build from a QB making 35M/season. Personally, I'm of the opinion that we trade Cousins (as I think we get at least a 1st for him, especially if we ask for a 2023 first) and let Mond have a shot in 2022. I'd trade off anyone nearing the end (Smith, Theilen, etc) for 2023 picks as well if I could and use 2022 to draft higher ceiling development types/bolster solid play out of core positions on the lines. If Mond fails, we're likely drafting pretty high in 2023 with capital to move.
  11. It's kind of a moot point, Rodgers would never be traded within the division. The Packers bent over backwards to make sure Favre didn't leave GB to end up in Minnesota. I don't see that changing. And to the other point, we're more than a QB away at this point. We need some more strategic restructuring and I don't think trading away more capital for a year or two of Rodgers will help.
  12. Here's to hoping you're wrong At least the Wilfs are saying the right thing in this regard... I've commented elsewhere that I want a HC focused on being an HC and to hire the best coordinators out there. No problems with an offensive minded coach doing some planning with his/her OC, but I expect that coach to let the OC do their thing... same on defense if it's a defensive minded coordinator.
  13. Minnesota. They would rightfully want more than just Mayfield.
  14. that was my first thought. Good return, fans forget. We're pretty deep in the infield right now. It's a position of strength, and well Arraez is well liked (deservedly so) from a business standpoint, you make a trade if it makes sense.
  15. I would like to know how it is he can go from a Ruthian type performance to struggling to hit the Mendoza line. I realize there's an adjustment game and what not, but I would think by now he's seen enough MLB pitching to be more consistent.
  16. The problem as I see it is that neither side wants to end the competitive imbalance that currently exists. That, to me at least, poses a bigger problem as fans (rightly so) don't want to hear the bickering between either side... My fear is that this quite possibly the end of MLB... even if a new CBA is reached, I don't see how small market teams are going to be given a better shot at competing.
  17. I'd be curious what the consensus is for an ace pitcher... I assume top 10 MLB starter in pretty much every metric that counts. I'm not against overpaying for one for the record... That said, I doubt we see baseball in 2022, so it probably doesn't matter.
  18. I do not understand why people want to pay him astronomical sums of cash. He's barely on the field. He was having a monster year in 27 games, I'll admit that, but many players can do that in a small sample. Outside of that, he's been a good hitter in that he can maintain an .800 OPS and of course an elite defender when he's on the field... the problem is that he's never on the field. No team is going to throw that kind of cash on him given he's more likely to spend the season on the DL than he is on the field.
