  1. Good to see Bryan Sammons toss a solid game after some rough outings. The FSL South race is fun to watch right now. The Miracle hanging on to first place by the thinnest of margins over those pesky Charlotte Stone Crabs. I think they can pull this off with like 15 games remaining. Obviously, the everyday lineup is solid. The key will be the starting pitching down the stretch. Barnes, Graterol and Jax appear to be giving them consistent starts. Need Sammons, Cutura and Beeker to also pitch well the next couple weeks. Ryan Mason and Jovani Moran have been good out of the bullpen. Should be fun!
  2. I'd hang on to Forsythe till the end of the end of the year and not trade him. Evaluate how he does the remainder of this season and, more importantly, evaluate how you think Gordon fits in for 2019 and beyond. Then if a second base bridge is needed you can circle back to Logan and see if a short term deal can be worked out at a decent price.
  3. Thanks for the correction! Didn't look deep enough at the MWL playoff procedures. Eight teams make the playoffs not four
  4. Okay, here's my take on the playoff possibilities of all the Twins affiliates. Correct me if I'm wrong on anything... First, the top two affiliates - Rochester and Chattanooga - appear to be out of luck for a post-season appearance this year. In High-A, the Miracle pulled to within a half game of the FSL South second half leaders Charlotte Stone Crabs with a win this evening. Can take over 1st place with a win tomorrow (Thursday). In Low-A, the Kernels remain in a virtual first place tie with the Peoria Chiefs after the suspended game. Correction: Quad Cities and Peoria qualified for the MWL West playoffs in the first half. The Kernels currently lead the Beloit Snappers by 2 games, the Kane County Cougars by 4 games and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by 4.5 games. The top two teams of these four will make the playoffs for the second half. In Appy Rookie Ball, the Elizabethton Twins are 5.5 games clear of the third place Bristol Pirates for a playoff spot. The Twins and 2nd place Kingsport Mets (2.5 GB) would make the playoffs if the season ended today. The GCL Twins find themselves 1 game back of the GCL Red Sox for the GCL South title. Sound about right?
  5. Oooh...think I'd have to go with Graterol edging out Thorpe for pitcher of the day, but that's just me.
  6. Great stuff, Seth! Have to laugh when Deron Johnson says "We got a lot of looks at him". Was waiting for him to say "Never saw the kid play. Not once. Heard about him so we just decided to take a flyer". LOL
  7. My goodness, you know who's quietly having a very solid season - Jaylin Davis. Look at these numbers (since 6/22 when promoted to double-A): Slashing .304/.366/.464 (.830) wOBA .373 wRC+ 133 BB% (7.0) and K% (24.2) could stand to improve by a bit and his BABIP of .392 could indicate some regression, but still, some good production at the plate. BTW, his K% at double-A Chattanooga is the best of his professional career and has gone down each and every year from a high of 44% at E-Town in 2016. I only say "quietly having a very solid season" because he rarely gets mentioned in the same breath as the top hitting prospects in the org, but that may change here soon if this keeps up.
  8. Arraez, Stashak and Wells are definitely guys I would put on my possible AFL list. Here's a sneaky pick...Sean Poppen.
  9. Would love to see Lewis, Kirilloff, Larnach and Jeffers all on the same affiliate at some point! Talk about mashing the ball around. Was hoping Rooker too...but I think he'll always be a step ahead of the others.
  10. Tough day for Chattanooga SS Jordan Gore in the field. A throwing error in the 1st led to two unearned runs charged against Alcala. Then a fielding error later led to an unearned run for Sam Clay. Just one of those days, I guess. Hopefully got the miscues out of his system and is ready to go in the next game.
  11. Thanks for the playoff updates, Tom. Nice to know where the clubs are sitting as we head down the home stretch.
  12. Yes, we can be somewhat disappointed that's it's Stewart that got the call over a Romero, Gonsalves, etc... But at least the Twins didn't comb the waiver wire for a spot starter like Adam Wilk, Chris Heston or Tim Melville. Stayed in house this time which is good
  13. Michael Helman. Nice 11th round draft pick from the looks of it. Slashed a cool .375/.435/.575 in rookie ball and is now not missing a beat with the Kernels. From what I understand the Twins used a lot of TrackMan analytics on Helman before making the draft pick. Melded the visual scouting with many data points. So far, it appears money well spent.
  14. Correct. At the very least you're not going to see Lewis start out with the Twins on an opening day. He'll get the Kris Bryant treatment of a dozen days or so in the minors to make sure he doesn't get that first year of service time. Then it's just a matter of if the Twins hold him back till June to avoid the super-2 cutoff.
  15. Has Scott Boras even done this type of thing before? Buying out arb years and extending into FA?
  16. Great stuff, Seth! I'm going to guess we see Royce in June 2020 once the super-2 service time is taken care of. Any idea when he most likely would make an appearance in the Arizona Fall League? After this season or after 2019? None at all?
  17. Casey Mize Larry Mize Three Blind Mize. Didn't really matter who was on the bump pitching to the Miracle lineup on this particular evening. They were going to get drilled. Relentlessly.
  18. Starting to wonder if the Twins might need to get Bryan Sammons back to Rapids. Has really struggled in his three starts to the tune of a 12.50 ERA. Tyler Watson had some issues also after his promotion to the Miracle and was eventually sent back to the Kernels. Sammons was pitching so well in the Midwest League too, so I'm kind of surprised that he would get knocked around like this. At least to this point.
  19. Will be interesting to see how Miranda fits into the 2B/3B rotation down at the Fort. Already have Costello, Blankenhorn, Perez and even Caleb Hamilton at times manning either the hot corner or second base, At least Blankenhorn can play all over - 3B, 2B, LF, DH. Costello can play some first base as well as 3B. Bottom line - if Miranda is going to get promoted it would be ideal for him to play most days.
  20. Heck of a season by Moran. Vasquez and Moran - a couple of nice lefty relievers to look forward to in the years to come if they can continue to develop and rise through the system.
  21. Yes, I think Rortvedt will be find with the bat...he's still young. But I can't help think what it would be like to combine Rortvedt's defensive savvy with Jeffers' offensive prowess.
