Hey, one of your promotion suggestions already came true! Blayne Enlow heading to Fort Myers in the morning. Agree with your take on Lewin Diaz. Problem is, he plays 1B and Kirilloff has been playing 1B at Pensacola, I guess Diaz could DH some but that seems like a waste since he's a decent first baseman.

Regarding Alcala's unearned runs... Always thought that if a pitcher commits an error that leads to runs they should be earned. I mean, it's your own fault right? Wear those earned runs.

Agree. Look at someone like Travis Blankenhorn....struggled quite a bit after the FSL all-star break last season. Heads up to AA this year and is absolutely raking. Could see Royce getting promoted to AA in a month or two and really take off.

Article: Let’s Talk About Byron Buxton’s Swing
nater79a replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In the first clip I noticed how Buxton's right shoulder and elbow really dropped (previously) as opposed to how it is now - stays more level. Is this a separate change from the three specific things you discussed, or is it related to the stretch point? -
Just noticed the listing of Wander Javier with an injured quad. Man, it always seems to be something with him. Realize he's still very young but missed all of last year and is struggling to get on the field this year too. Needs to start playing some games to continue his development.

Article: Finer Points: Rule 5
nater79a replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Referring back to a previous Finer Points article and considering Misael Urbina's age, is he a decent bet to qualify for a 4th option at some point?- 30 replies

Wade is on the 40-man and Raley is not, so that complicates things. But yes, Raley is playing quite well right now.

Randy Dobnak couldn't quite get the Twins Daily minor starting pitcher of the month for April, finishing at #4. Looks like he's making another run at it for May.

Is it just me or does there seem to be an inordinate amount of weather related postponements across the Twins affiliates this season? I realize there are always a decent amount during a typical year but this seems much higher than normal.

Seth - Let's say the Twins wanted to take it a little slow with Graterol. Who do you see as the next logical candidate besides Brusdar to move up from the Blue Wahoos to the Wings in the next month or so....Alcala, Jax or Poppen? Griffen Jax has been lights out but has spent all of 6 games in a double-A rotation. Jorge Alcala has spent the most time at AA (20+ games) between Houston and MInnesota but his pitching has been a little uneven at times. Sean Poppen has been pretty good but his walk rate has been a tad high so far (14 in 19 innings). He also has plenty of AA experience + a spot start with he Wings earlier this season. What'ya think?

Must say I wasn't initially impressed with the return (Forsythe/Raley/Smeltzer) in the Dozier trade to the Dodgers last summer. Happy to say that the production of Raley and Smeltzer early this year is changing my mind in a big way.

Wiel has really just gotten hot the last 4 or 5 games or so. Up until then he was slashing .190/.262/.448. Showed some power early but the K% was hovering around 37%. He's been raking recently.

Congrats to Trey! Hope he rakes with the Miracle. Looking forward to the starting pitcher of the month. You've got names like Ober, Dobnak, Smeltzer, Sammons....throw in a little Graterol and Jax and Poppen. And did I mention Balazovic? Going to be a slightly tougher decision than hitter of the month.

Was thinking the same here. Remember, this time last season the Twins were in the midst of losing 11 of 12 games. Also, Buxton fouled that ball off his toe in rehab so that added some drama. Agree that the posters come out a bit more when negative things are happening than when things are going well.

Think Jax sits at 92-93 but can bring it at 95 if he needs to. Yeah, he's not a big strikeout guy but he has a lot of other positives that offset that. Very good control, HR rates that are almost miniscule (Monday's homer notwithstanding), and a ground ball rate north of 50% throughout his pro career.

Good stuff as always, Steve! Didn't Trey start out his career (or maybe his second year) with some type of injury that limited his playing time? Seem to remember something with his back. No doubt that hindered his early development a bit. Obviously doing well now though.

Bryan Sammons was an 8th round pick of the Twins two years ago out of Western Carolina University. He's a big kid...a 6-4 230lb lefty. He had a very solid season for the Kernels last year (2.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) before struggling a bit with Fort Myers after a late season promotion. Doesn't throw overly hard but has the complete 4-pitch mix. Good to see him starting off well with the Miracle this season!

Cole Sands...Florida State product. Seems like there's been a dearth of FSU players to suit up for the Twins over the years. Sort of a trivia question for you all...who has been the most notable FSU alum to play for the Twins?? (And no, it's not Sugar Shane Robinson or Paul Sorrento!)

Not on this particular list.....but how do we pronounce Zander Wiel's last name? Is it like "wheel" or "while"? Heard it both ways. Dick and Bert and Dazzle were all over the map on this during spring training.
