  1. 1. Hughes: the contract. 2. After having Allen working with Berrios on his windup IN the MLB at the end of last season, I think being with the Twins and Allen in Spring Training is more important to Berrios career than playing in the WBC. Then again, I can't hardly criticizes Berrios too much for wanting to play in the WBC. The excitement in that series is intoxicating!
  2. Not sure that Chargois is a big pressure guy. If I remember correctly, when he was called up last year he had a terrible start, but righted himself. If Spring Training was longer or JT had more chances, would he have righted himself again?
  3. Tonkin gone. Please. Vargas sealed his fate when he signed on with Pueto Rico and sat on the bench. Same with Berrios. He REALLY should have been in the Twins camp. Last year, Park had issues with MLB pitching, which was to be expected. He also had an injury. Healthy again and with some MLB experience, he looks to me to be the sole DH/1st base option. Grossman as the left-handed alternative. Isn't it time to move on from DanSan? He had one really good year filling in at CF. Next year, management decided to start him at SS. Bad management? IDK, but as others have said, Twins need some defensive improvements. Castro signing will prove to be a huge benefit to the pitchers.
  4. I really liked the little I saw in Pressly this spring. He's shortened up his delivery some and was quicker to the plate. I see him taking over the closer role and Kintzler getting traded, hopefully after a repeat of last years success. I know, sounds counter-intuitive, but that's how I roll: Look towards the future and quit dragging it out with guys like Hughes and Gibson. If Santiago needs more innings, fine. But I don't see him as part of the future, either. I'm with you on Duffey, too.
  5. With his potential flexibility, I can see Haley having a role IF it's deemed that 1 or 2 of the younger guys need more MiLB time. And, yeah, I'm staring right at Berrios. He needed to be getting innings with the Twins, not riding the bench with Puerto Rico. Just my humble opinion, of course.
  6. "a bunch of other talent in the form of Brian Dozier,...." Wow, Dozier in the "other" group. Ballsy!! LOL I'm very curious to see how Falvey and Levine work the starting pitching. I'll also be very interested in seeing Jim Pohlad's reaction if they ask him for big money to pursue a free agent pitcher. My guess the only thing we'll see this season is a parade of MiLB plays getting THE CALL. I'd find it fairly hard to believe Falvey and Levine would just sit still in a season that have low expectations by many.
  7. LEN3 posted an article about Jay this morning. What it's really all about is: 1. Innings 2. Fast Track to MLB Not enough of the first, Fast Track = RP. And, there's also this [from the article]: "There's another lefthander in camp who is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, and the process has been meticulously slow. His last outing, he touched 78 mph on the gun. There is no telling when he will be able to help the Twins. He's in the last year of his contract, making 2017 possibly his swan song." So, I guess it's really about 3 things..... http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/Twins_Insider/
  8. Do I have this right: Slegers is 24 yrs old and in High A-ball? The other thing is his fastball, and I kinda have this beef with anyone that is as big as Slegers: 6'10" 245lbs and his fastball sits around only 90-92? Someone, somewhere should be teaching these guys how to take advantage of what they've got physically. Watched a couple videos of Slegers: motion looks pretty good and safe. Time for him to bump it up and make 94 the norm.
  9. Buxton has the speed, no question. I also think there are better options for leadoff hitter. Buxton's getting better, no question. At this point of the year, I'd rather see that OB% guy in front of him.
  10. Yeah, I was really hoping at least one young pitcher would be on the staff.
  11. "To Castro, “framing” sounds intentionally misleading -- like an act on a little league field where a youth catcher tries to yank a ball that crosses over the empty batter’s box back over the plate, hoping the high school-aged umpire who gets paid hourly has a momentary lapse of judgement." Same here!
  12. Last season, Park was probably pushing too hard to prove he belonged in the MLB. I think he get's the call. I don't know what they'll do with Vargas. I'd probably give him the opportunity to catch on with another team.
  13. Gibson's new training program: http://i.makeagif.com/media/4-01-2015/mOQdBK.gif BTW: He looked very good yesterday. If he keeps that up, he could have a breakout season.
  14. From that article [called How to Break Pitchers] I get what you're saying. "Breaking in pitchers as relievers worked when the jobs were closer in their practice than they are today. Now, teams don't roster swingmen or long relievers." "Back in '65, when Weaver broke in Palmer, there were 454 relief appearances in which a pitcher threw at least 3 1/3 innings." I can't say what the Twins original plan was when they moved May to the bullpen, other than they wanted a guy with a big fastball in the pen. If May had been used more as the Long Relievers of yore [or Juan Berenguer] he would have been more "stretched out", so to speak. Throwing harder [and more frequently] than he had previously as a starter in MiLB exacerbated his back problem and probably the cause of the torn ulnar collateral ligament.
  15. If the starting rotation starts with Santana, Santiago, Gibson and Hughes, then choose from one of the young guys: Berrios, Duffey or Mejia. I also think, of the last 3 already mention for the rotation, at least one of them should go. I don't really agree with the resigning of both Santiago and Gibson. At some point, you have to move on with youth.
  16. Ah, my young padawan: Much to learn, have you. I see not mention of beer.
  17. Overall, I'm liking what I'm hearing from and about May. I hope the Twins monitor his back issues closely so it doesn't become a 'thing' again. D. Santana: hasn't this been kinda typical for him?
  18. “Bonds told me just try to hit hard ground balls, hit the ball through the pitcher’s forehead,” To do that, aren't you actually applying the "lift" theory? If Kepler hit's like he's projected too, he'll be pretty OK.
  19. Got to watch a couple of these guys play on TV: Jorge and Mejia. Jorge was about what I expected: heck of an arm, but a bit wild. And he needs some fielding work. He booted a bunt. Mejia looked like an 'all arm' guy. He could use his size to better advantage.
  20. I don't get all the preseason games, so missed Gimenez playing. Still pretty sad that Murphy isn't panning out. Voglesong? Watched him throw Saturday. Based ONLY on that, he wouldn't make the roster. Rather go with Ogie Oglethorpe. Still not sure about Polanco at SS. Liked Sano's big game the other day. So, I'm guessing out of the gate, the Twins [excluding the OF] will go with a more veteran team. When do you think management will start working in more of the younger players into the lineup and starting rotation? The only SP's I'm likely to keep around are Santana and May.
  21. Curious, who do you see as the backup catcher when the season starts?
  22. MiLB seems to be the best spot. Get the players early in their development.
  23. Excuse me if I giggle just a little bit: A high spending team not winning it all somehow warms the cockles of my cold, dead heart.
