  1. I would say, nothing is impossible. Different people recover differently from concussions. It would be exciting to see the ol' Joe back!
  2. At what point did the narrative change from De Leon + Alvarez to just De Leon? As of yesterday, DaveW is still reporting the deal on the table is De Leon + Alvarez. Other than the initial timing of the trade, he seems to be pretty spot on. Any trade of Dozier should include at least a MLB pitching candidate and a couple more for the MiLB pot.
  3. sigh....... One more time. Maybe http://www.startribune.com/phil-miller-s-sunday-insider-red-sox-show-how-patience-with-prospects-can-be-rewarded/383534181/
  4. Hey Dave, when you say "DeLeon and Alvarez are on the table" is that individually [either, or] or both for Dozier? Just want to clarify....
  5. Development/progress will the be key this year. Buxton [working Tom Brunansky] started to turn the corner. I'm very disappointed that he didn't followup the year by playing in Winter Ball. Grossman: a slow-footed OF with a weak arm playing in LF. A position where he has to turn a 180 to reach a ball into the corner an heave the ball to 2nd. How could that possibly work out? Yes, the Twins need much more OBP. Just don't believe that makes up for his defense. There must be better alternatives... No? Kepler: Not worried. MLB pitching caught up with him. Adjust. Rosario: Sophomore slump much? Same as Kepler. D. Santana: He played 6 different positions. That's all I got. Despite his speed, his base running was awful. No doubt here that Falvey and Levine will be making a change.
  6. From MLBTR: TODAY: St. Louis is not “actively” working to acquire Dozier, per ESPN.com’s Mark Saxon (via Twitter). http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/cardinals-brian-dozier-trade-rumors-nationals-twins.html So, it appears DaveW was right. Again.
  7. I wonder what it would take to pry JD Martinez away from Detroit. I think he'd be a great addition to a young, building team. Unless, of course, he's a total jerk.....
  8. Firstly, I think it important to note that the Twins were late to the game because Falvey & Co. were still still in the process of building the business and baseball related orgs. Discussions were most certainly going on, but focus seemed to be on the organization first. Secondly, I don't remember reading that the Twins actually requested Bellinger. I think that was part of a TD fantasy discussion. And I'm betting the Falvey was also talking to many other teams. But none of them have the luster of the LA Dodgers. Thirdly, a prospect is a prospect until they're not. It's a crap shoot. Dodgers have a pretty good record of developing players; the Twins do not. Finally: Tom Petty's "The Waiting" is one of the whiniest songs I've ever heard. Hurts my ears. American Girl! One of the Best Ever!!!
  9. Seems very similar to Berrios's MLB start with the Twins. With the exception of a great 1st game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't give much credence to 1st year pitching stats. Far different class of hitters. Now, if same pitchers are really really good, I credence ALL DAY LONG!!
  10. The thing that disturbed me the most about Berrios is the Twins staff felt the need to completely re-do his windup. I mean, yes, there is a learning curve from MiLB to MLB. But, shouldn't this have been detected in the MiLB? Gonsalves: from the little I've seen of video clips, he could use another couple MPH on his fastball. 75% of a Greg Maddox is OK? Haven't seen anything of Jay or Romero. Haven't seen much of either. For both: I'd wait another year before judging either too harshly. We seem to have had a pretty good crop of lower level pitchers recently with a lot of arm issues. Some got playing time in the MLB last year. Patience.....
  11. I'm starting a new job at Walmart this morning. Start time is 6am cst. Currently: -25 degree windchill. In Minnesota, you always need to know the windchill. It let's Minnesotan's know when to say "Ufda".
  12. Missed this one: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/minor-mlb-transactions-121116.html Catcher Dan Rohlfing is back with the Twins.
  13. I never really had any expectations of the Winter Meetings. Seems like the 1st thing we heard was Falvey and Levine were just now meeting some of their team members for the first time. I followed DaveW's Forum and all I could think of is: a Dozier trade isn't going to be made right now. The timing is off. If / when a Dozier trade is made, I'd like to see a return of pitchers only, spread across MiLB levels. Pitchers are pretty much being priced out of MN market. I think Falvey will be spending more time looking at player development than anything else. There seems to be a disconnect between MiLB instruction and MLB needs. In the MLB, the Twins had to rework the mechanics of Berrios, Duffey and Buxton. Not really a good sign.
  14. Buxton and bunting: I don't believe it was done specifically to turning Buxton into another Carew, I think it was more of an "eye / hand coordination" thing. I can't say that it lead to all his HR's at the end of the season. One thing that was infinitely clear: Buxton was never asked to bunt before: didn't know how to hold the bat, was hacking at the ball, and a few more etc's. Sano: I never expected him to be a good defensive player at 3rd or anywhere. Excellent defensive DH If there work with him this offseason on getting a little better in the field, Great! But offense will always be his calling card and MLB scouting reports and pitchers caught up to him last year. If I was on the coaching staff, I'd probably concentrate more on the continuation of his plate adjustments.

    My Rule 5 Pick

Just turned 21. Why not? I think the obvious problem is he's overthrowing. Just watched a video of him pitching. In a word: Delivery all over the place. This is always the thing I'm concerned about when people rave about 100mph fastballs. Preach control, FIRST!
  16. Well, if the Twins rebuild was further along and they had an open spot in the rotation, personally, I might be interested. We've still got a few veteran starters that we need to move. Somehow. Any way possible. On the surface, Pomeranz over Bucholz, for being younger than Bucholz and his continuing ability to remain left-handed.
  17. Dozier trade: This could very well happen after the Winter Meetings. If the number of teams involved in talks with the Twins is remotely true [Yankees say they were never in] that will a while for Falvey to get what he wants. On Jose Bautista: what are the odds of Bautista signing with a bottom 10 team? Well, I've found money to be a pretty good influencer. The biggest thing to me is that he could be a heck of an influence on the younger Twins hitters. Now then, exactly how much looser are those Pohlad purse strings these days??
  18. In the end, I believe the 100 mph fastball fad will only cause more shoulder injuries than anything else. Surely, there are freaks of nature like Nolan Ryan. It just seems like the Twins have had a fair share of ACL injuries in the MiLB.
