  1. Not a fan of this. Wanted to see Hu in a Twins uniform circa late 2016 and beyond.
  2. Instead of trades, why not try to see if guys like Jose Berrios, Brandon Peterson, Tyler Duffey, AJ Achter, et al could do a Brandon Finnegan type role in the 8th for the Twins? Too bad the Twins didn't select Aaron Nola last year. And ironically, this is about the time I would have guessed (expected?) Nick Burdi to be ready.
  3. With a lot of guys who are 'capable' and that have position flexibility we could see more platoon like situations to play to players strengths. I think of 1991 where Scott Leius & Mike Pagliarulo (two very tough names to spell!) platooned at 3B and Randy Bush would get nearly all (or all) of his ABs vs RHP. I'm still holding out hope Mauer does a Pujols like transformation and gets 100% over his injuries type of deal. Might be a pipe dream, but it's still there.
  4. Anyone who lands that Buxton footage (likely on Lookouts site) or the other affiliate. Would appreciate the share.
  5. Buxton...after his little 'hot streak' (or hot week)...is 1 for his last 21 ABs, 3 K, 0 BB. Avg dropped from .270 to .235. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=t498&player_id=621439#/gamelogs/R/hitting/2015/MINORS
  6. As a LH reliever I'm guessing? McCullers will be the 9th 1st RD pick to make it to the pros from the 2012 Draft Class...and 24th overall. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?year_ID=2012&draft_round=1&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round
  7. Just saying for Twins team value. Do you think Santana can beat out Polanco in 2016?
  8. I'm for the bring Hicks up anytime soon sort of thing. When you're seeing the ball well - get after it. I think Hicks offers more than Schafer or Robinson in terms of CF Defense and OBP. And on occasion, a better element of power. The other scenario, for me, as linking other concurrent discussions is NOT Buxton anytime soon. But rather another guy already on the 40-man roster. Jorge Polanco. That is, he would come up and then they'd move Santana to CF - which would also be an improvement over the Schafer/Robinson scenario.
  9. For Buxton to be at all in consideration before Sept 1. 1) Twins must keep winning and be in contention 2) He has to hit at least .320/.400/.5XX at AA/AAA 3) Schafer, Hicks, Robinson, Rosario, et al aren't that answer in CF He's not on the 40-man roster. Twins would have to trade a 40-man guy or put him on waivers. Buxton hit well for 2 weeks at AA ball. Not even close to enough.
  10. Definitely agree with previous posted on Lee. I'd think that Gonsalves (not bad last year at A-ball either) would be ready for A+ as well. Might even bypass Kohl Stewart's progress. Gonsalves is terrorizing A-ball hitters right now.
  11. I know this was said earlier...as I had researched it earlier as well...but 36 strikeouts?! Montgomery had 30 so far...but still. That's stupid. Then that Polanco has 0, albeit 0 walks too. Just crazy. Buxton 6 K's in 9 ABs with 1 BB. Ouch!
  12. Put me in the rooting for Hicks camp. If he can even 'kinda' get it together, e.g. .250+ AVG, he's a .380 OBP guy. Which is plays well IMO. He's got a good arm in the OF too and can cover some ground. Would be a good RF after Hunter retires and a decent CF until Buxton arrives.
  13. Miguel Sano....charging in and barehanded a play at 3B to get a VERY FAST David Lough of the Orioles... http://m.mlb.com/video/v42494983/balmin-sano-makes-a-fine-barehanded-play/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU
  14. NYTwinsFan hit it pretty nicely there. A big difference between a listed 5'11" 240 (Sandoval) and the likes of a a 6'4" 240 (Cabrera) and a 6'4" 262 (Sano) player.
  15. In this picture, Sano weighed in at 252 lbs for TwinsFest 2014 (circa Jan 21, 2014). He looks pretty good for 252. http://aarongleeman.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Sano-and-Buxton.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H8Roc5CLWBY/UubE5MqUuuI/AAAAAAAAHjI/BH4BkypHPKE/s1600/sano-twinsfest.jpg Definitely not "the Panda" sort of look. Also, he weighed in at 262 at Spring Training in 2014 and they still had him at 3B during position drills. Just saying...
  16. Pinto and Sano are the wild cards. If Pinto gets 400+ ABs that's 20-28 HR range. Otherwise, a #2 catcher with limited ABs, say 150, he gets maybe 6-10. Sano, I feel would put up better power numbers than Vargas. Vargas put up 9 in 215 ABs. I think Sano might get the same # of ABs this year. And I'd put him up for 12-16 in that same number of ABs. Suzuki 2014 - 3 2015 - 5 Mauer 2014 - 4 2015 - 12 Dozier 2014 - 23 2015 - 18 Plouffe 2014 - 14 2015 - 16 Santana 2014 - 7 2015 - 12 Arcia 2014 - 20 2015 - 28 Hicks 2014 - 1 2015 - 6 Hunter 2014 - 17 2015 - 15 Vargas 2014 - 9 2015 - 22 That's 124 with whatever the bench (5-15)...for 129-139 range, and then whatever becomes of the Pinto/Sano wildcard. Twins had 128 last year, AL average was 144.
  17. Nice article. Good breakdown on the advanced metrics. I'd like to see Hunter vs. 'an average RF' not the best RF advanced metrics has EVER seen. It's like comparing Oswaldo Arcia to Babe Ruth. "Yeah...Oswaldo just doesn't seem to be as good as Babe."
  18. Mauer is fine. He is who he is. Mauer doesn't ask us to act differently. As long as he's not committing felonies...all I care about is can he give us more .320+ seasons. I'm curious where Molitor will bat Mauer. Would love to see him hitting 1st. That, and MLB cracking down on this extra 24 sq inches of strike zone that's been added in the past 2 years. http://www.hardballtimes.com/the-strike-zone-expansion-is-out-of-control/
  19. Twins or Cubs. Have the best set of prospects coming up. Cubs have no pitching. Albeit, Buxton isn't exactly thriving in the AFL again. Rosario is doing awesome though!
  20. How often does an A/A+ ball coach get moved to the MLB manager slot? (Mientkiewicz) IF they offered Gardy a position within the organization.....and as Ryan said he was looking for someone who has the 'attributes' like Gardy and the history of how Twins have hired their managers, leads me to Steinbach or Molitor as the most likely candidates to end up as manager. Catchers account for more managers than any other position.
  21. My first thought..who all does this include? Molitor too? But then I found this, Molitor seems to be a solid possibility to replace Gardy. http://fansided.com/2014/09/29/minnesota-twins-rumors-paul-molitor-hired-manager/
