  1. Right - it looked like Sano purposely got in a rundown between third and home so that Kepler could safely advance to second in his own rundown between first and second (and then Kepler almost gets thrown out between second and third, lol)
  2. Yeah, two base runners making mistakes, glad only one of them was tagged out.
  3. There really is something to be said for level swings, backspin, and balls that travel farther. That ball hardly got above the level of the right field fence but might have carried out to Hennepin Avenue.
  4. Speaking for myself, I ran up those vote totals for Sanó in the NY/Boston area.
  5. It's nice to finally cheer for a team that's good but slumping, instead of a not-so-good team that has the occasional hot streak.
  6. There is a map floating around. Sano was the solid vote getter for the majority of the nation, except for Ohio. And I suspect it was all very last-minute voting. Like it or not, fans across the country voted for Sano. In any case..........
  7. Bummer. They are slumping right now. Get back up and try again tomorrow.
  8. I don't know who the trade partners would be, but Buxton, Rosario, Kepler, Granite can all play center. Not to mention Royce Lewis. There would be another position of true depth to deal from.
  9. Right. It's helpful to put real names to hypothetical trade scenarios. Maybe Falvey has some names from other organizations up his sleeve, but in general, don't expect a team trading for major league pitching to send back major league pitching in return.
  10. Not only that, but Gibson is an excellent fielder. No reason to rush Mauer and send Dozier to cover first when Gibson can already cover that part of the infield.
  11. Not sure I follow. Get in the tournament and see what happens. I have utmost confidence in Santana and Berrios this year, and that someone in the lineup can come up with a timely hit. Next year might be different. If the Twins trade Santana, where will the pitching come from in 2018?
  12. One more reliable starting pitcher would do wonders for this team. I would trade for one. Based on Levine's comments, however, it appears the Twins are hoping that someone emerges from the Mejia, Gibson, or Santiago group. The fans are also held hostage hoping that one of those guys works.
  13. It's a realistic conclusion, but if they trade Santana this year, where will the pitching come from next year? It's imperative to capitalize on Santana and Berrios both pitching like aces this season. If the Twins can get halfway reliable starting pitching from the 3-5 guys they can stay in it until the final week, and also arrange the rotation so that Berrios or Santana can be in line for a potential WC game start.
  14. Every team is a contender except the Twins, who are always pretenders. It's an inferiority thing with Minnesota sports fans. More seriously, the Twins had a surprising, sustained run of success in the previous decade, which is setting up (IMO) unreasonable expectations that such a run of success can easily be matched again. Nothing is ever guaranteed, however. The irony is that those dominant regular season Twins teams of the 2000s failed spectacularly when they played the post-season games.
  15. I can't argue with your thinking, but maybe it's a little too "big picture" for the situation at hand. In the link you referenced earlier, Breslow acknowledges that results matter. My interpretation: Breslow might be a thoughtful and smart pitcher, or Belisle might keep himself in fantastic shape, but the reality is that an aversion to those players will develop if they are not helping the team win or cannot do something exceptional from time to time. The intangibles they provide for the team will be ignored.
  16. Good catch on the Breslow platoon split this season. However, he has no good platoon splits in any recent seasons prior to his signing this winter. Molitor rightly trusts Rogers and Boshers more. So, we seem to disagree on the value of Breslow's intangible strengths.
  17. Given the waiver wire carousel, it's quite stunning how Breslow and Belisle have survived this long when they provide essentially nothing better than anyone else who has come and gone. Any idea why that is?
  18. Oh well. We'll get 'em tomorrow night, with Tepesch or Wilk on the mound or whoever
  19. I don't know how he does it, but Kintzler does it. He somehow gets the job done.
