  1. Now that the draft is wrapping up, can Falvey and Levine check back in on the state of our current pitching staff?
  2. Yeah I have some grumpy old man in me. These spoiled kids complaining about being drafted into MLB (first round, no less) don't get any sympathy from me. Glad the Twins don't have him.
  3. It will be very intriguing to break down those two later picks, especially if they are college pitchers.
  4. Good point. To follow that: In the very small sample of college starting pitchers drafted at the very top (top 3 or higher) in the past dozen years, I think it shows a slightly more favorable trend for those who sign late and rest their arms for the rest of the year. Signed and rested their arms for year: Price, Cole, Verlander, Hultzen, Humber Directly to minor leagues to pitch: Appel, Reynolds, Gray, Bauer, Rodon. Other cases: Hochevar opted not to sign and played indy ball. Strasburg signed at the signing deadline, then rested his arm, then pitched in the Arizona league that fall. Although I don't know if either Wright or McKay rise to a true 1-1 as a few of those did.
  5. Danny Hultzen was a two-way player, who was drafted at 1-2 by Seattle in 2011. SSS alert
  6. I'm really nervous about two-way players, but that's just my two cents without any supporting evidence. How often do teams let two-way players both continue to pitch and then also play on the field? Never? To me that means you no longer have the kid you drafted.
  7. Yes, I would consider extending him year to year on a hometown deal if he is willing.
  8. In a bizarro way, this might be a good thing. If Pressly is used lightly in Rochester he will have the fresh arm when the Twins need to call on him.
  9. I am trying to imagine how that "give up on winning" locker room speech would go. Or the "Erv, you're traded -- no not yet, but keep your bags packed. Oh and good game last night." I don't imagine the players would appreciate either message.
  10. I read somewhere on here that Polanco is on leave, so does the new guy take Polanco's place and then reassess when Polanco returns?
  11. Agree, you can do all your regular evening stuff, and still have a ballgame going at the end of the night
