  1. The pitching in the AFL is definitely a step back from Double-A so it's hard to know what to make of his production on offense. How he does on defense should give the most information about where he projects in the future. I do not think his trade value has peaked. With Buxton certain to spend time on the injured list the Twins should keep him. No to trading Austin Martin.
  2. So your argument is Twins fans are too stupid so they shouldn't ever pursue top talent.
  3. Correa is pretty young. I don't have trouble locking him up until age 35. Almost every free agent is "overpaid" at the end, but they're usually underpaid at the beginning of the contract. If it helps you can pretend he made the money from his last season under contract in 2023 but it was deferred until 2030.
  4. They really should give pitchers the $/WAR bonus they get as free agents. However, teams DO pay players that kind of money for that production. Evan Longoria just made $19.6M this season and wasn't as good as Urshela.
  5. None, because an expansion team just has to exist to sell tickets for the first 3 seasons. They don't need to win. The numbers aren't pulled out of thin air, they're the average $/win value for free agents.
  6. That sounds about right. If an expansion team was just starting out and wanted to build an 80 win team out of just free agents it would probably cost them around $250M.
  7. That's fine. Give Miranda a vote for Twins ROY. If your team MVP is only a league average hitter then you have a very bad baseball team. Jose Miranda had a really hot July that is distorting what people think he did this year. He was an average big leaguer - which is good for a rookie - but he wasn't a star. He wasn't even a starter; he backed up Arraez at 1B and Urshela at 3B and rotated through DH. Correa had a cold July but was better than Miranda every other month of the season. It makes me think that the people commenting here that Miranda should be the MVP instead of Correa only started paying attention in July and tuned out in August when Vikings training camp started.
  8. Their fans should be pissed. Cubs have deep pockets. Of course, they're Cubs fans so they don't mind losing as long as the keg still has beer in it.
  9. Lewis starts the season on the 60 day Injured List - not on the roster.
  10. Urshela ended the season at 121 and played a lot better defense.
  11. That infield defense will be terrible, maybe the worst in baseball
  12. Lots of love for Jose Miranda. I guess I'll chalk that up to people paying attention in July but not in August or September when his bat went ice cold. His defense at 3B was pretty bad as well. Urshela contributed more to the team than Miranda. Nick Gordon was arguably more valuable to the Twins than Miranda.
  13. Correa was a better hitter than Arraez (RBat 27 to 23) and he plays a much more difficult defensive position. Correa was clearly the MVP this season.
  14. Urshela is a free agent after next season and Miranda's glove makes clanking noises. Julien is a 2B or LF.
  15. Signed Correa to a 7 year $230M deal. Signed Omar Narvaez to catch. Traded Kepler to the Rays for Margot. Moved Duran into the starting rotation and Maeda into the bullpen. Spent $10M on bullpen free agents. C: Ryan Jeffers ($0.70M) 1B: Luis Arraez ($4.50M) 2B: Jorge Polanco ($7.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($9.00M) SS: Carlos Correa ($33.00M) LF: Trevor Larnach ($0.70M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Manuel Margot ($7M) DH: Jose Miranda ($0.70M) 4th OF: Gilberto Celestino ($0.70M) Utility: Nick Gordon ($0.70M) Utility: Alex Kirilloff ($0.70M) Backup C: Omar Narvaez ($4.00M) SP1: Sonny Gray ($12.00M) SP2: Tyler Mahle ($8.00M) SP3: Jhoan Duran ($0.7M) SP4: Joe Ryan ($0.70M) SP5: Bailey Ober ($0.70M) RP: Kenta Maeda ($3M) RP: Jorge Lopez ($3.00M) RP: Griffin Jax ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Alcala ($1.00M) RP: Caleb Thielbar ($2.00M) RP: Josh Winder ($0.7M) RP: Michael Fulmer ($4M) RP: Brad Hand ($6M) Payroll is 9.50% under budget
  16. Found a signed card online. That doesn't match. The first letter looks like a "T". Could be a minor leaguer from spring training.
  17. Not true about the shift being gone. The SS can slide all the way to 2B, they just can't cross over the center line. 2B can play all the way to the edge of the OF grass. Teams will still be shifting and 3B will need to have range to cover the left side. 2B has to turn the pivot but their throws are easy. They can play a lot deeper than 3B which gives them more time to react.
  18. 3B is a more difficult defensive position than 2B, especially with all the shifting.
  19. I like a good challenge trade so I thought I would float this one - Max Kepler to the Rays for Manuel Margot. The Rays want to add more LH bats, the Twins need to subtract one. Both players are good defenders in the outfield and can cover CF if needed. Margot has a contract for $7M 2023, $10M 2024 and a $12M option for 2025 that is more likely to be bought out for $2M. Kepler's contract is $8.5M for 2023 with a 2024 option for $10M.
  20. I think Royce Lewis could be an All-Star caliber player at 3B. They could trade Urshela to make room when Lewis returns.
  21. If they put a guy with rock hands at shortstop they will need even better pitching. The most optimistic projection for Lewis' return is in June. The season could be over by then.
  22. I lean toward letting him develop as a starter next season. If it doesn't work you can always move him back to the bullpen. If it does work you might have an ace pitcher, which is the most valuable thing in baseball. Imagine if they had decided to keep Johan Santana in the bullpen.
  23. Where's Paddack? Where are your last 3 relief pitchers on the roster?
