  1. Nobody needs to front load a deal. Always better economically to back load it. Money costs less tomorrow. MLB luxury tax will be higher later. If nothing else you can put the "front load" money in the bank and draw interest on it until you have to pay it later.
  2. Most teams want 5 outfielders on the roster. If you only have one a lot of balls fall in for hits.
  3. He's a free agent. If they don't sign Correa they should absolutely try to sign Contreras.
  4. The Twins should immediately offer to add 5 years, $150M to their current 2 year $70M deal for a 7 year $220M guarantee. That will likely get topped by someone offering 8 years $240M on the open market. It will be interesting to see if Boras wants to match the total value of Seager's contract and get Correa 9 years $290M or settle for the highest annual value for a shortstop and get 6 years $215M. Boras is always looking to set a new benchmark.
  5. I think the Cubs are likely to give Correa an offer. The Mariners might want to upgrade at SS. The Angels have deep pockets and need talent.
  6. Now that Seattle and Philly have made the playoffs every team has made it to the postseason in the last decade. The longest drought belongs to the Tigers and Angels at 8 seasons.
  7. What do they need to add to the roster this offseason? A shortstop, a catcher, a starting pitcher and a couple relievers.
  8. There is another category - will be placed on 60 day DL to start the season. That's Canterino, Paddack and Lewis for sure. That allows them to sign 3 players to minor league contracts with the understanding that they will get converted to major league deals after the start of spring training.
  9. If not healthy the rotation could be Gray, Ryan, Varland, SWR and Henriquez. Get another starting pitcher.
  10. Caleb Hamilton should be on your DFA list. Megill is cheap, throws hard and has options. They probably keep him.
  11. I like an infield of Urshela, Iglesias, Arraez and Miranda better. There are a lot of combinations that can work if they can find a SS. That has to be the top priority of the offseason.
  12. Good article on Doug Deeds regarding how he made his decision to quit chasing the MLB dream To dream the impossible dream - and then decide it's time to let it go | theScore.com
  13. Defensive value has been "shifting" from 2B to 3B. With the new anti-shift rules you will see range at 2B become more important and 3B less important. That would be good news for Jose Miranda. I don't have much confidence that Miranda will become a better defender. Players are mostly finished products at age 24 defensively. If they can't handle a position by age 25 they get moved to one that is more suited to their athletic ability.
  14. It is interesting to me how baseball does not seem to be as sticky as football when it comes to the postseason. So many baseball fans seem to abandon the sport during the playoffs if their favorite team doesn't make it. I don't think this is the same for football. People still watch the NFL playoffs even if they don't have a rooting interest. I'd rather watch any MLB playoff game than a single Vikings game.
  15. That's probably why he had to wait until Sunday. They're all out of spaces.
  16. Good thing they gave that person a few days notice. They might need to re-order some letters.
  17. The Cubs might be ready to spend some money. Seattle could use another infielder. It only takes one team.
  18. Hopefully they do more due diligence than the 10 minutes I spent avoiding work this afternoon.
  19. Killebrew was an established All Star at age 23. Schmidt had MVP votes at 24. Berkman won Rookie of the Year at age 24. Trout was the best player on the planet at age 20. None of them are good comps for Trevor Larnach or Matt Wallner.
  20. Stars for stars trades are pretty rare in baseball. It's usually expensive vets for prospects. They won't get Cease for Arraez but the Brewers have holes at 1B and 2B and could use a bat. Would they deal Freddy Peralta for Arraez?
  21. Friends reruns on the scoreboard at Target Field would be more popular than the Twins. The joke wouldn't work as well.
