  1. I don't trust any prospect who hasn't seen AA yet. That's a big jump and it exposes a lot of players flaws.
  2. I doubt they trade Gray in the offseason. They have a hard enough time acquiring pitching and he'll return just as much if they trade him at the deadline next summer.
  3. If the Twins had decided to stand pat at the deadline the collapse would have happened the same way. People would be upset they didn't even try in a season where they were in first place. I agree, teams need to take a risk. They won't all work out. They shouldn't all work out. If all your trades work out then you probably aren't making enough of them.
  4. The Mets just pulled Max Scherzer after 6 perfect innings and 65 pitches. This is not just a Twins philosophy.
  5. They're also going to sell some tickets to hometown fans who want to see Varland and Wallner play at Target Field.
  6. Not only that, he was a 5th year senior sign who was drafted in round 10 mainly because he would have a small bonus and the money could be assigned to other draft picks. He's hit the snot out of the ball at the professional level.
  7. I like this idea. He needs to be added to the 40 man roster. I would never worry about service time for pitchers. Use them when they're healthy.
  8. They do consistently underperform when it comes to infield defense. Correa won a Platinum glove and this season he was slightly above average.
  9. Gray just gave them $8M in surplus value this season. He's a good bet to repeat his performance next season or could return prospects in trade if they go that route instead. They definitely spent some prospect capital this season but Gray has at least contributed positively.
  10. They were in first place until the end of August. This team is a long ways away from being a World Series contender but they could win the AL Central with a little better health and a little development from the younger players. I'm not sure they should try to just win the AL Central. They feel like the 2020-21 Reds but I might just be saying that because they have most of the Reds starting pitchers.
  11. The only reason this team has a chance of contending is the Central division will probably be terrible again next season and they have the room in the budget to buy a contender if they are so inclined.
  12. Disagree. He's hitting .241 at Double-A. That isn't playable in the big leagues, his average will be below .200. He has already shown he doesn't play elite SS defense and that is what it takes to carry a bat that weak. He doesn't need 25 HR power but he does need to hit the ball hard enough to ISO above .100. He had an ISO of .200 at Vanderbilt.
  13. The MRI came back negative for structural damage. Tyler Mahle on injured list with shoulder strain (mlb.com)
  14. It's a better strategy in the bottom of the inning knowing the other team didn't score than it is in the top of the inning when a 2 run HR gives you a bigger cushion.
  15. We're not certain any pitcher will be healthy next year but Mahle shouldn't have a career ending injury.
  16. I was referring more to the people claiming the Twins had "given up" after they lost the last couple games. That must be why Joe Ryan gave up hits in this game, he's quit on his team. If he was really trying he would have thrown 7 more hitless innings. According to most posters here you can tell pretty easily when the Twins have given up. When they lose it was because they weren't trying (mostly due to Rocco's uninspiring leadership). When they win it was because they had passion for the game that day (despite Rocco's uninspiring leadership, of course). The Twins aren't going to win the division this season but it isn't for lack of trying.
  17. Ryan gave up 3 hits today after the no-hit bid last time. You can tell they're just phoning it in now. No passion for the game.
  18. Yes to adding Woods-Richardson since he has to be added to the roster but no to promoting Balazovic and Henriquez. They're overmatched by AAA, What would be the point of seeing them fail in the big leagues? No scholarships. There are plenty of other young players on the roster who deserve playing time. Does promoting Julien mess with the plan to send him to the AZ Fall League?
  19. That's the right move. Jeffers and Larnach replace Leon and Billy Hamilton. The rotation has Gray, Ryan, Ober, Winder and Varland but before the season is over they should cut Bundy and let Woods-Richardson debut. Bundy has earned his paycheck but there is really no point keeping him around any longer. Edouard Julien should also get to debut after Wichita is done with the playoffs.
  20. Time to cut the veterans who won't be here next year (looking at you, Billy Hamilton) and play the rookies (even if they do go 1 for 9).
