  1. This was a bad player to sign. Just getting by most of his career and getting old. Hopefully the leash is not to long.
  2. The Royals were an aberration. Asking if you need an ace is pretty much the same as asking if you need good pitching. Sure the Royals won with only Cueto, but they also had elite relievers and defense. Most years that would still not be enough. Good article though.
  3. Sounds like a slam dunk. The point of revenue sharing isn't to let the Rays and Marlins tank their seasons and still make tons of money.
  4. Good to know Dozier's not an idiot. Of course he should hit free agency. This is his one shot for a huge contract.
  5. Pretty damn solid roster. The lineup is good and even has a bench bat available. A little weak on infield defense, but the outfield defense will be great. The pitching even looks fairly reliable. Still missing an ace and a shut down reliever, but what are you going to do? Those guys don't grow on trees. Maybe Berrios and Tyler Jay can fill those roles soon. Certainly there are other players that could step up as well. Should be a fun season.
  6. One thing I notice about this top ten is that 2-4 of these guys best position will be 2nd base. Pretty good reason not to resign Dozier. I do like him, but it's just not an need for the Twins.
  7. At least the Twins are in it. It's better than we usually get. I've honestly been pretty happy with the new management. They seem to have similar beliefs to me. We need a top of the rotation pitcher, but if you have to overpay it's just not worth it. Even if you pay market value it may not end up being worth it. You have to mitigate risk.
  8. I love it. Seems a lot safer to have him for 2 years vs 6 years. Doubt his agent would like it much though.
  9. I think you're right. Just happened to watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAAJYpg9xWE shortly before reading this article. It may have affected my judgment.
  10. I doubt there will be much fallout to the Sano situation due to his race and nationality. The subtle racism of low expectations. I do feel bad for posting this, but I'm pretty sure it is how things will work out.
  11. Dozier has been great for the Twins and he will certainly help next year, but there's really no reason to give him more than the QO. Middle infield is the strength of the farm system, so it just doesn't make sense to spend free agent dollars there. You sign veterans to fix the weaknesses of your team. For the Twins that is obviously pitching. If guys like Meyer, Stewart, Jay, Burdi, Chargois, Bard, Melatokis, etc. had worked out then things would be different. Hate to see him leave, but we do get one more year and I will still be a Dozier fan when he's on another team with a big contract.
  12. I like it. A high upside arm with a relatively low commitment. Short contracts are generally good for the team. How much is Hughes getting paid next year?
  13. At this point Dozier has more value to the Twin's than anyone else. If we don't need him in 2019 then we can just take the comp pick. So, I agree with you. I'm just not going out of my way to trade Dozier. If someone wants to make an offer we can't refuse, then fine. Go for it.
  14. Trading the international signing money is absolutely the right move since it is at a premium right now (to the west coast teams). I do feel that had they waited longer and traded all of it to one team the return would of been much better. I understand that it cost them nothing, but it really doesn't matter where your assets come from. At least the new front office seems to make moves that I can understand. That is an improvement. We will know a lot more once we see the prospects they acquired play next year.
  15. There was I time that I thought they were the same guy and that Liam just turned things around after leaving the Twin's. Led to a couple of confusing conversations with my friends that are cubs fans.
  16. Ehh. I can't blame him. There is no way he has even heard of Minnesota until recently. He's already losing a lot of money by coming to MLB now and his lack of greed allows him to go where he wants. If the Twins had been in contact with him in the past like some of the other clubs then maybe they'd of had a chance. As some of the posters have mentioned we are still in a good position with the international signing money we have available. Hopefully the Twin's make the best of it.
  17. I felt like Stewart had to have a big year in 2016 to regain his prospect status. It's been 2 years and he has slightly improved. He's a bust and has been for a while. If he wasn't a top pick he wouldn't of even been hardly mentioned by any of us. Not that I don't wish him well and all, but I can't really see any reason to add him to the 40 man roster at this time. Seems like a good decision by the front office. What's the saying in poker? Don't throw good money after bad money.
  18. "I’ll be optimistic and predict a very moderate increase of $110-$115M next year." Sounds good to me. We could get a whole new pitching staff for that.
  19. Damn. So much for the hard throwing relievers. You'd think at least one would work out. Pretty disappointing. I guess there's still Chargois.
  20. I think you forgot the Astro's had 9,8 and the Indians had AA.
  21. I pretty much agree with you, but I have a couple of nits to pick. There's no reason to think Falvine thought Dozier was going to regress that much. I heard many times that the other prospect they wanted was Alverez (16 million dollar signing bonus guy). They (correctly) wanted significant prospects with JDL. The other one is offering Dozier a long term contract. To me it pretty much depends on how Polanco does this year. Polanco and Dozier were an adequate middle infield together this year. That is likely the best it's going to get. Dozier will regress and Polanco would be much better at second. We have Gordon, Lewis, and Javier coming up and hopefully one of them can be a plus shortstop. Others will be moved to 3rd, 2nd or outfield. There's really no room for Dozier if 2 or 3 of the four guys work out. Unless you want to DH him, but the Twin's need money for pitching. The QO is just the best option by far. Either you get a pretty good prospect or Dozier for another year while you are waiting for you players to develop.
  22. To be fair there was some other good players at the top of those drafts. We also could of taken the busts of course. My point was that the Twins were signing players like Ricky Nolasco to try to win a few extra games which really just put them into the second tier of prospects. The Astros and Cubs did not do that and were at the top of their drafts. Either way I agree with you that it is good we have knew management on board since Ryan and company really didn't get what they should of out of all those terrible seasons. I really can't speculate on the development side of things since it's really hard to say what prospects would of done in other systems.
  23. They did screw up some top picks for sure, but they also got the huge draft pools to play with in the first place. Correa, Bregman, and McCullers are a product of that.We really can't go back in time, but just think if we were drafting a little higher and had Jon Gray, Carlos Rodon and Alex Bregman instead of Kohl Stewart, Nick Gordon, and Tyler Jay. Not to mention picking up better players later in the draft due to the bonus pool. It is a pretty good argument for tanking although many find it unseemly. Including me, but it still should of been done. I am glad we won't be in that position for a while.
  24. We can't forget how hard the Astro's tanked to get the players they have now. The Twins did have the first pick last year, but they were usually picking around fifth. Big difference in the players you get. I do realize Buxton was a top pick as well.
