  1. Sounds like what the Twin's said when they let go of David Ortiz. Not that Cron is the same player, but the reasons are the same.
  2. There is no downside to this. Good move. I can't believe the Rays are this cheap. They should be kicked out of the league.
  3. My thoughts as well. Not that I want the Twin's to do that. We all remember the Carl Pohlad days.
  4. I can't see why we would sign a free agent starting pitcher this year. We have a lot of options for next year and we will have more information on 2020 in 2020. Certainly there's an issue with quantity over quality, but that is the operating philosophy of our front office. Which really isn't a bad thing. We made big investments in Alex Meyer, Kohl Stewart, and Tyler Jay and they didn't really work out. Gibson was a pretty high pick and it looks like we will get a decent return on it. Berrios looks like he will work out, but he only cost a supplemental pick.
  5. Glad I don't have to make these decisions. I'd say that a of the Twin's chances to be a contender depended on Sano and Buxton being allstars or close to it. That hasn't happened, but it still seems too early to start rebuilding again. I'd expect a similar off season to last year, since we don't really know where we're at with this team.
  6. I don't disagree with anything you are saying at all. What really gets me about Gordon is that outside of 40 game of AA this year he's never really just crushed a level in the minor leagues. That is something you see out of almost all good mlb players. I'm sure their are exceptions, but I can't think of one. If I was a betting man (actually I am lol) I'd say your right about him being a utility player. Maybe something similar to Eduardo Escobar, which isn't bad. Not exactly what your looking for at pick number 5 though.
  7. Just to go on a complete side tangent,(sorry for breaking forum rules) this is my argument of why the NL needs a DH. Think of how much it sucks for the number 8 hitter. You're already the worst hitter on your team and you're being protected by the pitcher. Otherwise, seeing Joe's last games is a great reason to watch the end of what has been a terrible season.
  8. What is Stewarts upside? Nick Blackburn comes to mind. Tyler Jay doesn't even have that. Yep, they are and have been busts for a while. I fear Gordon will join this list as well. Terry Ryan was not the GM you wanted for a rebuilding team. mlhouse's comment pretty much nailed it IMHO.
  9. Yeah.........I don't think Stewart is going to make it as a mlb pitcher. Doesn't hurt to give him his shot this year though.
  10. Good article. I am a big fan of both players, but you have to make smart decisions. Lost year for Buxton, but it's not the teams fault. It's hardly a Kris Bryant situation where management is just keeping a player in the minors to extend control. Joe was great in his prime, but that was quite a while ago. If he wants to come back on a 1 year contract that's fine. If not, then we just have to appreciate the time we had watching him play for the Twins.
  11. Compared to Terry Ryan they get a AAA+. I just can't disagree with much that they've done. They evaluate the team better and appear to be trying to build a team that can win a World Series. Ryan just seemed happy with attempting to be a middle of the road team, even when it was obvious a full rebuild was necessary or they were close to being a championship club. Not to mention he didn't do much with a lot of fairly high draft picks ( not as high as the cubs and astros who were actually trying to rebuild). I would like them to choose their own manager. It just doesn't seem like Molitor sees things the same way as the front office. Could be wrong about that though.
  12. These are my feelings as well. I wasn't really expecting a big season from Sano this year. Buxton on the other hand....Thought he'd be in the all star game easy and I would of been disappointed with a 3.5 WAR season. Obviously I'm really disappointed with what we got. Morrison, Santana, and Dozier aren't really part of the future, so I'm not that concerned about their regression. Little bit worried about Kepler, but I think he will turn it around.
  13. Ouch. How many years of 90+ losses have we endured. During that time I always looked to 2018 as the time the Twins would be a contender. We've just had so many busts though. It's hard to see the light at this point. We're the knew KC Royals. Hopefully we can put it together for a year and win a title like they did.
  14. The person I am most disappointed in is you Jamie Cameron. You should of ended with the fruit ninja joke. It's pure gold. As Jerry told George in Seinfeld, you need to use the old Vegas showmanship trick of leaving the room after a comedic high note. Second and Third place would go to Buxton and Sano. They are about at that 1000 at bat mark and should be hitting their prime. Instead we're seeing more injuries and regression. Very Excited about Rosario and Kepler. They just keep on getting better. It kind of seems like we're at a turning point. Either these young guys figure out how to be contending team, or we have too many busts and start over.
  15. I've never been a fan of putting a lot of stock into "character guys". In fact I wanted the Twins to draft Blake Rutherford and Hunter Greene instead of Kirilloff and Lewis. Things are working out well though, so it's all good.
  16. Agreed. Regardless of results this is a good time to get Gordon mlb at bats. He is likely our starting second basement next year. He's probably not going to be good on defense, but it's not like he will be replacing an all star. Not to mention this will not affect his service time in any way.
  17. Pfft. This is easy. Lynn goes to the dl and is replaced by Santana. May replaces Hughes who gets DFA'd. If you can find a way to fit Gonsalves in I'd be impressed.
  18. So.....What's John Ryan Murphy up to these days? I say we trade Kohl Stewart for him. Then he will of cost the Twin's 2 first round picks to be an occasional back up catcher.
  19. Pretty glad they only signed Lynn for 1 year. Have to give the front office a lot of credit for that. I'd say it's about time for him to do get a suspicious injury and then do rehab in the minors.
  20. Yay! I love seeing prospects work out. Have to mention his English. Great pronunciation. Needs a bit more flow and variety though. I'm sure he'll get by the first cy young award
  21. I never understood why Pressly's stuff never matched the results he got. Great article.
  22. I'm not sure why some posters think Polanco is asking for sympathy. He made a mistake and apologized for it. I don't think he owes the fans anything else. I wish him the best and hope this doesn't set him back too much.
