  1. Perfect situation for Berrios to acclimate to the majors and he's looking good. Great job by Kepler and the boys getting the big lead.
  2. Such an odd trade. This makes the Twins better this year and next year. Is that worth losing Meyer? It might be since he's been absolutely terrible the last 2 years. I don't think so though. There's still a chance he could be a shut down reliever. The Yankees are selling everything that isn't nailed down and they're .500 right now. Guess the Twin's think they can compete next year. I don't see it and adding a #4 starter isn't going to change anything. At least I don't have to see Nolasco pitch again and Meyer isn't a huge los
  3. Agreed. Sadly there is no fix for 2017. Santana likely will not be the same pitcher by 2018, so you might as well get what you can for him now. If Polanco looks like he can be a major league second baseman by next year I'd also trade Dozier in the off-season. The reason the rebuild has taken so long is that the Twin's never had a plan and tried too hard to put together a .500 ball club. Giving up on 2017 sucks, but it's time to start making good decisions.
  4. I like the creativity of the Nolasco trade. It's really the first plausible idea I've seen in a while. Trading Rosario seems like a bad idea to me. He's got great hands and bat speed, plus good defense. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet. Personally I think all moves should be made with the plan of making the playoffs in 2018. Santana will be more of a problem than Gibson by that point. That and Santana is having a better year, so he is just a better all around trade candidate. The rest of your GM plans look good to me.
  5. and that HBP was also ball four. I'm a little embarrassed for them. I'll take it though!
  6. Like any trade there is no guarantee that this works out. It was a move that had to be made though. Nunez has looked great this year, but his upside will always be limited by his defensive shortcomings. Mejia fits in great with the Twins timeline. Replacing the highly paid low end starters with cost controlled guys is the priority and will allow the Twins a lot more flexibility when they are contending. There's a few other guys I would move, but this is a great start.
  7. They should move on from mediocre veterans for all kinds of reasons, but: "The Twins aren’t inclined to deal right-hander Ervin Santana unless they’re “wowed” by an offer, tweets Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Despite Santana’s age (33) and their distance from contention, the last-place Twins regard him as a quality future piece. Santana, who’s on a $13.5MM yearly salary through 2018 and has a $14MM club option for 2019, has pitched respectably this season (105 1/ innings, 3.93 ERA, 6.41 K/9, 2.48 BB/9)." They are the Twins. Not a lot of common sense in that front office.
  8. Due to the timing of this I have to think Ryan was fired for his absolute inability to make deals. The Twins had major roster construction issues coming into the season and Ryan did nothing. The Twin's have been sellers for months, but Ryan hasn't moved one player. I think Ryan was always to worried about winning every trade value wise. In some situations close is good enough. I imagine Pohlad walked into Ryan's office and asked what the plan until trade deadline was. Ryan-Just waiting for the phone to ring. Pohlad- You know what Terry. We'll just let the secretary answer it.
  9. Last I heard some politician with ties to a MLB owner was bringing forth legislation to exempt minor league players from minimum wage requirements. Pretty disgusting. Sorry about the lack of details, but I don't feel like looking it up right now.
  10. Just for the record the like is because I appreciate your contribution to the Twins Daily community. Not because I'm happy Hughes will be having shoulder surgery.
  11. Fire Sale! All veterans must go! No reasonable offers refused. You want mediocre players? We got'em. Come down today to beat the rush.
  12. I would of game Chargois one more chance. When you throw that hard it's going to be more difficult to throw strikes. It looks like nerves got to him as well, so a second chance could of helped. At the same time though, he was a danger to opposing batters. You can't have a guy up in the majors with that little control for too long.
  13. The person who made this mock draft https://baseballdraftreport.com/tag/griffin-jax/ must be loving what the twins are doing.
  14. Gotta like the Rortvedt pick. Looks like a good player. Too bad we just missed out on Nolan Jones as I would like him a little more. Who knows if he will sign though and it wouldn't of filled as big of a need as Rortvedt.
  15. The White Sox have had the perfect draft for the Twin's needs. Maybe they plan on trading them to us next year
  16. Not a fan of the Twin's pick. I think Rutherford will be a better hitter. Sounds like they were locked in on Kiriloff since he's already been well coached. Very Twinsian pick. Hopefully it works out.
  17. All of those guys were top five picks. We're picking 15th, so it's not really comparable. Players bust all the time in MLB. Some players lose their careers because they eat too much. Should you pass on elite talents that like food?
  18. Off the field issues don't worry me too much in a teenager. At least not enough to pass on that kind of value. Plenty of time to grow up. Unless he's committing felonies of course. I do agree that it would likely bother the Twin's as they are pretty conservative. Gutsy Mock draft on your part. Picking all those guys to fall out of the first 20 picks. Remind me to come back and give you some credit after the draft if you're close.
  19. Nice article. Exciting to hear how Romero is doing. Hate to nit pick, but it did seem odd that you said Kepler has 5 plus tools and noted that he doesn't have a strong arm in the same article. Unless you are including plate discipline as a tool? Regardless I think he will be a good player for the Twins.
  20. I don't think this draft is considered weak in the middle. Your plan is still the right one though. Having the sixteenth pick with another high pick is a very good position to be in. If there's no one you think that is worth top four or five money you can likely pick up two top ten players by getting a discount on the first pick. If the kid signs you still got the player you wanted instead of the the player had to take. Win,win situation.
  21. There's opportunity here. I'd be all in on an high caliber catcher like J.J. Schwarz. Unfortunately we have the worst GM in baseball. He'll hang on to his crafty veterans and they'll be able pull out just enough wins to avoid getting an impact player. We'll get another guy like Stewart or Gordon. Not bad, but not a franchise changer either. There was a time where I didn't dislike Ryan. Unfortunately that was a lot of bad decisions ago.
  22. If the Twin's were to pass on Collins I'd be pissed. I'm not as worried about him sticking at catcher though. They probably will not get the chance to draft him anyways. Outside of that I'd take the pitcher with the highest ceiling. At fifteen they're not going to be a perfect prospect, but that's fine with me. Even if it's another reliever.
