  1. Plouffe's minor league OPS was .725 w/ 80 HRs in 839 games, Sano's is .927 w/ 95 HRs in 403 games. Because of Plouffe they can simmer Sano in the minors (unlike the present CF situation where I think Buxton should be fast tracked) but when it comes to long term decisions of Plouffe vs Sano, Sano is still the easy choice for me. But as others have stated, having too many good players is a nice problem to have.
  2. It's not time to take them seriously but it may be time to stop griping about how terrible they are and actually have some things to look forward to. Plenty of peaks and valleys yet to come, hopefully that 1st week was rock bottom though.
  3. Your ideology is probably more rational and I'd be down for a AAA stint before the show. Just that as highly as he's touted, he's much more of a can't miss than Hicks, Arcia, or anyone outside of Joe Mauer has ever been in the Twins system so that's why I'm surprised the majority of posters are a bit leery (if that's the right word) of his talents.
  4. Buxton is the top prospect in baseball and the twins are only 2.5 games out of first. Ya some of that is smoke and mirrors and he may not be the next Mike Trout but I'm surprised more people aren't in favor of pushing him through. No need to slow cook, look whose "blocking" him. EDIT: meant may NOT be the next Mike Trout
  5. Why not now? Dump Shafer, keep Robinson as a 4th OF until he falters or as I just posted in another thread, maybe try to deal Arcia (he gets hurt too much and has holes in his game, though I still like him) to make room for Hicks or Rosario.
  6. As the Wild crumble, the Twins are showing promise. Not like playoff contender promise but it looks like they may be finally crawling out of the gutter as their prospects are picking it up as well. Random thought...Arcia seems to have the unfortunate stigma of being injury prone. If I were to trade a young player in their system it'd be him if he could be packaged with a useless veteran and fetch something decent.
  7. They're beating the bad teams at least. That's a step in the right direction.
  8. Pinto has nothing to prove at AAA and I never liked that the Twins bought high on Suzuki. That made no sense to me, if Pinto is healthy he should be catching/DH in the big leagues.
  9. Could work out for the Twins to actually get something for him. Hope they're not considering another extension....
  10. Rosario is picking it up too, he and Pinto have every bit of potential that Vargas, Santana, & Arcia have so no harm in interchanging prospects between AAA and MLB. It's probably time they send down Vargas and/or Santana.
  11. No, that's a bad thing. He's the closest thing they have to a staff ace even though it's only been in theory up to this point.
  12. "Good pitching" could be a stretch. It's still one of the worst rotations is the MLB. If any veteran P's on the staff incite any trade interest from other clubs, which I find hard to believe at this point anyway, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat and readdress the issue from there
  13. I'm for Nolasco to the pen as an innings eater. Blowout situations only would serve the team best
  14. Plouffe is good, the only reasons to hesitate before extending would be Sano and when the Twins will actually be competitive. Doesn't pay to buy high if they stink while he's in his prime. If the wheels fall off and the "rebuild" continues to lag I like him as trade bait too.
  15. Agreed. Also agree with others about Hicks' questionable routes but his arm, glove, and range put him well above Shaeffer/Robinson defensively IMO.
  16. Hopefully the decision revolved around them understanding that they weren't going to compete this year and they needed to see what they have in Santana as a SS. If he ain't it, they have another good candidate in Polanco coming up. If Santana's bat heats up and he continues to struggle defensively, perhaps then they can move him back to OF and EE back to full time SS...?
  17. Is that really true? Kinda sounds made up. If Sano and Buxton were putting up numbers like a couple years ago I imagine their record would reflect that.
  18. Escobar earned the right to be starting SS last year but Santana had an even better year, plus he wasn't that great of a CF so not sure it'd be good to put him out there w/ Hunter and Arcia. Tough deal for Escobar but I think the Twins had to start this way.
  19. Swapping Hunter and Arcia might be ok. Hicks should probably be up although I'm convinced he's no longer vital to the team's future. He can hit LHP though, has a decent OBP, can play a good CF, and is probably better than Shaeffer/Robinson. No surprises here though, it's gonna be a long season no matter what they do about it.
  20. The zero BBs is the biggest reason he should be removed from leadoff but, as others have posted, who do you put there when no one else really deserves to bat there either? Don't send him down. Not any time soon anyway.
  21. If this comment was directed at mine, I'm not down on Escobar or Plouffe but that w/ the talent behind them in the minors I think they're expendable. My argument isn't that they will bring in a large haul either just that I'd rather have the young guys up taking their lumps to see what the Twins have in them, because until they have pitching, contending is not a real possibility regardless of who is in the lineup.
  22. It'd be a gamble based on my speculation (not fact) that Plouffe and EE played above their true selves last year, plus if EE is the 5 best SS based on last year's OPS he's not doing the Twins much good riding pine 5 days a week. IMO until the Twins have a formidable pitching staff I'd take youth and potential over past results all the time. You only have 25 roster spots and a loaded farm system so eventually those kind of moves will have to be made. Hicks, Plouffe, and Escobar are 3 guys I'd look to move in the short term for more prospects or pitching. Don't know if it's right for sure but that's how I'd roll.
  23. I'd say cut bait on Hicks, package him in a deal. All those you mention can be cut loose including Escobar and Plouffe if Sano is ready. Those caliber of players can be picked up in almost every offseason. If the Twins still aren't competitive next year they could look at dealing Dozier and if they are competing (doubtful) they can look at dealing Polanco. Way too many crumby veterans on the roster year after year. Let's see which young guys can play at the top level already and go from there.
  24. When you have the worst MLB squad and the best farm system in the game the time should be very soon. Hicks is a bust in my mind but he should still be on the MLB roster. He should be getting used to the pitchers he's going to face for however long his career lasts, not AAA pitchers that will bounce back and forth that he'll never get a good feel for anyway. BUT I hope Rosario gets first crack if they're only going to bring 1 up, then Hicks can replace Hunter or at least platoon with Arcia until after Torii Hunter bobble head day.
