  1. Extend Plouffe!? Maybe at bottom barrel rates but I would hope that is not in the cards. Give Sano some time, he's only 23. Not gonna look it up but think I remember Beltre being pretty bad a 3B early in his career. Not sure what's cooking w/ Polanco but would be all for a Dozier trade if he can bring in some P or C help or see what the kid can do at SS. Maybe Escobar has some trade value but think trading Dozier plays better to the path I see the Twins on...which is not being a contender next year and sniffing the playoffs 2018 at best.
  2. Trending upward is what we all hope is happening, but contending in 2017.... We're seeing lately how the lineup looks when they're clicking but that doesn't mean that's the new standard. How low the lows can be is still relevant, the pitching staff has a long way to go, especially minus Santana if that happens (although I'd still trade him), 2017 contention seems pretty fantastical....and keeping these vets around to chase a .500 record seems like a bad play too. Trade anything with value and regroup over the winter, that's my hope.
  3. Hoping all this competing in 2017 talk is just a ruse to try and improve offers and not look desperate. Hopefully Antony isn't looking for a king's ransom for these mediocre trade chips a la Terry Ryan. Cut bait, and move on.... On the flip side, I read that the Twins are seen as a backup plan for a lot of teams in case they don't end up getting the guys they really want so if the Twins will be involved in any deals (please, for the love of God, make some moves....) it might come down to the wire.
  4. I keep waiting for the clock to strike midnight on Kintzler but he continues to pitch great. Even though he fills a position of need I'd still trade him if there is interest before he turns into a pumpkin and figure things out in the off season.
  5. I see the same info as the posters exclaiming it's not an audition and there is no way Antony is a serious candidate. So you could reply your same snarky post to those as well. Comparing the last 30 years of action to the past week of lip service it is my opinion that Antony is the GM, at least for 2017. My comments of no GM wanting the position because they'd have to work for the Pohlads might be off base but if they're a qualified candidate their career is probably headed in a good direction already so they may not be as desperate as some might assume for any GM position. Of course I don't know, it's only speculation which is sorta what this site is meant for fans to enjoy doing.
  6. I don't see the conclusive evidence that most (seemingly) do that they are going outside the organization for the next GM. Plus, who would want the job if they're going to be handcuffed right off the bat with their manager selection (and likely financially, relatively speaking). Also, reports are that more calls have been coming in since Ryan's departure, could actually be a fortuitous scenario that I'm looking forward to watching play out. Maybe we could see some drama at the deadline for once....
  7. Hopefully it is only a GM search and think they've found their man. 66.67 winning percentage under Antony, hard to argue with those results. Clearly they've identified and addressed the problem. I'm getting my 2017 season tickets today!
  8. I'm not sure exactly how that vested option of his works, that's just what the report said....
  9. Here are a couple encouraging reports from mlbtraderumors this morning that could soon give us an indication about what Antony has up his sleeve... The Twins are receiving the most trade interest in shortstop Eduardo Nunez, catcher Kurt Suzuki, right-hander Brandon Kintzler and left-hander Fernando Abad, sources indicated to Rosenthal. Right-hander Ervin Santana has not drawn the same level of interest, likely due to the $28MM remaining on his contract beyond the 2016 campaign. Regarding Suzuki,....there have been no extension talks at all between the two sides this time around. That would seemingly make a trade more likely
  10. No viable candidate is going to want to work for Pohlad/St. Peter with the requirement to keep Molitor as the skipper etc. Antony is your GM for next year and beyond. I doubt many of us will be impressed.
  11. There is no argument for Berrios and Chargois to NOT be on the 25 man. I get that they struggled with their first taste but c'mon this club is 25 games below .500 with the worst pitching staff in baseball. Shouldn't be hard to get those kids some innings...
  12. That was a long post so I didn't read it all but didn't say his best 5 moves were top 5 picks just that it should be easy to find talented kids early in the draft. And who cares how good these kids perform in the minors if they can't play in the bigs? Because unless they can, they're nothing. Buxton, for one, is actually looking like a pretty bad pick. 300 at bats in the bigs and he's flirting w/ the Mendoza line. Saying May and Meyer were good trades is a stretch.
  13. It shouldn't be hard to acquire young talent when you have a top 5 pick every year and practically every attempt TR made to supplement that talent went bad. I think it's all PR about going outside the organization for the next GM and will be genuinely shocked if Antony isn't the GM in 2017.
  14. If Antony doesn't believe it'll be him what incentive is there for him to make any roster moves? I'll put $5 on it that Antony gets the job.
  15. Really? How many guys pushing 300lbs do you see lumbering around in the OF? The point is to keep his bat in the line up and live with whatever you get defensively. His health is in less jeopardy at 3B
  16. Not sure what to post now that my fire TR comments are no longer relevant..... ......hmmmm
  17. 4 90+ losing seasons haven't convinced TR they ought to be sellers in the past so doubt a 100 loss season will either. That wouldn't be fair to all the other guys on the roster trying to win, as I'm sure Terry would reason.....
  18. Other teams should be looking at him as a starter. He doesn't give away at bats, has some pop, steals bases at will, and is ok in the field. Used to not think the Twins would get much for him but he's been so consistent this year that perhaps they could...? He's been fun to watch, unfortunately he should probably be traded.
  19. My TR bashing probably gets old but chalk up another bad baseball decision for the old codger. Too bad the Pohlad's don't follow baseball so they were aware of some of these bad calls because until they do it's going to be more of the same I fear.....
  20. Even if Suzuki continues to rake he's got a watermelon arm and I think his calling of games might be a little over rated. If JRM is a defensive upgrade then that helps compensate for some of the offensive drop off at least. I don't feel contending next year is all that reasonable because the Twins finally had one good week of baseball. Not trading Suzuki would be a mistake. TR is all about winging it and hoping for the best, this is one instance where I'd advocate that strategy w/ the C position for next year. Fingers crossed somebody steps up.....
  21. If Berrios IS up by the end of July there is still something wrong with the front office.
  22. I'd rather see Dozier go than Nunez too but think they should deal Santana and hold on to Nolasco since he's non-tradeable. He might actually not be a bad #5 pitcher, certainly not worth his salary but there won't be many SP options to choose from in the off-season so he'll have to do.....
  23. I'm most excited to see how they trim the fat. TR disappoints me every year in that regard but I find this time of year most interesting none the less (seeing as they don't ever make the playoffs and all). Was slow to come around on the notion of trading Nunez but think I'm on board now. I'd be interested to see what Dozier could bring in too.
