  1. Looking at that video, Berrios reminds me of Kitty Kaat the way he stands out there before going into his windup. He looks like a strong young man.
  2. Given the way this guy can pop the mitt, and given his performance vs. Baltimore helps keep this crazy dream of a season still alive, all I can say, to quote Blur, is "woo hu!"
  3. Wait what? O'Rourke and Duensing weren't good enough?! Hope the ptbnl is Nolasco....
  4. Duffey has carved 23 points off his ERA in his last 2 starts. Keep it going young man!
  5. Even though he is getting hit here in the 8th, wow, I like the "battle level" Duffey showed in this inning. He challenged them to the end. Sure, a double digit lead helps, but I saw his no hit start vs Cleveland: this kid competes!
  6. Gibson, if he has the ground ball machine working tonight, gives the Twins a good chance. The Pelfrey i 've seen recently looks like another candidate to beat NY.
  7. Who would be the better DH candidate going forward, Arcia or Vargas?
  8. Why not Duffey - looks ike the kind of guy who will stick in the majors in one way or another. Effective 4 pitch mix - watching the Twins get dominated lately, it's been strikes, changing speeds, locations. Iwakuma gave a master class on pitching last Sunday - I was there, and left impressed. (Pelf was pretty good too). If you can nullify the patient approach by throwing strikes, but mix it up with speed and location, you will have success.
  9. If the Twins keep Mays in the 7-8 inning pool, and add this guy, I like our chances of getting to Perkins a lot more than with Fien, Boyer, etc. Jepsen's last 2 seasons: LAD - 65 IP - 45H - 75K - 2.63 ERA TBR - 41 IP - 34 H - 34K - 2.81 ERA The Ks are down this season, but I like his IP to hits allowed ratio a lot. He isn't a rental either. Whether you consider it fair value depends on your confidence level of good but not dominant A ball pitchers making it to the bigs. He looks like an upgrade in a position of weakness to me. Probably not enough to stave off the Jays and Angels/Astros though.
  10. Great to see Hicks put it together. His confidence looks through the roof right now.
  11. Just the fact he is willing to look at pitches, and TRY to be selective is very encouraging, given his age and experience. For a guy just learning the major league game, I couldn't ask for a better approach.
  12. I am NOT in favor of going for it at the expense of potential plus major leaguers. The formerly top farm system in the game still needs to sort the wheat from the chaff. I don't want the Twins to trade a future Cy Young or HR champion for guys whose best years are gone. A tweak at catcher seems most appropriate, as it is also an organizational weakness. Trading the farm to go for it all at this point? Lunacy. Building a winning culture and mostly standing pat, letting the prospect situation sort itself out, that's what I advocate. They are already miles ahead of last season. Slow and steady wins the game.
  13. Seems like Cody would do well, to take what the Twins offer, especially as his performance dropped off this year. If not, well, I like the #74 next season. If I'm the Twins, I would give him a nice consolation prize, 150-200k, not a complete lowball offer, and used the savings on those later round kids. It's really all or nothing at this point.
  14. Key words? Kyle Gibson. This guy has figured out how to make hitters do what he wants them to do. Cespedes AB in the first today was a great example of not giving in, and he got the double play after an 8 or 9 pitch at bat. Gibson is a good one.
  15. The last thing the Twins should do is make another Capps for Ramos kind of deal. The Twins are sitting on a great farm system, but those top prospects need to graduate to the majors and get established. If and when that happens, and you still have a surplus of prospects, then you make trades. edit-I see Capps for Ramos has been beaten into the ground already. Not surprised.
  16. We know Dozier is an All-Star. Flamboyant on both sides of the ball.
  17. Well, Tony was 27 when he won that gold glove. Not saying OA is TO, but I am an optimist in people's ability to improve.
  18. Just read the Oliva bio by Henninger. I had no idea, but Tony was an awful outfielder initially - through A LOT of hard work, he made himself a gold glover by his 3rd season. He was probably more agile than Oswaldo, but Arcia is good enough of an athlete to get at least average.
  19. It will be a test of Oswaldo's work ethic. I'm rooting for him.
  20. Liking these signs of life from Hicks. He's been pretty good all around this latest call up.
  21. How hard does Peterson throw? He sure has put up great numbers in his pro career: 123 IP, 75H, 178 K, 1.60 ERA
  22. Nice to see Eades and Slegers too - our high pick college starters who had rough starts are picking it up now. Again, when has the Twins organization ever had this much pitching throughout the system?
