  1. Walker led the Southern League in HRs last season, the FSL the year before that, and the Midwest League the year before that. He tied for the Appy league lead in 2012. His 21 homers now lead the IL. He's consistent, that's for sure.
  2. Here is one interesting tidbit I discovered 5 minutes ago. Nolasco was leading the Twins in innings pitched this season with 124, 4 more than innings eater Santana, as well as Santiago. Never would have guessed that. Still, hard to comprehend a good AL team wanting to add him, unless Allen is utterly useless. Good barometer on the "Twins way," with our 2 most underperforming pitchers going elsewhere.
  3. Suzuki is below average defensively to be sure, but here he is again being above average offensively. He sits right now at 251 plate appearances, about 200 away from him being vested. Ain't gonna happen. He's been a solid guy for this team, despite his shortcomings. With no heir apparent, why fret? You can't wish for him to be gone for something good, and be mad that he didn't fetch something good, if you don't think he's good. Other GMs probably are on the same page as you sir, which I mean as a compliment.
  4. Now we are into the realm of pure speculation. I doubt very much there were teams out there wanting to unload top 100 prospects on the Twins for what they were offering. It's been a theme in the past because it is founded on pure bunk.
  5. Wow, props to Antony: got some starting pitching in Santiago and Meija; unloaded Nolasco; got some nearly ready bullpen guys who throw hard. Very fine audition. I think he made the team better going forward, without giving up much really.
  6. When I first read this I misread 37th overall for 37th round. Much more excited about it now. Here's an article from a site called MassLive about Light: http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2016/06/pat_light_boston_red_sox_prosp.html Most Sox prospect rankings I looked at had him in the 14-16 range.
  7. Eduardo is having a nice day in SF, his first start(at short). Single and stolen base, and 2 run double. He was certainly our most competent hitter and base runner this season.
  8. Del Rosario's ERA has been trending in the right direction, from over 11 after 1 start, to over 6 through most of June, now down to 4.61 after this start. Also, of his 45 Ks this season, 24 have come in his last 3 starts. According to MiLB, he weighs 145 pounds?! 6 feet tall.
  9. Competent doesn't mean great - he has improved greatly over the years. He'll never be a gold glove candidate, but many gold glove winners started out as bad or worse the TP.
  10. Play them at the positions of need: Sano at 3rd, Polanco at short. How long did it take Plouffe to become a competent fielder? Over the course of a season we might have something.
  11. The Part of me that actually watches Twins games will miss Eduardo. Fun guy to watch. I'm glad he's going to a great team with a great ballpark in a great city. The part of me that visits Twins Daily is very happy with the trade though, and is hoping for more.
  12. Watching what the Twins have done in July vs. Boston, Cleveland, Texas, Detroit leads me to believe they have some game. They aren't gonna tank intentionally. Growing pains are the best way to go about this - give your youth a chance to play, let them learn at the major league level. They hopefully improve, and set the stage for future winning ways, but quite possibly deliver the coveted top 5 draft pick along the way. Win-win, with a lot of losses along the way edit: I will acknowledge tho, that the oposition, some of the best in the AL, probably isn't really taking the Twins seriously, if quotes in the media are to be believed.
  13. Kirilloff looks like a kid that will be on the fast track. Seeing that power is his calling card, love to see the high batting average on top of that.
  14. Right on Doc - I would like to see what Vargas could do given the chance. He has great power, and while he has some of that K problem, it's nowhere near as bad as some of our other power prospects, and he has shown the ability to take a walk as well. He has a pretty good approach, and the switch hitting is a nice add.
  15. Seems like batting second would make good use of his OBP, and perhaps advancing runners. Problem is, nobody really is hitting like a #3 right now except Nunez, and he's leading off.
  16. Hmm. Sounds more administrative than baseball related, like a directive from someone who is looking for system-wide accountability.
  17. He's also shrinking his pitch count. Last 2 starts, 7 and 9 innings pitched, 1 earned run, 3BB, 13K, less than 100 pitches each outing. Like that efficiency, and the K rate is still pretty dang good.
  18. Lamonte Wade is hitting .391 with a .966 OPS since his promotion to Fort Myers. Just 7 games, but he's done nothing to to disprove that he can flat out hit.
  19. He has been the best leadoff guy we've seen in a long while - hits stolen bases, the whole works.
  20. Last game he was 2 for 3 with no Ks and a walk. His outs haven't been putrid either. Progress.
  21. I thought the deadline for high schoolers used to be just before fall semester began.
  22. If I was about to graduate from college, and someone said, "oh, here's 30K and a job playing baseball," I wouldn't feel ill-used.
  23. Luckily, in baseball you can score gems outside the first few picks. None of Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, Mike Trout, Andrew McCutcheon, or Chris Sale were drafted higher than 7th overall, and the latter 4 were all 11th or later. Rarely is the best player for a draft class the top pick. He got the tools and projectability that give him a pretty lofty ceiling.
